Mandalorian Season 2 Thread [Open Spoilers]

Also, wasn’t Mando pretty much slaughtering the good guys this episode?

I think the idea was that it checks your face against the wanted database.

He called them pirates and they were going to be killed if they didn’t fight back. However, they did seem to be more like rebels fighting off the empire. Life doesn’t seem to have much value in the Star Wars universe.

I loved this episode and I love this show. I think this is the best Star Wars we’ve had since the original movies.

Mando seemed to be disassociating from his own body when he was forced to take off the helmet. If not for Mayfeld, he would have been screwed.

I love having Boston representation In Space. All Mayfeld was missing while he was driving the truck was a Dunks cup. Maybe a Parliament and an askew Red Sox hat. I mean, he honked at the villagers and drove at erratic speeds and everything.

I assume next week is the season finale if we go by S1’s count.

This was a kill or be killed circumstance, but “pirates” are generally interested in stealing cargo, not destroying it. (Unless they are looking to set up a protection racket against Empire forces?)

I was a little surprised that Mayfield opted to stay on that planet. They could have maybe have dropped him off somewhere that is NOT an Imperial outpost where you just shot up a few dozen people including a high ranking officer? I had him counted as one of the seven! Opens up a spot it does.

I don’t think he was disassociating, but just that he had no idea of Imperial protocols or terminology, and is terrible at lying and fast talking. He had no idea what the Imp was even asking him for when he asked for his designation, and he just froze up when the Imp asked him personal questions because he just couldn’t think up plausible lies on the spot.

Having him and Fennec would have given them two snipers, but it also would have given them an untrustworthy fast talker, which would seem to slot in.

It seems obvious that they should have seven samurai/gunfighters, but that’s just a fan assumption that they’re going for that reference. They could just go with the team they have. In the Season 1 finale, they only had four - Mando, Cara Dune, Greef Karga, and IG-11 (five if you count Kuiil).

By the way, its also interesting to me that they seem to be expanding their cinematic references. The Mandalorian is very much a spaghetti western in space, and most of the first season seemed to direclty reference those tropes.

But this season, the Ahsoka episode seemed to be referencing chanbara movies (although I’m not familiar enough with the genre to identify if they referenced any particular movies). This episode seemed to be deliberately referencing The Wages of Fear and the semi-remake Sorcerer with the transport full of unstable explosive cargo in a jungle, and the officer’s mess scene seemed to take a lot of inspiration from Inglourious Basterds.

Ach. The Fett line of “I was aiming for the other one.” is virtually word for word from the movie’s “I was aiming for the horse.” It would disappoint to not follow through. In the movie several of the heros died … I could stand them killing off Cara Dune (because she’s boring, not because the actor is a Trumpist). Mayfield would have been a reasonable red shirt too. Who of who is there or likely to be there can be killed off if they follow through with that part of the homage?

Bobba Fett restored his armor. It was trashed in the previous episode, wasn’t it? I wonder how long that took and how he did it.

I’m kinda disappointed he did it. It looked cooler all scuffed up.

Lady Snowblood, apparently. Which was also referenced by Tarantino’s Kill Bill.

Great episode! One of the things I liked best was they actually had a competent, well thought out plan. Fire support/snipers and an airborne rescue… and it worked! Nice to see.

And poor pirates/freedom fighters… but Mando isn’t going to hold back when his baby is at stake.

His armor is beskar like Mando’s, what’s on top is just paint. He just gave it a new paint job.

On the way to this episode’s planet? Or are we believing they did not go straight here. I love the episode, but my 10-year old son was pointing it out right away.

I guess so? there’s gotta be some down time on the trips we just don’t see. It’s just a paint job, couldn’t have been that long. Dude’s been searching for his armor for a while, I can believe he’d put some TLC to it when he got it.

I liked Boba’s line “Let’s just say they might recognize my face.”

I, too, noticed and wasn’t a fan of the new paint job. I was joking with Mrs. Cups that they want to find Baby so badly, but had enough time to stop by Space Sherwin-Williams. Not to mention, it made him look way more badass when it was all scuffed. In all seriousness though, I bet Boba had the paint/touchup material on the Slave I already and just needed to find his armor.

I’m so bummed next week is the last of the season
