It just required another step. If I had a site that sells products, I should not be allowed to hype it here, even if I won’t make any money unless people buy. It is a bad precendent to let people make money off this site. If it is detected, it should be expunged.
I don’t mind C#3 coming back as another name. I think I might even have missed him if he was gone. But I agree with the mods that he should have been booted. And he must never post spam again.

It’s their board, they can choose who posts here. Don’t like the rules? Leave.

Let’s see. Connie’s first post with his link has been up in MPSIMS, and is STILL up, for seventeen days now. Not only that, but he’s apparently signed up for these things through OpalCat (who has mentioned her All-Advantage on the board before, and linked to a page on her website that had her link, because that’s where I signed up under her :)). This is not to be slamming OpalCat, who I’m sure didn’t realize that she was doing anything wrong. Nor is it meant to be slamming C#3. This thread in GQ popped up AFTER the one in MPSIMS. If Connie simply repeated information that had been allowed in one thread only to see it pulled in another, I can see where his confusion stems from. I guarantee you that I’d be pretty pissed off if the same thing happened to me.

Well, Satan, the person behind the names Contestant #3 and Martyr #7 is the same person he was yesterday, and the week before, and the month before, except he’s been banned from the SDMB. So my opinion about him, whatever it is, isn’t going to be any different based on that one new piece of information. It’s irrelevant. I don’t decide to suddenly sympathize with or pity someone simply because they adopt a persecution complex.
Fact is, lots of people act like jerks around here at times, including me, but they also don’t make a habit of flinging shit at the people who operate the fucking board. This ain’t a communist concern, here; it’s a private entity with rules, and if they decide to hold grudges because someone kicked them in the groin once too often, what of it?

Not that it would be that huge a loss… Quite the opposite, actually, since if I come to the conclusion that what happened to C#3 could happen to me, my days would be numbered anyway.
Do not take that as a threat (yeah, me leaving is really a threat - you’ll have a prty!), but you asked, and since you didn’t seem to grasp the obvious, I’m answering…
All well and good, but…
What’s the purpose of this board. Is it some philanthropic gesture on Cecil’s or the Chicago Reader’s part to give us a forum to discuss whatever? That would be nice, but reality sets in and we know that it’s to sell Cecil’s books. Or to read his column in the reader. Pure and simple. So, if they kick someone off the board, it’s because they don’t want the board to reflect badly on Cecil or the Reader. At the same time; if people get tired of shabby treatment and double standards of the board ops, and the SDMB get’s a bad rep, then that would also reflect badly on the great one also.
So, my little act of defiance will be to give away all of my Straight Dope books to people who don’t already have them. That way they won’t need to buy new ones and pad Cecil’s pocket.

Geesh, people write scathing, irrate letters to TV networks, magazines, and newspapers all the time. They don’t block the signal to your house or cancel your subscription do they?
