You really should see someone about that multiple personality problem.
You have the wrong ballgame. In this game, they don’t take the ball and go home, they just kick you out of the game. Afterall, it’s their ball field so they get to make the rules.

Now I read here, he was banned simply for being a jerk. To which I have a few questions:
(1) Which is it? Specific issue over this porn-link? Or is that twice as much information - was it the link iself or was it the porn itself? Or was it because he spent a lot of time being a jerk? It seems that one person here says one thing, while another says another.
I always maintained that, even though Melin was wrong, the authorities on this board did not handle the situation well at all. I guess they haven’t learned…
(2) Isn’t being a jerk a subjective thing? Yes, he was often caustic. But he also made some good points WHILE being a “jerk,” and often was not a jerk at all.
In fact, to be totally impartial about it, I saw several occassions where “enlightened” Dopers were total jerks to him when he posted something that was valid and not inflamatory, simply because of his reputation or previous flame wars. This is to be condoned?
(3) Whether you want to take EITHER reason for his termination, in BOTH cases you will find that others here are just as “guilty.”
Others have posted risque material. Others have posted links (and sometimes TO risque material). Others have certainly been jerks. Isn’t his dismissal all based on things which seem to have been selectively enforced?
Call me nutty, but this reeks of a personal vendetta against a chronic boat-rocker whose words and ideas went against the mainstream and were often worded in an inflamatory manner.
Since I kinda like the idea of different view points, and i am not prone to knee-jerk reactions to the way things are worded, I have a problem with this.
Does anyone else consider this 3rd person referencing slightly odd? Either that or C#3/M#7/etc is a professional athlete in real life thinking he is giving a postgame interview.
I don’t find it odd that he is referring to himself in the third person.
They booted the C#3 handle because… Well… I guess we don’t know yet. The administrators don’t seem to have their story straight yet.
They then booted the M#7 handle because… Well, a few mods said they wouldn’t do it because it was he, but since it was he, it was booted. Again, I must ask, don’t these moderators communicate on these things? Even a little?
So, of course, whatever new identity he has will refer to C#3/M#7 in the third person. Because he is getting booted no matter what… May as well deflect something and create even a little doubt so MAYBE th mods might wait a few more posts before he has to create ANOTHER identity…
The problem, to me at least, is that he posted a link to a business site where he would make money if people signed up. This is spam. I have zero tolerance for that. Anyone who intentionally posts spam should be booted immediately, as a severe warning the them and others.
That said, I have no problem with him coming back as Kontestant #3 or whatever. If someone who is kicked out for spamming posts another spam, they should be hounded like the vermin they are and deleted as soon as they are detected. I trust that C#3 will not make that mistake again.
“Happiness is nonetheless true happiness because it must come to an end, nor do thought and love lose their value because they are not everlasting.”
That’s the issue, isn’t it? You’re on a moderated board, you piss off the mods (for whatever reason), you get booted. Then you sing on with another user name and post some more.
'Course, there’s two choices there. You can either play by the rules and avoid pissing the mods off, or you make a scene because you think you shouldn’t have been kicked.
I too, hate spam, and have hapilly gotten MANY spammers to USENET in trouble with harsh forwards to their ISP’s and news posting service.
The post in question, however, was in a thread ABOUT people getting paid to surf the net, and he was showing his as an example.
If you send away for a catalog, do you consider it junk mail when it hits your mailbox?
And I maintain (in another thread) that SOME administrators say it was just because he was banned for “chronic violations of Rule #1, don’t be a jerk.” while others site this thread issue. Which is it?
I don’t know. Maybe it’s jerk-like to post spam. I would certainly think so.
I don’t mind posting links that show you how to get paid for surfing the web, particuarly on that particular thread. But I STRONGLY object to allowing ANY POSTER to make money off of the teeming millions. Chicago Reader and our sponsors excluded, of course, since they provide us with this board. I would have had no objection if he posted the link without his ID. If he had told people his ID # and had them sign up under it I would consider that wrong as well. If people can make money off this board we’re going to be buried in spam. I don’t want to allow even a teeny tiny foot in the door.
Satan, go to the thread linked above in Andros’ post. Martyr #7 made an argument, then Chieflaffitup supported him, then Martyr #7 was banned. I think they got rid of M #7 because he was using 2 screenname at once.
I saw those links before, C#3. I don’t object to posting business sites, just ones where the poster will get some benefit out of posting them, i.e., they are an employee or have their ID in the link.
Actually, Gaudere, the link was provided, and it showed HOW you could set it up to make C#3 money, but the link itself did not, upon being clicked, put money in his pocket. You had to follow specific instructions to reach that point AFTER you got to the link.
From what I’ve seen, anyway.
I am gathering information for the “Starr Report.” Anyone who has any can feel free to e-mail me privately at brian.oneill@bmge.com .
