A Patsy is a Miller with the difference being that you “if thou art killed by Night or by Day, thou mayest make one reciprocal kill at thine own discretion”.

Or words to that effect.

One being the number of the killing, and the killing of the number shall be one. Two is right out.

Drain Bead, have you ever played with or read a game with Meeko before? Because if so, voting him for not making sense is pretty much the textbook example of an easy, lazy vote.

I probably have. I’m not voting him for not making sense. I’m voting for him because he’ll make a perfectly salient point, then throw in some fluff, then say something that is almost diametrically opposed to the first salient point, but is itself also a salient point. I’m voting him for talking out of both sides of his mouth.

If I make two salient points, regardless of how they interact with each other, aren’t I playing the game twice as much? Nothing stops any other player from taking one, or the other point and … You know, working on it and respond to it. And on Day One, I think having any … Thought piece on the table is good.

On the whole, even if I am speaking out of both sides [[I take your point, but I’m not sure I’d couch it with so strict a phrase]] as long as they are both salient, I don’t really see an issue. Unless you want to make it one. I can’t play this game all on my own.

I don’t have my ideas in any semblance of organization. I don’t necessarily “play” the game when I’m in front of a screen. … That is, I think about Mafia at other times, and (believe it or not) reason things in my head first. I do this for next to everything. All at once, all the time. In the shower, at 3-4 am in the morning trying to sleep.

Also, I think it’s a bit of a double standard that players like me fall into. Respectfully, I’m sure you would (and probably have) made a similar comment on Peeker’s play.

I mean, you can get Meeko from what, 8 or so years ago (My god.) or you can get me as I am now. … And I think everyone agrees I am doing better.

I’m not buying the train on Colby. Even if he was scum, he’d be technically incorrect referring to the “other team” because he’d still be playing against two other groups.

Meeko, you misunderstand me. I think that being confirmed Town has significant value, and in fact I said as much in reference to the Miller just now. The problem with trying to confirm oneself Town isn’t in that being confirmed Town isn’t worth anything. The problem is that it’s usually not possible. I mean, if it is possible to prove yourself, then do it (ideally in the mid to late game, if you can), but most of the time, it won’t be. When Town wins, it’s usually because two people who aren’t confirmed both manage to make the right choice between Town and Scum, without any concrete proof at all.

What I find more troubling, is that he mused on the colour/roles when he admitted he had not read the roles doc .
The number of votes sticking to him *for that one post * does give me pause.

I have always avoided wagons that seem too easy- (some games I later find out it was a wagon on a Scum- but the wagon didn’t need my vote to run either way.)
Votes that read" sounds good to me" and include a vote are suspect.
I have a few players that have made a post or two that don’t read right to me. but many of those same players have posted something else that rang true
conclusion: I have time and I am not casting a vote until I have supporting evidence ( as perceived by me) And I am paying attention.

I would ask everyone to consider what DiggitCamara wrote up thread, that a defense of player with very little evidence is more suspicious than a vote for a player with very little evidence. There is little evidence for any vote and everyone has to vote for someone, but not everyone has to defend someone.

It could be, yes. But that still doesn’t make you town. Scum will very often use real life as an excuse (true or not) to defend a lazy wagontrain “me too” vote without a hint of scum hunting. Combined with the fact that the above quote is only your 3 post of the entire game (one of those was the signup), it smells like lurker scum. Participate more when you can and make an effort to forward the town cause and I’ll reconsider my vote. But for now it stays.

I’m not sure how me being unconvinced that Colby’s “slip” is anything other than Colby being Colby means that I am somehow “defending” him. He very well might be scum, but The Slip, by itself is not something to convince me to vote for him.

I’d look at the two non-voters who sort of FOSed the situation early. In a game with two Scum teams, I wouldn’t be shocked if those two were made up of one of each. Stoking the fire while trying not to get themselves burned.

Seems early to being casting votes already on Day one. We’ve got players that haven’t posted at all in the game. I’m not a big fan of lynching the loud. We have to get discussion going and if we start voting players just because they post, the scum will have the advantage.

I do find Colby’s wording suspicious as well. And I thing the Durpclears are a bit to obvious.

But, I want to wait for more discussion before casting a vote.

-The “Slip up” does seem like that- a slip up. There are a minimum of 3-4 teams at play here. Even if you just go “Scum, 3rd Party, Town”, I tend myself to say Town vs. “Not Town”, but I will clarify the groups out for clarity’s sake. While the slip up is suspicious, I don think he’ll have a lot to say to defend himself other than the “Town vs. Not-Town” Defense. So the idea of this lynch is fair. I agree it’s better than a Policy Lynch, or a Lynch the Lurker vote currently. But I think there’s plenty more day to go.

@Pleonast – you keep talking about how we she discuss the scum roles instead of the town ones, but I haven’t seen you set a model for doing this yet. How would you envision this to take place? I mean, I read your last post and it looks perfectly reasonable right up until the point where I try to think how I would go about doing this, and I just draw a blank. I have every interest in helping townies to play the game in the way I think would be most beneficial to us to win. I don’t have the slightest interest in helping wolves to do the same, nor would any other townie, obviously.

So given it’s not a matter of discussing how best to use the scum roles, what is left? Warnings? Like if scum had a watcher or a redirector then certain night actions or certain claims might be problematic, but they don’t have roles like that. And even if they did, we’d still be saying what we want town roles to do.

I’m drawing a complete blank. What exactly did you have in mind, such that I can believe that all your seemingly well-intentioned words on this topic aren’t just hot air?

Also, I expect many more players to drop out and no-show. It happens all the time and with 55, now 54, roles, I expect a lot of missing players. The mods were smart to build in a waitlist rather than expand the game during signups, but still underestimated the rapid attrition of waning interest.

Yeah, but then they let everyone from the wait list into the game, leaving us without subs. This is definitely a concern, but not one we can do much about.

But it means that there is going to be a lot of carnage in this game. I think the fire is probably from the other team, or an arsonist. We do have 2 sets of scum in this game, so it’s safe to assume that each get a kill.

Obligatory disclaimer that all Town power roles should play their roles as they see fit, BUT… since Town has both Day and Night docs, seems like it would be wisest for the 7-shot protector Wizard to hold off until one of the other docs die, so that the Wizard can cover the phase that the late Doc worked in.

I think this like a football survivor pool. Don’t save too long because odds are you are going to die before long. Of course, got to find people worth using powers on.

2. The case on Colby is weak for such an early bandwagon .

3. Captain klutz’s “I’ve seen scum do this before so that means your scum” vote rankles me. Way too confident a tone for a day one vote.
