The ambien is kicking in. Got to go to bed this now. Will try Tuesday.
Okay, I’ve landed a bit:
On editing, I don’t like it, mostly because I feel it obfuscates things. I did edit Night 0, as things hadn’t really started yet, sue me. I’m not going to edit posts after a game starts. Normal Phase’s “you didn’t call me out, therefore FOS”-thing is silly, IMO.
On color – I’m not going to try reading anything into it yet, as I think it’s too early to amount to much. Maybe we have an arsonist, maybe not. No way to tell right now. Amount of bullets seem to correspond with town in the game, but it’s impossible to say how right now. Human bitemarks… Cannibal mods?
Patsy claim… Up to the patsy, to be honest. I can see reasons for and against. All results in lots of WIFOM.
Do I have any suspects yet? Not really. I have my eyes on a few, but I need to recollect myself a bit more and read up before I lay down a vote. It’s early in the game, no rush.
Bolding is mine.
@Colby11 - why did you phrase it like that? I’m genially confused here. To me (but English is not my first language so I might be wrong) I’d say on “our” team or on “the” team. But your team seems to indicate - at least to me - that is someone else’s team and not yours???
Anyone else feel free to comment as well - it might just be my grammar or even my gramma from the signup-thread confusing me here…
^ Just to add to that, I’m not sure how it makes any sense anyway.
“That is the beauty of Town, is that there is more than 1 player on your team.” I imagine that there are other teams with more than one player in this game, e.g. Mafia and Wolves. Also, they have the luxury of actually knowing who their team is so they can co-ordinate as a team, something which is harder to do for Town…
Unless I’m misreading.I’m also not a native english speaker.
I ask others: How many hours per day do/will you spend on this Game? For me, I may spend an average 2+ hours per calendar day and it isn’t nearly enough! (Part of my problem may be slow thinking, poor note-taking and work habits). I can afford the time because I’m retired, but many of you have jobs — How can you keep up?
I’m accused of inconsistency about Colby, so let me ask: What is my Scum motive? Do those voting me think Colby is my scum teammate? Or am I Scum seeking Town cred by jumping off the misLynch of a Townie? I don’t think either explanation makes sense. If Colby were NOT my Scum teammate, I’d be happy to let him fry: for one thing he might be on the other Scum team!
The reality is opposite. I honestly think that early bandwagons are anti-Town. If there were two Lynch candidates about whom I felt equally, I might vote the one with fewer votes just to maximize information eventually gained. I’ve done this before (and also attracted suspicion for this before).
I am presently suspicious of Lakai, Johnny Bravo, Colby11, and ToeJam. Later in the Day I will review the cases against whichever of those (or future suspects) is in Lynch contention and cast a final vote.
Yes, I am suspicious of Colby11 because of his weird phrasing. I equivocate because I don’t have a good model of why Scum used that phrasing. (If I did, I’d be leading the charge against Colby11 instead of making a weak vote and weak unvote.)
I think Miss Angel is alluding to the fact that my style often attracts votes when I’m Town. This does have the advantage that I don’t have to worry about being NightKilled (except by Town Vig
) — I’m much too easily misLynched for Scum to waste a Kill on me.
The threads of this many-player Game are going to be so huge that I wanted to minimize my postings so I don’t contribute to the hugeness, but I do answer questions, or self-defend when voted.
A year and a half ago (That long? Has time sped up dramatically? Is this an effect of the Dark-Energy Era??? :smack: ) I played in a Mafia Game here at SDMB. I was fairly active Day 1 and ended up Lynched. Johnny Bravo started the wagon against me in that game, first with a FOS, later with a vote. He turned out to be Scum: That’s why I’m keeping a suspicious eye on his FOS’ing in this game. In the Game where I was misLynched Day 1, I was the Town Doctor. The votes against me came during the final minutes (there was a 6-6 tie at 11:57); I claimed Doctor with about 2 minutes to spare, but wasn’t rescued. (Town did end up winning the game; I don’t know if the misLynch record against me helped.)
In Mafia Reunion, End-of-Day comes at 3 AM my time, and I will not be on-line to claim and avoid misLynch. If you guys do decide to misLynch me please get your votes down early enough for me to respond.
I tried to explain this above. BTW, the tactic of removing my vote from the Lynch leader to get more information for Town is something I picked up from watching you play! (Though my understanding of the reasons for your voting patterns may very likely have been flawed.)
I like your theory here but how do you adapt that to their being two scum teams?
[/QUOTE]
Multiple scum teams makes no difference. Even with one scum team, scum will happily vote for an apparent slip. They will also vote for a genuine slip (yes, if they see a teammate slip they will vote for them. I am speaking from experience).
In this case I think it is likely that scum from both teams is on this wagon, regardless of Colby’s alignment.
Making a weak vote, and then unvoting for weak reasons, is scummy all by itself. It does not actually depend on Colby’s alignment.
Unvote ToeJam

Okay Colby, this phrasing does look odd. What thought process leads to calling the Town “your team”?
That I totally understand. Suspicion withdrawn.
I don’t know your “style” so I’m just going to have go by what you post, and this is a pretty lackluster defense. I’m not important, so I’m not going to bother to defend myself?
Vote Colby11
You are accused of lurking, and your reply is that you only lurk when you have a valid strategic reason. Oookay.
I don’t think the “your team” thing is weird at all. I viewed it as the general you. I would tend to phrase it that way, too. “That is the beauty of Town, is that there is more than 1 player on our team” would sound really weird to my ears.
Like the arsonist post, this strikes me as such a weird thing to say. He has information that “possibly” you’re not on his team? A scum knows who is on their team.
After typing that, I see another way to read it, but it requires me to torture the sentence a little. Which makes me realize that I might be being influenced by people saying things like “So-and-so posts like this” and “Such-and-such posts like that.”
So… you MEANT to post it in this thread, and only caught the mistake after the fact. But then you decided not to mention your mistake because you didn’t want to get caught up in the discussion over here. Even though you meant to post it here in the first place?
Okay. I’m willing to accept that your logic runs a tortured circle but that it was an innocuous mistake.
I still maintain that posting in old threads is inherently anti-town since it muddies the timeline.
@ Meeko –
From another site, a completed game where I was town.
Here is me using the term wolf: Completed: Very Scary New Year's Party - Page 2
And here is my very next post, using the term scum: Completed: Very Scary New Year's Party - Page 2
Of note is that this was a three faction game, with wolves, vampries and townies. I was using both wolf and scum to describe any anti-town player, just like I am now. Can we drop this now? It’s ludicrous.
I need your thoughts on the few you have your eyes on more than your vote. As a catch-up post, this one doesn’t thrill me. It’s very generic and avoids the main goal of the game, which is hunting scum.
Yeah, it’s definitely just grammar this time, Colby’s phrasing is common.
**DAY ONE VOTE COUNT
As a quick reminder - there are no powers, hidden or open, that can affect the vote count. If you see an apparent discrepancy, it’s the result of moderator error.
colby11 (8 votes) - Texcat (91), Guiri (101), Meeko (130), ToeJam (132), Hockey Monkey (152), Lakai (154), Suburban Plankton (162), Hawkeye(350)
ToeJam (3 votes) -), Sunny Daze (113), Hooker Chemical (184), sinjin (200)
septimus (5 votes) Enderw24 (243) , total lost (273), normal phase (322), Colby(335), Captain Klutz(347)
Normal Phase (2 votes) - Johnny Bravo (36), Pleonast (241)
Lakai (2 votes) - (inner Stickler 257, snfaulkner 295),
PLAYERS WITH 1 VOTE:
Meeko (Drain Bead - 94), Drain Bead (Angel - 97), jsgoddess (Chronos - 183), hawkeyeop (Boozahol Squid PI - 188), Captain Klutz (Hoopy Frood - 195), Johnny Bravo (bufftabby 259), snfaulkner (diggitcamera 264)
By my reckoning, Colby would be lynched if the vote did not change. Day 1 has only one lynch available, so only the top vote-getter will be lynched. **
One of the most famous lines in American speechifying uses this construction.
“Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.”
Unless… my god - JFK was a secret Communist the whole time!
I understand that and when I’m able process and coherently share my thoughts I will oblige.
Meta/OOG: In general I’ve become a lighter player than when I began playing, usually becoming more involved as a game progress. Reasons for this are oog, due to some things that happened during 2016 I’ve been having problems with cognition, though it’s getting better.
Ugh. I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. I refuse to even look at or consider this kind of evidence.
Agreed - it’s invasive, mildly creepy, and 100% ineffective in terms of being actual data.
