MADS: When is Gettydope this year?

Okay, normally I wouldn’t be wondering this early, but we’ve had the whole thing with scheduling not too long ago, and I can’t remember what we settled on (though September was mentioned a lot). Plus I can remember someone mentioning June in a recent thread, but if it’s June, that means we have less than 3 months to get things organized. Forgive me for seeming a little pushy, but if supervenusfreak and I are going to clear our schedule, we need to know what weekend we’re clearing it for.

So what DID we decide on for a date?

My reading of this thread leaves me thinking that it will be September, specific date to be tweaked to avoid Yom Kippur, which is the 22nd this year – so Gettysdope would be the 15th. danceswithcats, Scuba Ben – you’d be the main two with an alternative date, I believe.

(dwc was agitating to do it in June so someone, I don’t recall who, could be a special guest before going somewhere, I don’t recall where – but I think that discussion was done through the Yahoo group, not on the boards.)

ETA – might you and the lovely supervenusfreak be interested in an outing to a topiary garden on May 5th?

I would have to discuss. I know we’re doing something the last weekend of April, but I think the first weekend of May is free. I’m not sure though. We’ll get back to yinz.

First weekend in AP weeks…I shouldn’t, but I probably won’t be studying anyway.

September is almost certainly not going to work for me, as I will be in Blacksburg starting in late August-early Septemberish.

I’m coming to this one - count me in!
A GettysDope newbie.

Yay, we’ve got BiblioCat coming to GettysDope!

Which other first-time GDopers will we have?

Ben – could you confirm that the 15th doesn’t conflict with the Jewish holidays?

Rosh Hashanah is the 13 and the 14th. Yom Kippur is the 22nd. So the 15th misses both.

Robin

While this post cannot in any way be considered a formal confirmation, I think we can at least consider this a threat to attend, on my part. I might even bring that pierogie casserole I’ve been promising forever. (I’ve never been to Gettysdope, but I have met some of you before, for whatever that may be worth.)

Yay, rockle’s thinking about coming!

We’ll have to have a table just for The Amazing Race discussion.

September 15? Just what happens at Gettydope, anyway? Is it just hanging out somewhere? I’d be another newbie coming, if it suits the schedule – I’ve tentatively got a trip planned to the west coast some time along in then, but don’t know what the dates would be at this point.

Anyway, if I can make it, it would definitely be fun. And I’d DEFINITELY be up for an Amazing Race table!

It’s a big old picnic! Everybody brings either food or cups or plates or something, and we all just spend the day eating and talking and playing games. Last year we had a book/CD/PC game exchange, too.

It’s a cookout Dopefest in, well, Gettysburg PA. Past attractions have included Mudgirl earning her name; AntaresJB seranading us with her rendition of 4’33" and other guitar selections; and various travel-friendly games.

ETA: Sniped by jayjay while I was getting lunch. Oh well.

Don’t believe him! It’s an afternoon of wild debauchery and stuff.

Well, okay. It is a picnic, but an especially fun one.

Robin

I have wild debauchery several times a year, but only one picnic…

You’ve never met me before, and we live in the same town! (Of course, I only moved here back in September.)

Do you game? I’ve all sorts of games that I want to play again (various Crayola rails, Arkham Horror, Talisman . . .).

So where it is held? I.e. is it someplace we could bring our two silly dogs to enjoy the picnic with us, too? Because there’s nothing they love better than making new friends! Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

It’s always been at a pavilion at a public park (the actual name of which I forget) in Gettysburg. (Though never the same pavilion twice, so far)

It’s at the Gettysburg Area Recreation Park. The accommodations are nice, and we’ve had some good picnics so far, or at least, no one’s been visited by the Gettysburg Police afterwards and the woman at the Parks Department no longer thinks we’re crazy when we call to book the pavilion.

IIRC dogs are allowed, and there is lots of room for kids, and some good playgrounds.

Robin

You bring it, we’ll probably play it.

Keep in mind that the pavillions are open-air, so a good stiff breeze will send lightweight game materials (paper money, cardboard counters, cards, etc.) sailing across the table.
