Hello, stranger!
I’m off school until the 11th! Wheeeeeeeee!
I think the exam went well, we’ll see. There was an exercise in pronouns which I ended up doing “by feel,” because although the teacher did explain which ones are for the direct object and which for the indirect and which order they follow, when I tried to parse the grammar I went back to thinking in Spanish. Since doing a few previous exercises “by feel” worked well and parsing not-so-well, I guess my “thought French” isn’t that bad - at least for pronouns, my vocabulary sucks. Oh, and I managed to do the imparfait right (I think) despite Catalan’s usual attempts at interference (“it’s not jo vaig, it’s j’ai!”). Mangled the conditionnel, but at least there was only one of those.
The procedure for handing in the exam was kind of complicated, compared with what I’m used to. There were simultaneous exams for half a dozen subjects in the same hall, with seats preassigned; by the time you get there, the papers you’ll need are already in place. I would have thought that with such an arrangement one of the things they would do is scatter the students from each subject, to avoid instances of “long eyes,” but no, we were grouped up. First we had to fill in a piece of paper with some info (it was picked by the proctors, only they were called something else), we got the exam and these “answer books”, but in our case we were to write the answers on the exam itself, then we had to fill in more info on the cover of the answer book and inside a self-sticking flap it had, and tie the exam to the book with a bit of rubber they’d provided.
Did I say I’m now done until the 11th? Yes I did. Wheeeeeee!
{{Pie}} I had hives for the first time just about a year ago, and it sucked BIG TIME. Hope you’re doing better.
Yay for vacation, Nava!
Glad you got to your new home safely, gotti! And welcome back. Good luck settling in.
FCM, thanks for the idea in my knitting thread. I think I may try that. Sounds simple and efficient.
We had a work happy hour last night (just a group of coworkers, not an official work event), but the place we went was packed, and a few people couldn’t find a place to park so just went home instead. I saw my old boss (now VP) park in an adjacent office parking lot so I did too. It was at least 5:30 by then so I don’t think there was anyone left in the office to notice or care. At least my car didn’t get towed so all’s well that ends well. Good time.
Our official work holiday party was last Firday at the zoo. (I think I already mentioned that… can’t remember for sure and not going to look.) I didn’t win anything, but I didn’t try either. They had tickets that you turned in for chips that you then used for the casino night to get more chips which you then turned back in for different tickets to enter raffles for the prizes. Too complicated for me, and I don’t gamble so I wouldn’t have gotten very far in the process anyway. Oh well. New Coworker won a RC cooler. Yes, that’s right, if you’re too lazy, you can get a remote-controlled beer cooler so you can drive it around to all your friends to distribute the beer without getting off your lazy ass. :dubious:
Tonight’s a coworker-friend’s xmas party. Tomorrow we give blood. Then a late lunch with a friend at a Polish place. Then I have to get ready for my family’s imminent arrival on Tuesday. Going to be busy!
We’ve done Carowinds a couple times and it isn’t bad or great - more so-so. It is expensive (to us) and sort of like a rat maze ---- very hard to learn your way around. We asked an employee how to get to one point from another and after thinking it over a bit she told us to go to the trellis (between the two points) and ask someone there. Some of the best rides were at the “bottom” of the park in this small valley-like area - which becomes a giant heat sink in really clear skies. There are water fountains but sort of hidden.
Think slightly more Six Flags-ish than Great America with more design flaws.
For other possibilities check http://www.aceonline.org/links/
they have a list of all parks.
Yay, glad you and your DH made it to Carolina okay, Gotti. And just in time to hunker down for the snowstorm! LOL
{{{{CutiePie}}}}, I hope you’re feeling less itchy now. My daughter has eczema, so she is sympathetic with ya!
Speaking of her, she’s headed to pick up some meds for me (whew!), then to pick up SHARE later this afternoon and hopefully we’ll be settled in and all before the snow starts. Og, I hope this stuff will NOT be like they’re saying. …
Hi everybody! Today commences the beginning of my vacation!
Happy Birthday, MBG!!!
I cleaned the bathroom today! It didn’t take long - I don’t know why I put it off. Just lazy, I guess.
I put a brisket in the crockpot this morning, and the house smells, to quote a great philosopher, Yummerific! A brisket with two bottles of chili sauce and a package of onion soup mix. and sliced onions on the bottom, and a few whole cloves of garlic. That will be nice when we get back from the bar which we’re about to leave for. LOL - that was not very grammatical, was it?
We bought our baby Christmas tree, and got it straight in the stand and put lights on it. It awaits all the ornaments. I love pulling out all the “special” ornaments. I have one from 4th grade that I still put on the tree, and of course lots of my son’s decorations from when he was little. Makes me all nostlgic, and definitely puts me in the Christmas mood.
OYKW is swipin’ General Tso’s supper for dindin tonight. Good ain’t it CutiePie?
WB gotti! Glad y’all made it safe to Nawth Keerliner. Also glad you got out of that restroom. What’s the new homestead like?
In other news… I’m gettin’ a big whoppin’ two hunnert and fiddy dollah bonus. Ya know, though, right now, anything is good, right? I am told it shall be deposited into my checkin’ account along with the regular paycheck next week. We shall see.
Rebo the license plates are teh ! I shall try that brisket recipe. Sounds yum.
taxi a remote control beer cooler??? That’s like the jakiest thing evah!!!111 Who wouldn’t want one!
It really is a clever and elegant solution. I had a little ball chain thingie that I threaded thru my deck, and it worked perfectly!
My car reeks of sauerkraut. My stoopit crock pot fell over on the ride home. Thankfully, it was in a triple bag, but still some leaked. Most got on a removeable mat which I rinsed and sprayed with Resolve (best carpet cleaner in the world, IMHO) and it’s sitting till I rinse it again. We did our team pot luck today, but most of the team didn’t attend. We also were going to do the crazy gift exchange, but only 4 brought gifts (the 5th was an embarrassment, and the one who brought it chose it so no one else got it.) Anyway, I ended up with a couple of pliers that had swiss-army-like handles and built-in LED lights. Pretty cool.
St. Mary’s county is being threatened with 10-20 inches of that evil white crap that falls from the sky. ugh. SIL managed to snag the last two snow shovels from a local hardware store - to the tune of $25 each!!! But they are the nice ergonomic ones with the bent handles, so there’s that.
I expect we’ll be housebound all weekend. We will have to keep a pee path dug or poor Scruffy will disappear. She’s only about 7" or so at the shoulder.
Daughter is on the way home with her turtle - I’m gonna go get his tank ready, because I’m nice, dammit!
I just bought three tickets to see The Treasures of King Tut. For what they cost, I expect to be able to take home a small chunk of gold from an artifact of my choosing (or at a very minimum, a few threads from King Tut’s wrappings)… when did museums get so bloody expensive that it cost me nearly $100 for three people? Hmph. Mumsy Dearest better like it.
I’m glad you Southerners are getting some snow… it seems to be keeping it all away from us Canadianers, and that’s a good thing in my books.
OK, time to tidy up the house before dinnertime. I have cousins coming over for brunch tomorrow so’s we can scan photos to load up onto a digital frame for Grandmumsy Dearest, and I don’t want them to think I’m a slob (which I am, but I’d rather keep that little secret to myself)
So I was on my lunch break, standing outside having a smoke when the coffee truck backed into the driveway of the building next to mine. There’s been a new guy running the route recently, a large Italian guy. Today he appeared to be bringing some woman along for the ride, perhaps his wife, or a girlfriend or something. She was probably in her 40s, but had the gaunt, leathery, prematurely aged look of one who’d seen a more than a few needles in her time – and not the sort administered by a doctor or nurse.
Ordinarily he gets out of the truck to go into the side door of the building to let the workers know the truck’s here, but today the woman he brought along did it. Now, they were parked down just past their side door – further than he normally parks – which, from my vantage, is just out of view if I’m standing near the side door to my building, which is perpendicular to the side of the building in a small alcove. But I could see the side door to the other building, and so it was that I saw the woman pause at their side door, cast a look at the driver, and partially pull down the back of her grey track pants to reveal her boxer-clad ass, which she thoughtfully stuck out and wiggled playfully for him. Classy. I don’t think she thought I could see. I’m quite certain she didn’t realize there was a security camera on their building pointing at the door, nor that our building’s mirrored windows were only mirrored on the outside. Either way, I didn’t need to see that, especially not right after lunch.
Dentist appointment tomorrow. Really this time, since I watched her key the damn appointment. I’m not looking forward to it, but it needs to be done.
**gotti! ** I’m glad you both made it safely to your destination.
Damn, FCM! TEN TO TWENTY INCHES OF SNOW?! Glad it’s the weekend.
I am proud of myself (well, I was momentarily). I was going to type that I was all done with my Christmas shopping. However, I just now realized that I forgot one person’s gift. Arrrgh. I left the house at 11:00 this morning and just now got back. I am not going back out today. I have a raging headache and just don’t feel like it.
Sounds like a real classy broad there, Mindy.
Hope the itchies are better, Pie.
I’ve got to go find some Tylenol or something. It feels like someone has a vice grip on my head. I’m shaky too.
Welcome back, gotti! We were wondering when you’d be reporting back. Glad you made it safely. Hope everything’s going well and you’re getting settled in.
Had a nice lunch today and got some nice presents. Yay!
Gotta get some stuff cleaned up and then I think I’ll crawl into bed. Gotta go in to work for a while in the morning.
I hate to admit we haven’t done that one but we did do Jersey along the shoreline for the haunted attractions (I mean funhouses - not houses full of actual ghosts). It’s on our list but that darn boss of mine -------- he actually expects to see me at work now and then over the summer. Last year he rigged a milk carton with my picture on it; I took the hint. :smack:
They were, now they’re back. The doctor said it could take up to 10 days.
Welcome back, gotti. I’ve been thinking about you lately and wondering how you guys were doing. I’m glad you made it there safely.
It’s been kind of a crappy day here between the doctor’s appointment and work and then my car died. But fortunately it’s almost bedtime and tomorrow’s another day. Right?
**kopek **- your boss sounds like an unreasonable poopyhead. You may tell him I said so!
It hasn’t started snowing yet, but it is *cooooooooooold *out there. We’ve got a few nasty days ahead. Even if it doesn’t precipitate, it’s gonna be brisk. ugh. How long till spring?
I think I’ll go assume the knit position. I’ll see ya tomorrow, as long as we don’t lose power or cable. Think warm thoughts!
HRH’s fever of last week has mutated into the chesty, productive cough from hell. Unfortunately, Madam knows exactly what cough syrup looks like and tastes like and refuses to have anything to do with it! I have told her she can drink the medicine or not, but no whining if she refuses - is that too difficult a concept for a 2 year old (nearly 3 now!)?
