I guess this means you can now serve more than 1 customer at a time in the bar then
Am I the only one paranoid that His Squidliness might actually have a Bomb this time?
And now that I’ve had time to reread, I’ve gotten to Omi no Kami’s very eyebrow-raising downer post. Big pointy FoS on Omi no Kami.
What, me, bomb?
Don’t worry, dot, if I had one, it would be aimed right at Cat’s furry little noggin, not yours. But I don’t. So don’t sweat it.
Shizemick. Does it not strike anyone that it is terribly odd that this game is going so well for town, or so it appears.
Damn, paranoia.
Crap, a whole buffet of targets in the days to come.
And if one night kill is all that can be mustered that could be a while.
It’s gone quiet in here, wonder why
Ok, a question for all.
What do you think the situation is if
a) I come back with a name for Roosh’s killer
b) I come back and say Roosh’s killer was a Vampire.
I hope nobody is assuming that I am automatically going to come back with a name for last Night’s killer are they?
a) We test it, just like we’re doing now with Nanook.
b) I start finding you a little more suspicious than I did before, but I don’t know if it’s enough to string you up for, if that’s what you’re asking.
If you’re asking if I’d string you up for it, I don’t know. I’d hate to lose a real Detective. On the other hand, you’ve been all over my scumdar for the whole game. On the third hand, my scumdar sucks.
Fair enough.
No surprises here (well, other than the sudden name change):
vote Boozahol Squid, P.I.
How about we wait and see what you come up with, then act on that? I don’t see a good reason for us to preview our reactions for you.
Agreed. Cat, just about everything you’ve said and done so far has been suspicious. Only the absence of a Detective counterclaim, and my sense that there’s probably a Detective in the game somewhere, keeps that suspicion in check at this point.
On another note, I’ve been thinking quite a bit about Boozy Diomedes, Inc, and I’m a little curious about his fairly quick abandonment of the Warlock claim and switch over to the Vampire claim. Why would he do this?
His stated reason makes no sense. If he’s telling the truth, and Nanook is scum, then the eventual reveal of Boozy’s role will hang Nanook soon enough. Admittedly, the votes had piled up fast and furious, but if he had hung on to the Warlock claim he might have saved himself. The chance was slim, but not nonexistent, particularly if no Warlock counterclaimed. And if a Warlock DID counterclaim, hey, from Boozy’s perspective, he’s outed a pro-Town power role, so at least the death would have meant something.
So why abandon the effort, so quickly?
Well, what would have happened if he had continued to maintain his claim of Warlock? There would have been discussion of the role. Some players would have expressed skepticism, others would have unvoted grudgingly, but there would have been discussion.
Now, as I see it there are three possibilities: Boozy is a Wolf, Boozy is really a Vamp, or Boozy is Cabal. If he’s the first or the last, he has living team-mates. And those team-mates, plus the Necromancer, would have had to participate in the discussion of the Warlock claim with perfect information that Boozy was lying. In other words, if Boozy is either Wolf or Cabal, a discussion of his fake role claim would be fertile ground for a slip on the part of one of his bretheren. Since maintaining that Warlock claim had little chance of substantial benefit, and generated a threat to his cohorts by forcing them to talk about a subject about which they had perfect knowledge, he abandoned it.
Now here’s the interesting proposition. Clearly, this line of thinking - that the Warlock claim puts his bretheren in danger - did not occur to Boozy when he made the claim in the first place. Something put that thought in his head. So my thought is: what if, at some point after the initial Warlock claim, one of Boozy’s fellow scum made a comment regarding Boozy’s claim that made Boozy nervous, that made him think his fellow scum was teetering on the edge of exposure? In this hypothetical, Boozy is worried that if the discussion continues in that direction, not only will he (Boozy) be lynched eventually, but a cohort will be exposed. So he derails the discussion in the simplest way imaginable: claim unattached scum, so that we’ll: (1) stop looking at the Warlock claim; and (2) not look too closely at responses to it.
What think?
You don’t think any discussion right now is good? Bringing up ideas can get the wheels turning…Cat seems to be trying to stimulate some discussion. If you see a reason his questions are anti-town, then start discussing that instead?
I think it’s still plausible that Boozahol is Town. Specifically, that he is a Warlock, and is fake-claiming Vampire to ensure he gets lynched.
When you think about it, the Warlock role isn’t going to do much to deflect a lynch. It’s one of those roles that’s hard to confirm unless you pick the right victim to enchant. If BS PI is a Warlock, maybe he thinks that the best thing he can do is to sacrifice himself to out the liar asap.
As another point, there is no rule saying there is one of each role. BS PI could be a Warlock without precluding someone else from being a Warlock.
If you are right and he changed claims to avoid his teammates having to discuss the fake claim while knowing what he is, it’s far more likely that he’s Werewolf than Cabal, because the Cabal can talk among themselves in the Day as well as the Night; Wolves can only talk at Night.
I don’t really have a problem with Cat’s hypothetical question, so long as he remains under scrutiny. What is there to be afraid of? If he’s somehow trying to publicly communicate with a faction he otherwise can’t communicate with, he could be an Undead or various Town roles. If he’s trying to gauge and anticipate what consensus might be based on various outcomes of the decision that he faces, I really don’t see the harm. If he’s trying to get people “on-record” with responses to a hypothetical scenario to somehow use against someone in the future, I again can’t see much danger lurking there. He’s made plays like this in the past. “Aha! You may not agree with or understand what I’ve said, but I’ve already received some very interesting information in the reactions that have been provided so far…” Whatever he’s saying, he’s saying out here in the open where we can keep our eyes on him, and whoever responds to him.
I’m going to be re-reading Omi no Kami’s posts toDay, and trying to understand what those of you who suspect him are seeing in his posts that I have not picked up on.
story’s theory about The Squid’s about face on the Warlock claim makes some sense. He’s certainly not acting like an innocent Townie. If he’s a wolf, whether he realized the perfect information risk to the other wolves on his own, or it was realized in discussions on the Wolf boards…both serve equally well as a possible motive for changing his tune.
Re-reads Rules for the umpteenth time
Scratch that “maybe they detected the risk on the Wolf boards” idea then.
An altruistic Warlock sacrificing himself to expose Nanook is plausible too, I suppose, but why be so quiet and matter of fact about it? I can’t help but think that if it were I in The Squid’s position, and I truly was a Warlock who could peg Nanook as a lying scum, I would be railing and fighting tooth and nail against Nanook, trying to prompt some further discussion, both from Nanook and perhaps some of his scummy friends. There would still be plenty of time to get lynched as a scum-finding martyr later in the Day, and there just might be a slip catalyzed that would end up sending someone else to the noose.
You’re talking to a Detective, right here
Squid didn’t need to false claim to get lynched. Even if he stayed as a Warlock, he would be lynched anyway.
So storyteller, how does your theory hold up against **pedescribe ** doing the same thing yesterday?
As for Squid: My take on it is that he is a Wolf trying to set me up, knowing what the result of toDay’s investigation is going to be. Making the best of being outed so to say. He was pretty certain that he knew what the result was going to be.
What I want to see are what people think the situation is and get people talking? Some people already know what tonight’s result are going to be? I want to see if any of them slip. But if you have no comment, so be it.
I agree it’s quiet in here and we could use more discussion, but not all discussions are necessarily good. This was my initial thought after reading Cat’s post: “He’s softening the ground for when he doesn’t come up with a killer.” Of course, I had this thought because I remain very skeptical of Cat’s claim, and I think the odds of him actually being the Detective are lower than his being Scum. So, I tend to look at his posts with a “why would Scum post this?” mindset. Let’s look at the post in 2 parts:
In this part, I potentially see a Scummy Cat trolling for reactions if he fails to come with a killer. If a lot of people indicate a willingness to let him live, then he knows he can pull the “Vampire did it” card again. If a lot of people indicate that he better come up with something or else, he may decide to cut his losses, name a killer, and ride out the test of that ID over the next couple of Days, fingering another patsy along the way. This is why I thought it would be anti-town to answer those questions.
And the second part:
This is the “softening of the ground” thing I mentioned above. “Don’t forget, everyone, I might not get a result!!” As if we’re all not fully aware of that by now? Please.
It just seems like that’s so obvious, ShadowFacts. Possibly poor play, but I wonder if he’d be so hamfisted about it if that was the intention.
I no longer buy “it’s too obvious” as a valid reason not to suspect someone. I can’t tell you how many times someone posted that very thing about a suspicious MadTheSwine in a previous game - turns out he was the Lead Assassin! Scum are humans, too
Hi, folks. I’m neck deep in wedding drama so I have not even had a chance to read the thread. I’m going to
vote Shadowfacts…for being the last person to post and to avoid a modkill. Will try to be back before Day’s end to revise.
