M-O-O-N that spells MMP

Ah. Well. You see, Swampy is…gray. Yeah, he’s an old guy.

I don’t normally wander into the MMP thread, but the Tom Cullen callout in the title did make me laugh. Well done.

I know about Swampy and Ol’ You Know Who.

I’d just be tickled every shade of pink to be in a house where the cooking and cleaning are NOT by me!

~VOW

A DIY Salisbury steak recipe would be appreciated, since DH likes the stuff.

Definitely had our share of brain donors today, both “front line” co-irkers and callers. Ugh. VERY tired today.

Did have some goodies from the Jungle waiting, with more en route (yes, did have a bit of a spree this weekend).

I was still in utero at the time of the Apollo 11 mission.

I’d clean, polish shoes, and spoil both of 'em rotten if they’d let me eat some of their sumptuous repasts.

Evening all. Not much to report, napped and the Burger King provided evening sustenance, the AC is behaving, so all is right with the world.

swampy, like you, grew up without AC. Was somewhere in my teens when we got a wall unit, but don’t think my parents ever had central air. Of course, we lived in Northern Ohio, so the summer weren’t too bad, and it was more important that the heater worked…

SCAdian, have we given you a MMP name yet? I presume the SCA is for the
Society for Creative Anachronism, which leaves many possibilities which I am too tired to explore tonight.

doggio, sometimes folks just need to be hit over the head with something to see it. Or get a Gibbs headslap ™.

Everybody have a good night tonight.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 75 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 96 and mostly N.O.S. with an ogawful heat index. I swear the weather report has been the same the past five days! Today we launder. Woo and Hoo. Also, I need to go pick up a ‘scrip. I did an inventory of first aid supplies and our “health and beauty” stuff yestiddy and made a list of what we need. Health stuff is bandaids, sinus stuff, headache stuff, toothpaste, mouthwash and the like. Beauty stuff is shavin’ cream, shampoo, soap and the like, though mouthwash could be a beauty aid as it makes one’s breath smell purty. Anywho, since I have to go to the pharmacy, I shall steel myself and go purchase needed health and beauty stuff since I will be close to :scream: Wally*World :scream:. Sup shall be leftovers from Sunday since the need to be et up.

nellie we do own shoes that need to be polished. They are our formal wear as they have to be laced up. Ya know, I don’t even remember the last time either of us wore 'em.

flytrap git off’n mah lawn!

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Morning, mumpers! Another nice warm day here, windows are open and the cats are sprawled out on the landing in patches of sunlight but also in the path of the breeze.

I found out yesterday that my local gym is most likely not reopening at all, the chain’s been bought and a bunch of premises are closing. Mine’s had low membership numbers for a couple of years and has been teetering on the edge for a while so I think the lockdown has pushed it over now. I only found out after messaging one of the instructors who takes classes on Saturdays. Turns out she has been told to keep quiet about it, but she also said she’s doing outdoor classes in a local park so I am going along to that tonight instead. It’s a shame about the gym, it is only a few minutes’ walk from home and I rather liked it. Have to rethink that one now.

Thankfully no more terrifying dreams last night, but I still woke multiple times - my own fault for drinking so much water, I guess.

I was 15 when Neil walked on the moon and I remember watching on the B&W TV on the rickety stand in our living room. Mom thought it was important enough to let us stay awake for it.

Also, that house didn’t have a/c when we lived there, but I looked at a Google Maps image, and there’s a compressor sitting outside the basement window that was over the washer, so someone added it sometime after 1979. And my folks put a/c into their house shortly after Dad retired in '92 and Mom will use it during extreme heat, tho she claims to not need it.

I kinda made it up, but guesstimates:

  • 2# ground beef
  • 1 pack of onion soup mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup tomato juice
  • 1-2 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper

This should make 8 “steaks” - I didn’t make mine flat enough, so they plumped up when I cooked them and they looked like mini-meatloaves.

I sauteed some onions in a large pan, then removed them and cooked up the steaks, draining grease as I went along. Then I added the onions and a cup a brown gravy and simmered it all.

Not sure what today holds. SIL has to work from 5-10 tonight, so he won’t be supping with us. Daughter has to do some work for FCD, which will leave me to wrangle Roxy - I may take her outside for a bit before it gets too hot.

We shall see what adventures await! Happy Tuesday!

Good morning, y’all. I had two good night’s sleep in a row, and I guess that was all I deserved. Awake and up this morning at 4 am. Waiting for it to get light enough to walk-- sunrise officially at 6:48, so I guess at 6:30 it will be navigable. Temp is already 76.

Going to get my hair colored today and cut short-short-short. Another human being is actually going to be touching my body! I’ve had my hair done twice during lockdown, and the accompanying hair-washing is the only human touch of any kind that I’ve experienced since March.

TTFN. :walking_woman:t3:

Morning all!

Oops, or I could forget to post… Afternoon all!

Tis NOS and hot here, by my standards- probably most of you would still want a jacket. I’ll be heading out later, probably for walkies, but the arrival of a flock of tourists has made things a bit more complicated, especially when it’s nice. I shall definitely avoid the beaches. I need to go to the post office anyway.

I found out last night that my old juggling club’s lost its venue- it’s been in a church hall for over 20 years, but the church is closing and selling up. It’ll probably be flats soon. Not gonna make any difference for a while, especially to me, but…

Me as well, but a different utero.

This is week three of the nearby military airport filling in as the main base for the Swiss Air Force. This means morning and afternoon flights of at least 4 F/A-18 Hornets. As this is Switzerland, this activity is on the website, so I know there will be noise from 8:30 (they started quite punctually) until 17:00, with a 1:40 minute break for lunch.

This does not include any emergency action, of course.

It’s interesting to see them fly by, but I’m glad we’re outside of the valley where they take off. They are quite loud. Today it’s a bit cloudy, so they are more difficult to see. Yesterday we saw them rather close up as they approached the landing strip for their lunch break.

And we woke up to rain this morning, which was not in the weather forecast. It’s really humid and we might get some more thundershowers later in the afternoon.

Nice day to lay on the lounge and watch the clouds and planes go by.

Morning all. Up at 6am, so afternoon nappage is likely. Headed for 91F this afternoon with a 60% chance of afternoon tunder-boomers. Nothing much on the shopping list (except bananas), so don’t know if I’ll get outside or not.

DieC, Not a lot of room there to operate F-18 fighters; or I expect the Swiss have agreements with their neighbors to allow exercises over their countries. And yeah, they are quiet loud.

Nut, sorry about the club. Interesting that the Church is closing. Here in the USA they are usually recycled to another church (at least that is what it appears to me).

Boofae, don’t know about your neck of the planet, but I have lots of gyms within 5-7 miles of my house–I don’t know how they all stay in business and I suspect some of them won’t.

OK, need to get myself a Big Bowl O’Cheerios to break fast, so everyone have a good 2day.

Bum gerbils, y’all. Up and fed, but still too much blood in my caffeine system. Going to go stand in the rain locker a bit, and then make a quick trip to the commissary. Other than that, no real plans for the day, though I may break out the weedwhacker again despite the heat. I was twenty when I first lived in a house with A/C, and that was during the winter so it wasn’t in use. Certainly would be nice if we had it now…

FCM, I figured “NOS” was “Not Our Something”; just couldn’t guess what the “something” was. “NOL” appears to be “Not Our Lunch” – do we really have someone around here named that (or whose name approximates that)? The salisbury steaks on the boat always looked like mini-meatloaves. They were usually referred to as “trail markers”.

Metal Mouse, I don’t have a nickname here yet. And yes, the ‘SCA’ is for the Society for Creative Anachronism. Lady SCAdian and I were active members (that’s how we met, in fact) until she decided that, while she didn’t mind taking a baby to events, taking a baby and a toddler was a bit much.

Happy Toosday!
or not.

Wasn’t so hot this morning at the dog park, only 71 out there.
Supposed to get up to only 91 today.

Yesterday the neighbor, who brings me fresh from the oven cookies, asked if I could give him a ride to his doctor today. He has MS and doesn’t drive, so I took the morning off irk to take him. I don’t know how long it will take, but when I get back I need to call a plumber.
My bladder woke me last night, I walked into the bathroom and thought why is my foot wet. The toilet is leaking. I’m sure it’s just the wax ring, and I’m sure we could fix it ourselves, but I’m calling in a plumber anyway. I suppose I should call a plumber this morning and tell them not to come until afternoon as I won’t be home. While they are here I’ll get them to look at the other toilet which started irking and stopped again. I’m pretty sure we could fix that one too, I think the intake water line is clogged. While they are here I may as well see if they can put in some plumbing for the washer so I don’t have it blocking the sink.
I know the lawn guy could fix it, and would probably be a lot cheaper, but he is always so busy.
I think I’ll try him first though.

Tried calling the MVA yesterday, busy busy busy and can’t get through. I tried calling irk about my paycheck, busy busy busy and can’t get through.
I tried to close my NextDoor account yesterday, pissed me off one too many times. I thought I had blocked their emails, but I only blocked one kind of email, it seems they send several kinds of emails. Couldn’t find a way to close it but I can deactivate it. Then they, like so many other assholes, wanted to know why.
They never learn.

I liked NextDoor when it was simple stuff, like lost and found cats and dogs, who knows a good handyman, watch out for the kids on bikes who are throwing rocks at cars, little marketplace type stuff, older and handicapped people who need a ride somewhere, where the little neighborhood ‘food pantries’ are. We have a bunch of unofficial places in town when you can leave food and anybody can take it, they post little signs that say ‘leave what you can and take what you need’. Nice thing to do. Also little bookshelves with covers where you can take and leave books.
Now NextDoor has turned into a shit show of political arguments. Which might not be so bad if it weren’t mixed in with everything else.
Yesterday, some, I really hate the term but it fits, ‘karen’ wrote a 20+ paragraph screed about ‘the dangerous and frightening times were are living in’. Shut up ‘karen’. I don’t know what all she was going on about as I didn’t make it past the first two sentences.
I didn’t respond, but if I had, and maybe I should, but probably not
‘Little girl, these are not dangerous times, and they are only frightening because you let it be that way in your head. What we are going through is inconvenient and a pain in the ass. If you want some perspective and want to see dangerous and frightening, go look up pictures from the civil war, the dust bowl, and the depression. Those were dangerous and frightening times, those were hard times, this is but a pimple on the ass of the nation. I assume that since you have the time and energy to write a 20+ paragraph screed, you have a roof over your head, clothes on your back, and food in your belly, and the money to pay for them, along with a computer, electricty, and an internet connection. Grow up and have some gratitude that you live in a country where having these things are considered normal, and be grateful that you live in a country where you don’t have to walk miles to get clean water, or miles to go to school, and you have a doctor within driving distance and you don’t have to carry your sick child down a dirt road to two villages over to see one. Be glad that you don’t have to worry about where your next meal is coming from, or when your village is going to be raided by terrorists, or about bombs dropping on your head. Fucking dangerous and frightening, get a goddamned grip’.

Have I mentioned that I’ve been feeling rather bitchy lately?

And when did TacoHell stop serving breakfast?

As far as gyms go, I used to irk for one. I did a lot of programming for the legal department. I would say that their business practices were rather … creative? They were certainly not logical. Word was that the business only existed to launder money. Word was that it was mob controlled. I would not be surprised. I know for sure that that gym, and I’m sure many others, would quickly go out of business if everybody they sold a membership to actually showed up. They count on people not showing up. They do their best to insure it by not having enough equipment, so people willl get frustrated and stop coming. Quite the racket and perfectly legal.

Plans for today, I will be taking the neighbor to the doctor, calling a plumber, try to call the MVA, and try to call irk. I should do a load of laundry, and will wash the towels that are around the base of the toilet after the plumber gets done.
Always something.

You know what you can ship by UPS?

: squints at Nut :

Also it is 86 degrees Amurikin, with a heat index of 99. At 10a.m :open_mouth:

Crappy Tooosday to all.

Sam’s Club is out of most of the good stuff. I hate the idea that I probably won’t even bother with it any more. Sam’s has owned a good part of my heart for over thirty years, so I’m truly grieving.

If we were just holding together to battle COVID and wait for a vaccine, I could probably hold the stiff upper lip. But the storm troopers in Portland Oregon and the psychasthenia* by the Orange One in Washington scares the bejeezus out of me.

I don’t want to start having panic attacks. I’ve done that before, and it’s a waste of time and energy.

We need a Mumperland, where Mumpers can live in their own little crazy world, with doggies, snakes, kitties; there will be overflowing gardens to feed us all (menus from Swampy!), care for the recuperating folk, and we all concentrate on Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Amen.

~VOW

*psychasthenia : a cool word I learned today!

Know what you’re feeling, doggio. 87F here at 9:30am, albeit the heat index is only 90F.

Sari, probably best to let the plumber have a look. If the estimates for the other jobs are too high, you can always say thanks and try the alternatives. And FWIW, I agree with your non-posted post.

SCAdian, I thought so. Maybe knight should be you MMP name then. I’ll let some of our more veteran name-givers have a think at it. And congrats on the marriage/kids.

Vow, psychasthenia is a very cool word (and like most I had to look it up). And Mumperland sounds nice. Like I said, let me hit one of those giant Powerballs…

Paid my home insurance bill on-line instead of waiting for it in the mail, so that is done. Outside of that it has not been a particularly constructive morning. Such is life.

We had a Mumper called Noone_Special, which morphed to Nooner which further morphed to Lunch, ergo… He quit posting quite a while back, tho some of us are FB friends, so he’s still alive and all.

I wound up taking Roxy to the playground this morning before it got too hot and nasty. She ran around and climbed and slid and tried out a few swings and hugged one little girl and made friends with a 6-month-old baby over the course of an hour and a quarter. Once we got home, I made her a PB&J, and I just now put her down for a nap. It’s way earlier than usual, but she was up just after 6, and I guess all that fresh air and activity just kicked her toddler butt.

I don’t know if it hurts SIL’s feelings or not, but she seems to prefer me to him. Sometimes. Other times, Papa is way cool! Toddlers - who knows??

I’m not sure what the rest of my day will hold. I don’t think following her around the playground counts as much exercise - maybe a leisurely stroll but hardly a workout. I kinda wish I had a treadmill so I could just walk at home in the a/c!

So, now, what to thaw for supper…

Incidentally, sari, I think you should have posted it.
