Thanks Mahaloth. Can you send to Septimus too?
I agree with Angel about Idle. Unfortunately, it’s a case that is based 100% on metagaming…but if I had survived into the Day, I might have made it myself. I actually spent part of the Night trying to decide if it would be “proper” to make the same argument.
Of course, I always seem think Idle is Scum - and he always thinks I am - and we’re usually both wrong…
Just thinking here…
Brewha says his switch PM specifically says “Off to On.” The rules say the switches are simple toggles. Combining the two:
-
Night falls and all switches go to On. Brewha flips his and the switch goes to Off. The other switch holder does nothing and the switch stays off.
-
(Assuming the other switch is labelled “Off to On”) As above, but the other switch holder thinks Brewha might have used his switch and therefore uses his. Brewha flips his first and turns the switch off; the other person then flips his and then turns the switch back on.
-
As above, but they flip in the opposite order. The other switch holder thinks he’s turning it back on, but as it’s a simple toggle he actually turns it off, and then when Brewha tries to turn the switch off he instead toggles it back on.
In 3, the switches work like the light in a room with switches at both ends. Both switches start in the On position (up for American switches, down for British). Someone turns the light off. Now if someone flips the other switch – which is still in the On position – to the Off position, it actually turns the light back on. In other words, the switches act as advertised only if the switch is in the correct status at the time of switching; if it isn’t, they work the opposite way.
Hmmmm…
Obviously the mods are not going to tell me if I’m right or wrong (unless I go to the spoiled thread), but what do other people think?
I have been thinking that this is just one of those things that I don’t understand because I haven’t played, but I’m glad to see that other people are confused, too.
The way I understand it, brewha can only switch Batman from on to off, which is contradictory to the “simple toggle” explanation like light switches. So I’m hopelessly lost. I’d like to eventually play in one of these games, so I’m trying like hell to figure out all the various rules. I’m an intelligent person*. I wouldn’t think it would be this hard.
- An intelligent person who was unaware that the default British light switch “on” position is down. That fact is going to fuck me up all day.
This is a more complicated than normal game. It’s that way on purpose because it’s a reunion game. We have explained the switches as much as we are going to. A little logical thought clears everything up.
I only knew about it because Uncle Sam sent me to Scotland for a few years.
Is it flipped for left to right switches as well? In my mind, though my mind is often wrong, pointed left means off and pointed right means on. Is this the same throughout Britain or reversed?
I’m glad I’m not in the game, because this is the kind of smudging that gets a town player lynched, buuuuut… it feels like a lot of players are more interested in looking helpful than hunting scum.
Like who?
I’m pointing a big fat FOS at **Chronos **for attempting to direct the AU Batman’s actions toNight.
**I need help doing vote counts this week. NAF is away all week and Storyteller has not been around to help mod. I have a private google document that I can open up to a person who is willing to help.
Any helpers available?**
**I’ll go further. If someone would like to co-mod for about a week, I could use some help behind the scenes as well.
It’s all manageable, but I could use the help. If you are interested in modding, it’d be a way to find out what it is like behind the scenes.

Did you try pming Story? You want me to hit him up on Facebook m
No, but if he is busy too(he seems so), I wouldn’t mind some additional help this week.
If you need an assistant mod, I can help. PM me here. I’ll try to check back later.
Scenario:
‘A’ is the #1 vote-getter.
No Lynch is the #2 vote-getter, with 36% of the available votes - qualified for second lynch.
‘B’ is the #3 vote-getter, with 12% of the available votes - qualified for third lynch.
Does the No Lynch vote in second place prevent the third lynch, even though ‘B’ qualifies for it? Or does ‘B’ still get lynched?
Addressed in game. No Lynch does not count as a second lynch. And if it wins, it cancels both it and the second or third lynch.
What if No Lynch is tied with a player for first place – is the player lynched, does No Lynch take precedence and cancel the lynch, or does random.org choose (as with a tie between two players)?
Random chance, like any other tie.
I’m debating whether I want to be spoiled or not. On the one hand, if I stay unspoiled, then I can’t fairly and honestly voice suspicions of any player other than those I’ve already done so for, because there are people who I specifically don’t suspect no matter what they say (in other words, anyone I voice suspicion of is logically not a Mason).
On the other hand, I’ve been working on an upgraded version of my vote-analysis program, and planned to deploy it once we had a few Days worth of data. I could still use that, leave out my knowledge of who the other Masons are, and post results without commentary, because I’m genuinely curious how well it’ll do.
On the gripping hand, to do that properly, I need to track not only votes, but FOSes, which means I’d still be shackled into reading the entire thread.
For what it’s worth, I stopped using the previous version of that program because I found that even though it usually worked, highly-skilled Scum players could still defeat it. I was going to use it anyway this game because, first, with so many Scum, there were bound to be a few who weren’t skilled enough, and second, because I’m convinced that there’s no way that a puny human can actually track a game that’s this large.
