On July 20th, 1969 aliens landed on Luna. When they left several days later, there was not a soul left alive. But Mr. Gorsky was pleased.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work. Light volume today so I may be home before the heat index hits 103. Also, Gordie is on The List. He found my parent’s copy of the August 15, 1945 Milwaukee newspaper and shredded it.
I am willing to trade 2 semi decrepit mammals for an axolotl. Hijack away.
No sleep for the weary.
I need to rest. My garden is gonna kick my butt this week.
The heat has been oppressive. I wilt as soon as I go outdoors.
(To the gods of AC please keep us cool and keep the ice maker churning out those lovely cubes. And please keep the kids from fanning the door and losing that cool, yea verily!)
Y’all have a good week.
Stay safe and cool.
Morning! Up, breakfasted and partially sheveled. I don’t have to go outside and I’m not expecting to be seeing anyone today so no need for a lot of shevelin’ here.
Today I should hear back from last week’s interview, they had hunnerts of applications and shortlisted to six people so I did pretty well there. It’s a job that I am pretty sure I could do without much bother as it’s not dissimilar to several other jobs I’ve had in the past. However having mentioned to 'im indoors that I will be hearing back from them today, I’m not sensing much enthusiasm for the whole thing despite it being his idea to move back to Scotland.
From last week…moooom, sorry to hear about Miss Cleo, sounds like she had a good life and Daughter made the right decision for her. It’s never easy but once the real quality of life starts to deteriorate, you have to decide if it’s worth what you’re putting a pet through.
Nut - sorry about the axolotl…but congrats on the First! I hope there were some suitable celebrations!
Morning everyone. Even though retired, up early due to dogs and their “needs”. At least they woke me up instead of the alternative.
Apparently, my appliances we’re whispering to each other in the wee hours – something like: “We break tonight!” And they did. My lawnmower conked out Saturday, dishwasher on Sunday, and I noticed the broiler part of our old oven quit working too. So it’s Hi Ho, Off to Lowes I go. Or somewhere. I guess this week will be either repairing or installing new stove and dishwasher. Got the lawnmower Saturday afternoon and it’s assembled and making me feel guilty.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN. ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 95 and N.O.S. for the day. The heat index will make it seem like around a hunnert and for Amurrkin. Today is spiff da cave day. That will be the extent of activity. We may have some quality cee-mint pond time. Or not. Sup shall be steak, baked N.O.T., sallit, and cheesey garlic bread. We do this in honor of men’s steak night over to the church house which would be tonight if’n it was happenin’. We might crank that up again in September. We shall see.
I was just shy of fifteen years old when the moon thing happened. Quite an event. I mean, we sat in front of our teevee and watched folks walk on the moon!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Awoke from a terrible nightmare - I was with Roxy somewhere near a body of water, then all of a sudden, she was gone and I couldn’t find her - even jumping in the water to look! Horrible way to wake up! Oddly enough, when Daughter was a toddler and we lived on the boat, I never had similar dreams, tho she was always wearing her life jacket when we walked down the dock…
Since it was already light when I woke up, I decided to put on yesterday’s clothes and take my walk first. Even at 77° it was brutal out there, but I took a 40-minute loop, then peeled off the sweaty garments and hopped in a refreshing shower. I have since breakfasted, and FCD just left for his PT. Not sure what the day will hold, but it will be inside for sure.
To continue the comments about Hamilton from the last MMP, one of the things that most impressed me was how well Miranda composed in so many musical styles. It reminded me of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - so much variety packed into one show!
Morning evvybody! Up and Irking, but the call volume is surprisingly slow (SO glad tax season is FINALLY over!) so I am sneaking on here to Mump. Had some odd dreams last night most of which made me wish I had someone to cuddle. I mean, the rat and the cat just don’t do it for me all the time, and I miss having my PB to squish, yanno? Looking forward to dinner with the 'rents later this week, and I’ll probably make a cheesecake for this coming Shabbat… Yee. haw. Have a good moan/moon/mon day!
Morning all. not even 8:30am and it’s already 82F outside. Ali-bama summers are not that great, y’all…
This will be the July Laundry week, don’t know the exact day but I’ll run out of something soon. Will do a little shopping and pick up my Monday sammich at Jersey Mike’s this morning, then stay inside I think.
I was about 13 when Apollo 11 landed, I remember going outside and looking up at the Moon (in my memories it was full, but I doubt that) and thinking “men are up there.” Not the most profound thought, I grant you, but the best I had at the time…
Boo fae, best wishes on the interview.
pullin (y’all have an MMP name yet?), my appliances are all pretty new, so I am sure that they’ll all break down about the same time. It’s a conspiracy, I tell’ya!!!
FCM, you didn’t watch the original Frankenstein movie lately, did you?
Ok, need to make myself reasonably presentable here shortly and be about things. All y’all have a good Moanday.
Um. no…what prompted that question? Maybe I’m just slow this morning. But for the record, I don’t much like monster movies.
FCD should be home from PT soon. I need to tidy the kitchen. I may go outside long enough to hose down some potted plants, and I’d like to go get another cantaloupe from Zimmerman’s. But mostly, I don’t wanna do anything.
I turned fifteen a couple months before the Eagle landed. We didn’t have a telly at the time, and I didn’t over to a buddy’s house until an hour or two after the landing.
swampy: What is NOS? Somebody really needs to expand the MMP FAQ a bit…
74 (23 for them that prefer it that way), 94% hunidity, a predicted high of 85, and a heat advisory until 2000. Blecch. Need to do a lot more weedwhacking, but not today – don’t plan to go outside at all except to check on the bunnies and go to rehab.
NO will mostly always mean “Not Our” and chances are some of those who are referenced may no longer be here, but old habits die hard. But I agree, the FAQ should probably be revisited.
Executive decision made - salisbury steak for supper. SIL may or may not be here, depending on his second job, so this will be easy to do with or without him. Plus I’d forgotten about the 2# of ground beef that I’d put in the fridge to thaw. It’s now mixed, formed, and sitting in the fridge till it’s time to cook.
Dishes are in the dishwasher and I’m about to head to Food Lion and Zimmerman’s. Then lunch. Off I go!!
It’s currently just about 83 F here, and my husband’s taking a nap, which is definitely the thing to do on a warm summer afternoon.
Went for a walk and had pulled pork at a restaurant. Not bad for central Switzerland, but probably wouldn’t pass muster in most of the U.S.
Bought a tomato plant that was supposed to have cherry tomatoes. The tomatoes are already bigger than than and have a shape more like a beefsteak. Nothing’s ripe yet, so I’m not sure how big they are going to get. Hope we get some good tomatoes off of it, even if they aren’t cherry.
I groceried and stopped for a couple of Amish cantaloupes and 'maters. FCD and I had salads for lunch, and Roxy joined us with her PB&J 'mich and some green beans. Now all of the dishes have been thru a rinse cycle, I took a sack of garbage out to the garage, and I think I can chill till it’s time to start supper.
And it’s stoopit hot and humid here - typical Merrylande in the summer.
I was in Rockford Illinois (technically Loves Park) for my sister’s wedding shower the night of the moon landing. We watched it on teevee in the dark at her future in-laws. I wore a blue paisley dress.
It was hot and hoomid on Saturday. 90 degrees with 75% humidity. Like walking in a wet hot washcloth.
It was 81 degrees outside when I left for the park this morning.
Which btw, I can tell the days are already getting shorter. It’s still dark at 5:30.
I stayed quite a while, was there from about 5:45 until 9:15.
It didn’t feel so bad sitting in the shade of the pavillion, walking across the park in the sun was not so nice.
The dogs are worn out though, so that is the important part.
My son’s blueberry muffin, cinnamon muffin concoction wasn’t all that good. It wasn’t horrible, just that blueberries overpower everything else and I’m not that fond of them.
Not going back outside today if I can help it. I’ll skip the afternoon trip to the park. When it’s that hot, all the dogs do is lay around anyway.
I have enough to do around here anyway.
I need to call irk to get the pay situation straightened out. I am going to call the MVA and see if my appointment to renew my license can be changed into an appointment to get my son an ID - or even better, his learner’s permit. I have a feeling they are going to tell me no, that I have to set up an appointment for him. I already got an email from them telling me that I don’t need to renew my license, which I think means we want you to cancel your appointment so something more critical can be handled. I don’t care, it’s not like I want to go there anyway.
I already ordered a new phone case from da jungle, so that chore is done.
