Mafia Reunion - Day One

I usually vote day one based on “tone” – something that feels off, or self-conscious, or forced in one way or another. Often it’s difficult to explain, the kind of thing that when you’re right, the mafia player you nailed is all like “your reasons sucked, I was no different than I always am!” But then somehow you got it right anyway.

Sometimes you can get someone based on faulty logic, some flaw in the way they’re thinking or playing. Sometimes you can get them for being too ‘sheepy’, just copying other players’ reads and going with the flow to try to avoid controversy. Some scum player will avoid reads almost entirely because they have trouble making up false cases – that may be less common in a game like this one, but could still happen.

In the end, you guess. Some people are better at it than others.

Yeah, that is a bit of a problem.

Your post was non-substantive and it was Night 0. Calling me out for not calling you out is like saying a police officer is a dirty cop for not arresting a kid with a water gun.

It looks to me like you were fishing for a reason to find somebody scummy. Either for jumping on you about your editing (“come on guys, I was clearly joking here, what kind of person votes based on an obvious joke post?”) or for not jumping on you about your editing (which is what you did).

Unrelated, but this is neat.

I disagree with the 1st paragraph. Town Powers might want advice, but can’t ask for it directly. Yes, Scum might try to give bad advice but their bad advice will be attacked and put themselves in jeopardy.

The 2nd paragraph may be good advice, but runs the risk of alerting Scum to countermeasures we may try.

The 3rd paragraph seems odd given that off-thread communication is allowed at all times. Cautious players will refresh their private chatrooms before posting in-game. So it sounds like Pleonast is talking about a Wolf trying to send a message to a Mafia, or vice versa. Is that right? It still seems very odd. With so many players it’s more likely that a different player would see the secret message than it’s intended recipient.

All in all, this post by Pleonast seems weird enough to merit an early loose vote.

I never said that only scum will edit - and even pointed out that the mods edit. To subtle implicate that mod-editing is prove that it’s not a scum-tell alone.

But - having pointed that out - to me editing IS trying to hide or remove something posted. No matter what that something was. It might be a “harmless” code-fix. But what ever it was - editing is concealing the original post from other players.

I do think the last 100 post or so of N0 is part of this game. And I for one might quote from the thread D1 and ask some players about their actions in the Night.

I was thinking rather the same. And that is why I’d like others with their eyes on Squid to at least comment on ToeJam. As I think what they did was roughly the same mechanism. Only ToeJam gave me the biggest of the pings too.

Seemed a bit too quick to sound townie.

Looked a bit to me like some players just seemed to ignore it - after having called Squid on it. But that might be because those players didn’t return yet. So I would very much like to hear, if they didn’t see similarities in the actions or if they have others views on this matter than mine.

So you no longer feel that Squid was suspicious?

Why do you want to make a random vote?

None of the additions made it into the game. Only the first list you posted is playing

**unvote: Normal
vote: Colby

Bolding mine, above. This phrasing really stood out for me. I would have said, I think the fire is probably from one of the scum teams, or an arsonist. But Colby says* the other team*. It sure sounds like he’s on one of the scum teams to me.

As others have said, Day 1 (especially early Day 1) is a dart throw. Logic would require data we don’t have yet, and may come to play in future Days, but not this one. There are many fine players whose method of play is to attack and see how the person reacts to the attack. This information may be helpful but is seldom conclusive. I suck at this method, myself, and usually go with light fluff on the first Day and see who gets really upset at it.

THIS game, however, has 54 players at the moment, and there is simply no room for that much fluff, especially since we have another week to go in Day 1. Which is why I won’t be posting as often as I usually do. (I also favor Lynch the Lurker, but that shouldn’t come into play until very late in the Day.)

Attacking others does often produce some targets for voting. This creates a voting history which is relevant in future Days. (In fact, IMHO, voting history is probably the best source of data to make decision.) Expect more attacks. Prepare to be attacked. Watch how people react. If you feel like it, attack someone yourself.

These two portions of your post seem a bit contradictory when you put them right next to one another. Day One votes are fairly irrelevant when you’re trying to figure out if someone is Town, but can be highly useful if you’re trying to locate Scum. I think the first portion of your post is ignoring the fact that we have two Scum teams (and some Masons, natch) who have knowledge of one another. That’s not in the sky at all, and there are some important things to be gained from looking at Day One votes later in the game, as more information is gained and subtle patterns can be discerned. If someone tries hard on Day One to divert attention away from another person, later on if that person is revealed to be an important Scum role, it is definitely worth looking into the person who managed to get a different bandwagon going on Day One.

I haven’t finished the thread yet, so I’m not voting on this yet. Just wanted to point it out.

After having read the rest of the thread, especially the exchange between Meeko and Johnny Bravo (which actually makes both of them look suspicious, as it’s a lot of sniping noise without much substance), I’m comfortable with a vote on this one.

I missed that in my reading. But I do agree - strange way to phrase it indeed.

I’m here. The Night Zero thread got too overwhelming so I didn’t read it, and then I just remembered to come back now.

The sum of his posts indicate busyness to me rather than sincerity.

Oh that’s what you meant, in comparing them. I’m suspicious of both ToeJam and Boozy, but neither was for that reason.

Is Boozy Squid the same person or a different person from Flying Squid on Giraffe?

Her. And I’m typically a low-volume poster.
