Mafia Reunion - Day 9

Regarding my issues with you D6:

<starting early-to-mid-conversation here, the entire back and forth is there for anyone who cares to see>

So sniffing at my vote and trying to dismiss it as pure “Me Too” completely ignores full exchanges that we’ve had, and is some disingenuousness on your part. Plus I find it pretty interesting that you were so concerned about Night kills but not Day kills. I think that’s because you’re Mafia.

I’m totally comfortable returning to a

vote Johnny Bravo

good on you then. You did not respond to my post 47 IMO with other than the following

I took it as rhetorical

we all ( Town anyway) want them to kill each other.
So If you are Town you share your thoughts on who is Scum. If it is not a player on *their * Scum team, maybe they will aim there.
Throwing power roles out of the bunker is less appealing to me.

My whole point in mentioning that on D8 was that I had previously found you suspicious, and couldn’t evaluate further at that time, and a Mason was finding you suspicious as well, so I was putting my vote in that direction. I’m not sure why you’re surprised that people still consider your activity from previous Days when evaluating you toDay, if you are scum now, you were still scum then, so it is still relevant.

I am also looking at your behavior on other Days, don’t worry. If you’d like to point me in the direction of anything particularly scummy you said, that would make it go a lot faster. As you said, there have been many, many hundreds of posts, with a good number by you.

Thanks. I must’ve seen your comment to Guiri and kept moving.

Happy to wait patiently while you do it. Meanwhile, would you care to comment on any of toDay’s issues?

Hmm let me think about this

Johnny- was the almost runner up - when a Town player was ( in my opinion) 'easy lynched " – that alone generally breeds suspicion–
many votes on the lynchee were loosely- I think- based on other peoples cases and one of those cases was from a Mafia.

He ( early on) was more concerned about a Night Kill than a Day Kill.
He is pushing - hard IMO- for Town specifically to claim.

I was tempted to vote just because I felt he was being a jerk ( game self not real self).
that would have been bad play
but per above there is much more to it.

** vote Johnny Bravo **

I don’t understand this answer. You say “How would one of us know how many deacons there are”. Well, if there were 5 deacons then deacon number 5 would know that. That player would immediately know that there was no room for another type of lutha and could immediately counterclaim. Are you saying that scum just guessed/hoped that there were not 5 deacons?

to put another way -** sinjin** claims to be a cultist, and that there are 5, but sinjin is not a deacon so they would know that not all cultists are deacons - right?

Scum may have thought about it- Before a non deacon claimed cult - but nobody knows what the 5th is. -now- ( except one)

Day ends Sunday- correct?

I’m LUTHA.
Welcome to the game; you are The High Priest of the Cult of Lutha

ALIGNMENT: Third Party (Non-Hostile)
YOU WIN along with all members of the Cult, living or dead, if any of the five Cultists of Lutha are alive when the game ends in any other way.

BACKGROUND:
Some people venerate wealth or power, or chase sirens of fame or possessions. Not you. You care nothing for the bloodlust of the Werewolves, or the base greed and pinstripes of the Mafia, or even for the pleasant camaraderie of the Town. You are the Cult of Lutha, and your numbers are legion. Actually, your numbers are five. You don’t know one another’s names or faces, but so long as even one of you remains alive, the principles of Lutha will triumph in the end.

(Postscript: “Lutha” stands for “Leave Us the Hell Alone.” You are no threat to any side. Good luck convincing them of this).

POWERS:
On any given Day, you may choose to cancel all secondary lynches; the order to do this must be submitted during the previous Night. Your power affects only extra lynches earned by extra Town deaths during the Night; you cannot cancel or affect the primary lynch in any way.

Oh, one more thing. You also have a switch. It’s labeled “Bloodhound Switch”. Each Night, it begins in the “on” position and you may flip it to “off” or leave it alone. There is another switch like this out there, by the way.
I believe Koldanar is LUTHA. I’m always a little paranoid, and I understand why sinjin might be suspicious of Koldanar, but I don’t agree. Although his power is worded differently, and his claim was drawn out, I just don’t see scum claiming the way he did. He was the first to mention GLaDOS once Cookies was outed, and only seemed to be claiming LUTHA as a secondary concern. He clearly meant to claim LUTHA, but if it was a false claim I would expect scum to make the claim the centerpiece of the post, not bury it in a discussion of having the SK switch. Koldanar’s initial claim post for anyone who wants to review it.

That being said, if there are other LUTHA who haven’t claimed, I encourage them to do so. If there’s a false claim in our midst it’s best to figure it out now.

Those who don’t trust the cult probably won’t believe me, but I’ve been trying to play on the side of town the whole game. From Day 1 I figured that it was easier to win with town than somehow work to help scum win. I dislike playing scum because I find the sleuthing aspects of the game the most enjoyable. I admit I wasn’t thrilled to end up third party this game.

My actions are easy to explain. Every Night I’ve submitted them as:

Do not affect the secondary lynches.
Turn the Bloodhound Switch off.

I saw the additional lynches as a very pro-town option. Town often gets it wrong, but also often has scum as second choice. I was a little tempted to change my mind when Chrys and Sach were looking like possible second lynches, but logic was seeming to prevail that LUTHA wasn’t a threat, so I stuck to my original plan to hope any additional lynches would net scum. The sooner we offed all the scum, the sooner we would win.

I debated whether or not to reveal I have the Bloodhound Switch. It puts a target on my back since the Bloodhound is still alive. I finally decided to just get the full disclosure out of the way. I hope both mafia and wolves won’t kill me because there are better targets (hopefully each other). Wolves might kill me to free up the Bloodhound, but I think the Bloodhound is pretty useless at this point. The only unclaimed town roll with an action left is Zoning Inspector, and there’s a good chance that will be claimed by the end of the Day. Mafia might kill me if they have the other switch, so that they can control it, but that’s a bit of a waste just to protect the Enforcer from being tracked. I’m guessing the Mook has already used their one time power.

I hope it’s obvious that I turned off the Bloodhound Switch every Night to hopefully keep them from being able to preform their action. Later in the game I wondered if maybe it would have been better to let wolves maybe use the bloodhound to find mafia, but overall I still feel that depriving scum of any more information is pro-town. I thought about flipping a coin the first few Nights, but decided random wasn’t much better than just off. After a number of players had died I figured the best game theory was that there was a chance the other switch holder was dead, so there was a higher chance that off would really be off.

I believe town can pull this off, and I hope at least one LUTHA is still alive at the end to share the win.

I agree with this. The point of the mass claim is to shrink the pool so we can concentrate our efforts. Taking this even further, having any unclaimed players in general results in late claims, wasting our efforts, and leads to last minute confusion.

This a disagree with, for the above reason. Everyone should claim, even vanilla. The expectation of a claim from everyone is a key component of mass claims. It locks the scum into making a decision now, that they can’t back out of.

If every vanilla town and every scum is forced to claim vanilla the scum can’t later counter-claim under lynch pressure.

 • Claims included with a grain of salt.

If my count is correct it looks like the claimed are:

2 masons
2 counter-claimable power roles

3 cult

For a hopeful total of 7 non-scum.

That leaves:

3 vanilla, unverifiable town
2 roles (Patsy, Zoning Inspector) that could claim
3 mafia
3 wolves

6 scum in a pool of 11 players.

I would really like to see the Patsy and Zoning Inspector claim, making it 6 scum in 9 instead. The Zoning Inspector power doesn’t seem that useful at this point, so narrowing the pool might be more important. I think the Patsy should definitely claim. Sure, they can take out a target of their choice if they are lynched, but we are basically trading a kill for a townie being lynched. Why not just avoid the Patsy lynch and lynch scum instead? The Patsy being part of the confirmable pool is much more valuable.

Nesta, you’re the High Priest but Koldanar is claiming Pontiff.

Those two titles mean almost the exact same thing. A pontiff IS a high priest.

More specifically, a pontiff is a pope. Pope > High Priest!

Barring any 4th claims to LUTHA, it sounds like we’re all out there right now.

Will the last two town power roles claim?

Let me clarify that I agree with you here, but I’m operating under the assumption that we’re going to have several lurkers who won’t be bothered to take part in the claim. I was saying that we don’t necessary have to rely on them to make the claim valuable.

I have more stuff to address but I want to get this out while I have a minute:

This claim was ludicrous when it was first floated and it still is. No strategy talk at night is pretty standard Mafia play and I was arguing that we should stick to that.

Now, there were players who said that this game is different and so town needs to act differently. That’s fine and I’ve more or less come around to that.

But - my argument was that we should stick to regular convention - these two are saying that I was unconcerned about Day kills because, what, I wasn’t also trying to tell town to avoid talking during the Day?

This is 100% manufactured reasoning.

Not in my experience.

“No talk at night” is not a convention. It happens in games where the rules forbid strategy talk at Night. If the rules allow it, it can (and should) be used.

There are ways around revealing stuff to the Nightkillers.

Conventional in the games I’ve played, at least. There’s still no reasonable way to conflate that with me not being worried about night kills.

Or day kills. I can’t even keep up with the accusation because it makes so little sense.
