Mafia: Evil Dead - DAY/NIGHT SIX

EXT A CLEARING IN THE WOODS - JUST PAST MIDNIGHT

A few branches part, and COMETOTHEDARKSIDEWEHAVEALONGUSERNAME steps into the clearing. We see a POV shot of COOKIES, from the perspective of someone who is already in the clearing.

COOKIES
So… it’s you.
(Laughs)
Thought you could trick me, didn’t ya? Bringing me out here? But I’ve got news for you… I’m prepared.
(Laughs again, a little crazy)
Check this out.

Musical sting. COOKIES holds up her hand, snarls. Close on COOKIES.

COOKIES
You see this? This is my boomstick!

POV shot shifts to look at the contents of COOKIES hand. It is a tree branch.

COOKIES
Fuck!
(Laughs)
Well, that’s all right, you gender-nonspecific bitch. I got a better surprise. You know, I was going to take it easy here. Live and let live.
(Cackles)
Well, whatever that means to you bastards. But no. You fuckers killed the dog. The sorority girl I get, but what kind of inhuman monster kills a dog? So I spent me some quality time with my own left hand…
(Cuts off)
Don’t you laugh at me, that’s not what I meant. Check this out.

*COOKIES holds up her other hand. The hand has been roughly chopped from the forearm, and replaced with a huge chainsaw. COOKIES yanks the pullcord, and the chainsaw springs to life. We hear the SOUND OF SLIDING METAL THAT ALWAYS SIGNIFIES THE DRAWING OF A WEAPON EVEN THOUGH NO WEAPON EVER CREATES MAKES THAT SOUND WHEN DRAWN. The leaves in the surrounding forest suddenly stop blowing in the breeze.

COOKIES looks up.*

COOKIES
Come get some.

*She charges toward her foe, directly toward the camera, raising the chainsaw on high.

CUT TO BLACK.

Long pause.

Then, fade up on*

EXT THE CLEARING - MORNING

The group is gathered around the clearing. Three student stands forward of the rest, looking down at an unpleasant sight. We hear the sputtering sound of a chainsaw.

SOMEONE
Oh, that’s gotta hurt.

*Pan down to the shape of COOKIES, stabbed fatally through the heart, whose body has pitched over on top of her still-running chainsaw. There is sufficient blood and gore to earn us an R rating, and then,

CUT TO BLACK.*

CometotheDarkSideWeHaveCookies, a Pro-Town Former Vanilla Who Was Less Vanilla By This Point, has been killed.

Thus beginneth Day Six. Because of the delayed start to this Day, and because I think a full Day taking place principally over a weekend will not be good for the game as a whole, I am going to somewhat extend the Day (I know, I know, I said no power on earth could extend the Day; strange things happen). The Day will end at 1:00PM EST on Tuesday, January 20th, at which point we will resume our former schedule.

That was weird. I wonder what happened?

What the heck does “Former Vanilla Who Was Less Vanilla By This Point” even MEAN? That Cookies was Vanilla, but not any more since she’s dead? That she had some non-Vanilla powers that she opted to use? What does that mean for the magic bags she sprung on us?

Storyteller, are you going to give us more information about Cookies’ abilities?

Argh.

Also, could some of you game-balance types help me get an idea of what we might be looking at? Since there’s two 4/5ths alive players, does that mean we’re functionally at 11/4 toDay?

We should probably seriously consider mass-claiming toDay. (Though I’m not confident about how orderly we can be about this.)

I think **cookies **abilities are as she described. Ash-like without the Ash powers.

That’s how the…

wait for it…

cookie crumbles.

BOOOOOOOOO!
:stuck_out_tongue:
That was atrocious.

That is about as meaningless a statement as has attempted to be a meaningful statement in this game.

Vote on MHaye stands. Not trusting the claim at this point.

Um…OK. Color me curious. I wonder what all her powers were and if she got any more helpful info last night. Not that we can get to it now. :frowning:

My guess is Cookies’ power(s) were unlocked when she got the one-fifth dead information (with the ‘little white lies’ referring to her own PM?). It looks like a killing power from the color, but perhaps only defensive.
Another possibility is it only got unlocked Yesterday or last Night (because Cookies was NAF confirmed by then).

If it was a killing Night action, it didn’t work or got blocked. It might have been imaginary (like the shotgun being a tree branch).
Since Cookies died, she wasn’t the mystery person protected by MHaye.
Did the vigilante also get blocked, or do we simply have none? I doubt he double-targeted Cookies.
Same for the doctor - protecting a mason or we have none? Maybe DiggitCamara had a power to protect pedescribe Night One.

Pleonast isn’t a girl right? But I assume with the ‘you gender-nonspecific bitch’, etc I should not read anything into that.

If assuming four scum then yes, fifteen players alive so 11/4, but earlier I (and others) assumed three scum so 12/3, but for win conditions the one-fifths are counted, making it 12/3.4 (not-scum/scum).
Assuming two kills (no further evidence of a vigilante) per Day/Night then:
D7: 10/3.4, D8: 8/3.4, D9: 6/3.4, D10: 4/3.4 (LyLo), D11: 3/2.6 (LyLo), D12: 2/1.8 (LyLo), D13: 2/5x0.2 (no idea what happens then).
This assuming scum lynches on Day 10/11/12, no additional townies turning one-fifth dead or one-fifths getting vanquished. So we got four mislynches left.

About the mass-claim, can someone tell me the benefit? I can see that if two people claim a similar role, one of them is most likely scum. But if scum just claim vanilla, what do we gain while scum gets to know who the power roles are?

Maybe Cookie (sorry to see you go :frowning: ) was some kind of deputy or retired cop. Getting infomations from a cop and being able to share them with us.

That could mean that the little white lie was that Story didn’t put the info on me in the PM but that she was told later??

That way she was a vanilla to being with - but the role would grow into “Less Vanilla By This Point” as she got more and more info.

I think a vote for **Mhaye **at this point would be prudent. I’m just not buying the bill of goods he’s trying to sell us.

sigh Hit the submit button before color coding my Vote for Mhaye!

If Pede also votes for MHaye I will follow this decision but right now I’m quite happy with my vote for Brewha.

Unvote AH
Vote MHaye

For the reasons I said day 5 plus the reasons others gave night 5.

At this point I doubt that there are that many power roles left who can seriously tip the balance of the game, so claiming while the Town still has a numerical advantage and has a few mislynches to burn is on the whole a good idea. In detail:

  1. Conflicting claims, as you mentioned, is an immediate sign that somebody is lying. Even if we lynch the power role first, the 1-for-1 trade is worth it.

  2. Made up claims tend to smell fishy (see the demise of Blaster Master; we don’t know which way Mhaye will turn up yet, so that’s not a data point yet), and depending on the role claimed the scum in question might have to keep making up more information; sooner or later something won’t add up.

  3. Even if all of the scum claim vanilla, the pool of vanilla is now small enough that we can just focus our attention on the unconfirmed. Then, at Night, the scum have to decide whether to try taking out any claimed power roles or shrink the pool that they’re hiding in.

…of course, all of this assumes that the Town-aligned players are going to be 100% honest. Which they are, usually, but every once in a while weird things happen. (See Roosh fake-claiming vanilla in the Firefly game until he had enough investigation results to come out as Backup Cop, or attempting to claim Wang Chung, hater of Shoes, in the Three Kingdoms game so he wouldn’t lose his weak Doc powers.)

Well, that wasn’t a very good Night. I wonder what caused the delay of game? I’d long given up and tried for sleep when the Dawn appeared. I expect we’ll find out eventually, ie when our knowledge of the issue can’t hurt the game.

There’s no good way to say this, so I’d best just say it. I protected DarkCookies last Night, and somehow they lured her out to the death scene without alerting me, thus I wasn’t able to defend her.

I’m sure you’ve got questions; so let’s answer the obvious ones.

  1. What was this mysterious power DarkCookie had that you picked up on which nobody else admitted to seeing?

To answer that, we need to go back to Day 4. In the middle of the exchanges with Baster Master, DarkCookies [post=10667722]admitted to having a dream the previous Night[/post]. In the context of the discussion, with BlaM admitting to trying to kill DarkCookies with a nightmare-induced heart attack, no-one really speculated on what the dream might entail. I didn’t really think about it until partway through the Night.

DarkCookies had a dream about a hideous, scaly-featured and very very evil version of herself who is among the players and to whom she is strongly connected. That is, she has a link to one of the deadites.

How many times have I read books in which a character’s dreams turn out to arise from a psychic link between them and the villain, who is leaking information that proves useful in running down the nemesis and finding the weakness they need to slay them?

More often than I could count.

Would DarkCookies have more dreams? I didn’t know, but I strongly suspected that if Storyteller had put in the Dark Doppelganger, and stressed to Cookies that she felt a connection, that there was a pretty good chance he would send more information DarkCookies way in dreams. If she died that Night, we’d never know. I really expected her to be attacked on Night 4, because if the deadites had recognised the threat they’d have taken the first opportunity to whack her. The fact they didn’t made me think they had not caught on.

Now you know who this “power role” was.

The other question I expect is “How did they get past your guard, hmmm?”

I don’t know. The PM I had after Dawn didn’t spell it out. You’ll ask me to quote it. So let’s do that anyway.

I’ve asked whether this represents some percentage chance of failure of my role, but haven’t had a reply yet. I’ll let you know what he says when I get a reply.

This seems to suggest Cookies was lured out. But if we take the color that way your protection would probably have been useless to what killed NAF (glowy yellow light) or against Blaster Masters dreams. Perhaps scum have several ways to Night kill and you could only stop Strongman macey (and maybe vigilante and The Predator)?

On one hand that makes you power less strong (like BlaM not being able to kill everyone), on the other hand it seems useless now.

I think I’m just looking for excuses though, because the mass claim suggested needs protectors to work.

But without protectors, there is nothing to stop scum from just killing the power roles (so they don’t need to shrink the vanilla pool). And that is assuming all power claims are town, which they don’t have to be.

Like I said, at this point a truthfully claiming power role is pretty much just another member of the Town. We’ll be looking at all claims, power and vanilla, and evaluating them on an individual basis. I just broke down the scenarios along the simplest lines.

Sure, it’d be nice if there were a hidden power role that had some kind of magic “Win the Game” button, but at this point the mass claim is something that has an overall net benefit for the town, IMHO.

I think I see what you mean now: it gives us more information to determine whether some is scum or town. That information is useless to scum because they already got it. Both get new information on the power roles.
The question is: is the scum pool reduction with any believable power claims enough to offset giving scum a clear target of them?

27 players, my guesses for the roles:
5 scum, 2 pfk, 4 masons, 6 town power roles and 10 vanilla.

15 players left alive:
2 confirmed masons (one dead mason)
1 unclaimed mason (the Sorority President?).
3 scum
7 vanilla (two Alpha, one Beta dead)
2 power roles (four dead), most likely some sort of vigilante (killing Night One) and doctor (maybe protected pedescribe Night One or Cookies Night Three).

MHaye claimed some sort of doctor, so a mass claim Today could shed some more light on him.
So I think I am in favor of a mass claim, to give us more information to work with (and we put the extra time Today to good use :)).
The reason to take the risk of outing the power roles:

  1. vigilante: hasn’t killed since Night One - so if he got blocked, he can help confirm a doctor. If a scum also claims vigilante, they probably kill each other next Night (win for town since not at LyLo). Losing him is not that bad, since it is not that likely we uncover two scum on a Day (one to Lynch and one to vig).
  2. a doctor can most likely self protect (or WIFOM scum).

If we do mass claim, do we full claim or hide some information like Alpha/Beta and maybe if a doctor can self protect or not?
Also Rapier42 is on vacation, not sure exactly when he’ll be back.

MHaye, can I make sure I’m understanding your claim? Stripping away the flavor here:

  1. You automatically self-protect every night.
  2. You can choose to protect another, in addition to yourself.
  3. The first time someone attempts to kill you or your target, the attack should fail (barring interference)
  4. The second time there is an attempt to kill you or your target, the attack will fail and the killer will die
  5. Once that happens, you are vanilla.

You have not used either of your charges yet.

Is all of the above accurate?
