Technically, “an unmarked site that once housed a septic tank.” “Once housed” implies that it had been removed, assuming the reporter got the information right. A lot of back yards “once housed” a septic tank. The leach fields can run for hundreds of feet - in more than one direction.
Unless the sisters removed the tank and immediately started filling the hole with babies, I’m not sure what mentioning it adds. If the babies had been in a septic tank, that would have been not only mentioned, but played on with great outrage.
Full disclosure: my house was built in 1926 and the city laid their sewer lines in 1924. My house never had a septic tank, so my place would be a more respectful place to bury dead babies, apparently.
