I hit “post” instead of “preview” humble apologies for formatting and editing errors on that monster of a post. I feel I have popped my Mafia cherry with that one.
If it’s TL;DR for the lot of you, could you just skim to the question at the end? I would really appreciate input on my vote. Note sure about how the shenanigans go at the End of Day.
And we have many brilliant players who excel as provoking useful statements from others. I am not one of those, and have never been. It eludes me. Nonetheless, I will go back over D1 (and N0 if time permits) on Saturday, and should have something reasonable to use as a vote for EoD.
I don’t remember taking note of the soft claim when I voted Septimus. When I unvoted him, I had seen some posts talking about him claiming, but I was under the impression that was all about Total Lost pushing on the soft claim. I didn’t notice the hard claim until after I had unvoted him. If you isolate my posts, you will see me noticing it.
As an aside, I find it interesting (really interesting, not “interesting”) that you have sachertorte and CK looking suspicious here and Hoopy Frood not, because based on what I have read I’d have put all three of them as the exact opposite. I’ll have to take note of them when I try to finish catching up tonight/tomorrow.
I am going to try never again to miss such big chunks of the conversation, because going back through days-old posts is brutal and I dislike it intensely.
I guess the real test on SP will be whether or not he moves his vote back to Colby if that proves necessary near end of day.
Usually a person with a true counterclaim will counterclaim. A minority of players will try to fancy it up for one reason or another.
As a rule I prefer two wagons to one (and three wagons to two, and four to three, and …). It gives more information later. You can always move your vote to Colby very late in the day if you find him to be more scummy when it comes right down to it.
For the moment, place your vote on whichever one you feel is most likely to be Scum. As the End of Day gets closer, eventually we’ll reach a point where you might consider moving your vote to one of your “second place candidates” if your first choice is obviously not going to be lynched, but personally I don’t think we’re at that stage yet… But there’s nothing inherently wrong with leaving a vote on a “losing” candidate; at the very least it’s part of the voting record, and that fact may pay dividends down the line.
Yes, I suppose that will be the test.
Of course, unless another candidate presents themselves, it may not come down to that. If **Colby **doesn’t come back to the game before Dusk, odds are that the current voting margin stays or grows larger, and my vote will not be needed. And if Colby does come back and makes a claim, it may well be that everyone will unvote him, and again, my vote will not be needed.
In fact, I stand a pretty good chance of being able to skate through the rest of the Day with my vote right where it is.
That’s what it looked like from you. FWIW, I’ve had a Town-leaning read from you all game, but I always think you’re Town because our play styles are very similar and we agree on a lot.
Which is why I’m amused that we came to the opposite conclusion on our reads from the septimus situation. Can you elaborate on why you find CK Townie and HF not?

Sometimes its best to leave your votes on an one off to give a record for later that isn’t so hard to find. Last game I played I voted one off and that one off ended up being the last scum standing! Why are you pressuring for Drain to move his vote?
side bar re: the difference between here and Giraffe Boards.
with the robot we have the advantage of being able to access the vote/unvote records of all players. Here- in this game- unvotes are not being tallied.
the practice of voting your strongest scum lean " for the record" and later changing to your next best candidate for lynch.
Is not officially recorded. where ever your final vote of the Day lands * is the only fact that is ‘on the record’ *
Dear Diary,
Do you think NAF likes me? He’s ever so helpful! Not like that doodoo head Mahaloth. Why does he write in that awful doodoo brown text? What a doodoo head! And what happened to storyteller? Did the other two lock him in a cage? Do they force him to rub lotion on its skin lest they turn the hose on him? Anyway, I have to and do homework reading about petty issues about wolves a Mafia and slips and whatnot.
Until later,
-Nate
This might be meh, like Normal Phase says, but I’m still intrigued. Not enough to change my vote yet though. But l have taken note of it for future consideration.
I think you are doing great so far. Especially for this monster game.
I’ve seen fake claims by both town and scum win games (angel’s done both). However, I’ve rarely ever seen a counterclaim, and then only later in the game. So I’m kinda curious about the myself.
You mentioned something about EoD shenanigans, but I seemed to have accidentally deleted that part of your quote. But anyway, EoD craziness is either the most fun to be had in mafia, or the worst. I can’t decide which. Although trying to participate in EoD on my phone is certainly awful.
One offs are a good place for scum to hide at the end of the day. You can semi-bus a scumfellow or stay out of the way of tipping the vote onto a scumbuddy, depending on how circumstances lie.
I don’t think that it’s necessarily best to insist that people join one of the top targets, but unless you have a good reason, it’s more helpful to see which case a player prefers amongst the more likely targets. Especially early on, when all we have are hunches and wild accusations.
It’s not just that people are wrong. There were people on that list who looked more Town than not on that list of voters (Hoopy Frood), people who were in the middle (Pleo and NP), and people who looked scummy on the whole (you, and CK to a greater degree). It’s all about the vote analysis, vote timing, and the general feel of the arguments, which is why I decided to analyze it in depth.
It’s not about being wrong on a wagon. Shit happens. (And it’s not guaranteed anyone is wrong, although absent a counterclaim I’m willing to give septimus the benefit of the doubt for now.) It’s more about how the wagon came to be in the first place. Your defense, such as it is, is part OMGUS and part an attempt to stifle analysis of vote records. I’m not sure how else to find Scum if I can’t look at the votes on a claimed Town power role and see what looks hinky.

It’s pretty easy to find scum in case three, though I highly doubt you vote for them.
This is utter BS. Players have a right not to trust, you especially. You just admitted you falsely claim, whether you are town or scum, if it suits you. Are you a special case?:dubious:
All of it is “on the record”, in the sense that the posts containing the votes still exist and are available for anyone to see. Everyone is welcome to keep track of all votes and unvotes, and everyone else is free to check their work. And I know that I, at least, will certainly be tracking such.
