I was thinking rather the same. And that is why I’d like others with their eyes on Squid to at least comment on ToeJam. As I think what they did was roughly the same mechanism. Only ToeJam gave me the biggest of the pings too.

Seemed a bit too quick to sound townie.

Looked a bit to me like some players just seemed to ignore it - after having called Squid on it. But that might be because those players didn’t return yet. So I would very much like to hear, if they didn’t see similarities in the actions or if they have others views on this matter than mine.

Yes, I agree that Toejam’s statement is suspicious in the same way that Squid’s is, and is actually more egregious. Good catch.

I have a hard time putting too much confidence in slips like Colby’s might be - at least in part because I did something in the last game that was just simply me being dumb and having a dumb moment. Granted alcohol was involved, but meh. I enjoy my sleuthjuice.

Colby is a more experienced player than I am (by rather a lot) but having been cast under a strong FOS for wording something badly - I just can’t get behind a “It’s a slip!” vote right now. Sometimes you word something badly and don’t realize how it comes across.

The day still has a lot of time to it, and I don’t like D1, anyway. It tends to be a bunch of random votes. Ill just keep pondering and thinking, I guess. For now.

2. me too? You say that your play style is to jump all over any real or imagined scum assignment. You are certainly verbose. Too me, as I said, it just seemed over the top, especially for a Day 0 when we didn’t even all have our roles yet.

I may yet change my vote, but I’m not seeing anything to sway me to do so, although Idle is being awfully quiet.

What do you make of it then? I haven’t made up my mind entirely yet. But I am very puzzled at the way it was phrased. So I’d very much like to hear how others read it.

I don’t know how I read it exactly and am not going to answer for Colby either. Just that in the last game I played, someone literally said something along the lines of “this is how I would play as town” and actually was town, then in another game someone talked about a potential flip in a way that made sense only if the person talking knew absolutely the player would flip town – that guy was town too (and vanilla, not a detective or anything). So the entire category of such slips is pretty null for me right now.

Thoughts on voting at this time. Not much to make of it.
–I can see where the worry over a “bandwagon” - can come about, as the votes quickly came in for Colby11- accumulating 3 votes of 6 cast in a period from post #91-106 (about 2 hours from around 840am to 10:38am), but that could be the nature of people getting up and actively posting at that time.
–The other high activity period was early on- the first 3 votes cast in posts 36,37, and 41. Again, too early for a pattern. But it’s data none the less.
–Total votes cast so far is 10, with plenty of suspicions abound. Do I think there’s a scum vote or two in those 10 votes, certainly. But can I say which one just yet? Not sure which one it is. I will say of the two votes on me, both are similar arguments (Variants on "he’s too pro-town"arguments), Klutz- I’m more familiar with having played games with (and the crappier argument), while **Sunny **is a bit unfamiliar to me, and went for a Shakespearean one liner to vote for me after just quoting my post. It seems a bit too “me too”-ish of a vote.

-The slip up is an odd choice of words. His defense is likely to be “Town vs. other team is all else”, but this early into the game Slip Ups are better than policy votes and poke votes or lurker/random votes and I think will def. foster discussion and it will be interesting to see how the votes go down afterwards.

What he said is just weird to say, in many ways. He’s analyzing color. The mayor was “shot 37 times, eviscerated, and burned.” Dante G had “36 bullet holes and some serious burns and something that seemed suspiciously like teeth marks. Human teeth marks. Clearly none of the forces in Doperville were capable of this.”

But Colby speculates that “the fire is probably from the other team, or an arsonist.” What? First, why single out the fire? Second, which of the scum teams? Is this a scum tell? And who then is responsible for the gunshots and the human teeth marks?

I was struck by how meaningless that post was, especially when followed by a claim that he hasn’t even read the roles yet. The roles are out. He knows that, yet he’s speculating about color?

In general, someone making a point of saying that they haven’t read things drives me crazy. Why participate before knowing what there is to be known publicly? That makes me think of someone looking for a way to hedge bets and to look like they are participating. So, am I just irritated because that always strikes me as weaselly (even in non-Mafia posts), or do I think that’s scummy? That’s what I haven’t decided yet.

Yeah. Just a shout out to one of my fav. Mafia players. It’s purely an OOG shoutout, and not related to this game. More of just a for them. If you need the story behind it… well you can ask Geady himself or just read Arkham.

I’m aware of Gasterds. Just wasn’t sure… How much attention to ultimately pay to it, for this game.

But I have been in games where Scum did slip and post without thinking things through.

To say a potential slip proves Scum is silly. To say it might indicate Scum in not IMHO.

To say a slip will never be an indication of potential Scum makes little to no sense to me.

That kind of slip, something where someone is clearly posting on the wrong board, is one thing. Something that’s based solely on word choice is quite another, and is probably a null tell, at least based on my experience.

It is apparent that based off the color from Night 0 and Day 1,we have 36 townies, 4 3rd parties, and 14 non-town players. Nice catch to whomever caught it Night 0.

But it means that there is going to be a lot of carnage in this game. I think the fire is probably from the other team, or an arsonist. We do have 2 sets of scum in this game, so it’s safe to assume that each get a kill.

I also need to check out the roles available to see what powers we are working with. I hate playing on my phone. Cheese out

The silly edits were just that. Silly. But calling somebody scummy for ignoring your obvious night 0 silliness is suspect as hell.

I agree with you that the edits were silly. Being miffed about edits is silly, and being miffed at others not being miffed at edits was also silly. The entire editing fiasco is silly. But in what way is any part of it ‘scummy?’ What angle is Normal Phase playing to advance the scum agenda? I get that you disagree with Normal Phase, but how does that translate to “Normal Phase is probably scum?”

I disagree with the 1st paragraph. Town Powers might want advice, but can’t ask for it directly. Yes, Scum might try to give bad advice but their bad advice will be attacked and put themselves in jeopardy.

The 2nd paragraph may be good advice, but runs the risk of alerting Scum to countermeasures we may try.

The 3rd paragraph seems odd given that off-thread communication is allowed at all times. Cautious players will refresh their private chatrooms before posting in-game. So it sounds like Pleonast is talking about a Wolf trying to send a message to a Mafia, or vice versa. Is that right? It still seems very odd. With so many players it’s more likely that a different player would see the secret message than it’s intended recipient.

All in all, this post by Pleonast seems weird enough to merit an early loose vote.

I’m of the Normal Phase school of thought on Scum slips. This one seemed fairly straightforward to me, and actually a bit town-leaning. If you’re town, literally everyone else is on “the other team”. If Colby turns out to be Town, there’s a lot of info to be gained on the early attempt to force a bandwagon here. It feels forced to me. There are a lot of “me, too” type of votes.

I have a strong recollection about a game discussion about ‘slips’ and how often they wind up being nothing a follow-up discussion about how the person that points out a ‘slip’ is often scum. I want to say that discussion was with you, Drain Bead. Do you remember it? So by that pattern matching, that would make TexCat suspicious.

About the Colby fiasco, I see why there is heat on him, but I’m not sure I’m convinced by it yet. I’ve known Colby to parse his posts a bit…differently than I would have chosen. It doesn’t make him scum necessarily, but it does make him seem scummy more often than he actually is.
