Masking up (again) in the MMP

Ladies and Gentlemen (and others), I have infuriated a squirrel. It’s been sitting on a branch facing my balcony and squawking loudly for a full 30 minutes. There are no cats or other predators or other squirrels about, and it’s glaring in my direction. I think the tabasco is keeping it from getting to its stash. Or else it’s a homicidal maniac.

It’s not scaring off the hummingbirds, however. I’ve seen FOUR in the last 10 minutes!

Such is life in Nellieland.

Evening, mumpers!

We never really stopped masking here, there are too many idiots out there for us to be comfortable doing without, at least in crowded indoor settings and supermarkets. They’re nominally still required on public transport but I see very little of that happening either so it’s not looking good for us. I have a stock of lateral flow tests as I’m supposed to test twice a week now I’m back on campus but for the one day a week when I’m there, it hardly seems worth the bother until I’m actually mixing with more people.

Today has been the first day of proper holiday for me - spent most of it cleaning the house which seems daft as we’re leaving tomorrow for a few days away. I have cleaned for the sake of the cat sitter, so she doesn’t think we permanently live in squalor. Carpets have been vacuumed, hard floors mopped, kitchen cupboards wiped down, sink and drainer cleaned, I’ve dyed my hair and been to the post office to send a Very Important Card. Even 'im indoors has tidied up his computer cubbyhole enough that he might actually be able to shut the door.

The cats are worried.

Be sure their are no small openings in the house tonight.

Morning, all. It will be afternoon by the time I get this post finished, but so what?

Late start Monday at school, and since there were no meetings scheduled I got to sleep in a bit. Pixel actually understood this and just curled up at the small of my back rather than yowling at me to get up and feed everybody. Such a smart girl! The additional benefit to sleeping in was that I missed the troll that was running wild this morning across the various forums. That would have put me in a very bad mood, but since the mods corn-fielded everything quickly, we’re good.

Students are diving into class avidly. Already received a Covid warning about a student who tested positive Friday. I think that is going to be a regular thing this year. As long as my kids stay on the side of Justice and Right, we’ll be fine. But I’m running a parallel class on-line just in case we go virtual sometime in the future.

Masking around town is running maybe 75%. The yammerheads are still there, but most seem to be complying with common sense restrictions. On campus it’s another story. Mask mandates are in place for any indoor space, and they have already exiled a math teacher who refuses to wear a mask. They took away his AP Calculus classes and he is now teaching on-line basic math from an empty room on a middle-school campus. That’s just because they haven’t figured out a way to fire his ass yet. If they can, which is doubtful. So he’ll stay off-campus until the mask mandate is lifted and he can return to the mocking he will receive from the rest of us. Idjit.

Stay safe and healthy, people!

I embraced the mask long ago. No smearing spackle on my skin, no sun screen in my eyes and I didn’t have to smile at anyone. As a bonus, I stopped going through a bottle of Claritin a month.

My risk of getting and transmitting COVID should be pretty low, I’ve got both the vaccine and natural Delta anti-bodies working for me now, but I’m keeping my masks.

Our housekeeper is coming tomorrow and we are going to get tested while she’s here. If I’m still positive, we will go to the imagining clinic and I’ll send a note in with someone explaining that they need to reschedule me and why. I feel so sorry for the receptionists, their phone issues have been going on for a couple of weeks and they must be getting so many complaints.

nellie, I called the wild animal sanctuary and they said they didn’t ship but would be willing to do curbside poop pick-up if needed*. From the sounds of your pissed off squirrel, you probably won’t but the offer is still there. I hope you know that I don’t offer to send just anyone poop!

George is seven pounds now and thinks its fun to run up his peoples to perch on their shoulder. Its cute now, but it won’t be so much fun when he’s twenty pounds. Hubs and I are both going around with a water pistol in our pocket or belt for protection in our own home, LOL!!!

*I might need to do that just because I’ve never heard of such a thing! Zebra poop is good for posies and they have a small zebra herd…

I’m soooo good to hear you missed it and it was cleaned up before you saw it. The cruel jabs directed at you were the worst of the lot and s/he posted vile, ugly, mean crap in about 18 threads. Discourse took away my flagging privileges for 24 hours, I was that mad.

imagining clinic? Is that where the fairy godmother taps you with her magic wand and turns you into Cinderella? With a 36DD twinkling ball gown and glass slippers?

LOL!!! Its the one that lets me imagine that I can speel! My poor mother was a grade school teacher/reading specialist and when I would ask her to proof my stuff, she would always sigh. She also called me a “creative speller”. Spell check is helpful to a point…

When my daughter was in elementary school, I asked her teacher about me proofreading her written work and helping with spelling. I was told they taught “whole language” and it was more important that they express themselves in writing rather than sweating silly stuff like spelling and grammar. Like an idiot, I listened. My daughter can’t spell for crap. Thankfully, the Montessori school where her daughter will start in 2 weeks teaches phonics! HUZZAH!!!

Well, there are already 3 dead bodies around Anna Pigeon in book 15. And, sadly, our library doesn’t have any more of her books in their collection, so I’ll have to actually buy them or find something else to read after this one. Dammit.

We’re going to forage for supper. I’m planning on a bowl of cereal because it’s easy. And early to be tonight, probably with Mel.

SIL will drop Roxy off in the morning, and I’ll take her to daughter’s school in the afternoon. But that’s tomorrow. The rest of today will be chillage.

I learned two things today:

1 - Fire ants don't like it when their home gets churned up, and

2 - I have a fire ant colony in my compost tumbler.

Those little fuckers are now enjoying some fire ant bait. I hope thy like it.

Moooom, even here in red TN, I’m seeing more masks about. We never stopped wearing them at irk, so there’s still as many masks as days that I go anywhere in the wash.

Be careful with those fire ants magic. They’re evil little fuckers.

Irked, came home and am tah-red.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

The prickly stuff arrived and, after much cutting and bending of paper clips into little tent stakes, has been installed. Take that, varmints! (I actually like squirrels and tend to be very soft-hearted. But I love my plants, too.

FWIW, after many years of teaching English, I concluded that some kids have the spelling gene and some don’t, regardless of which approach their teachers/parents use and how literate kids may be. There’s some science to back up the idea that at least part of our ability to spell is genetic. My daughter taught herself to read. I wonder which approach kids who do that use. I’ll have to ask her.

I want to go to an imagining clinic! Let’s start one!

I’m tempted to do this just so I can tell people I have zebra poop. Wouldn’t that be cool? My son-in-law gave me elephant poop writing paper for Christmas one year. (He does TOO like me.) P.S. You are a very kind person.

Yoiks. I may coat myself with tabasco before bed.

Mooom I’m currently enjoying Agnes Barton. Free on kindle with Kindle unlimited. In my head, it’s you and, I dunno, maybe Boo running around solving mysteries, even though I’ve never met either of you. Just looked a little further, and I’ve evidently stumbled into the middle of a series, looks like there a quite a few books there.

I was actually somewhat productive in the shop today, even with the lack of motivation. I set the stupid assistant (the CNC) to work and made some stuff. There’s a big event at one of the stores I sell my crap/crafts at this weekend and I may have some ready for it. Plus I may be able to deliver the last few pieces of furniture to a client this week, if the new restaurant is ready. Been waiting on them for weeks.

I bought elephant poop paper to write thank you notes to people I hate.

I slothed. It stormed.

My one cat Thrakazog used to do that. but it kept my neck warm in winter.

Eye lerned too spele inn publik skoolz.

I’d happily run around with mooom anywhere, any time. I tend to create more mysteries than I solve but I bet she’d make me look good.

The way my memory has been of late, every day is a mystery… :confounded:

We got a nice shower for a few hours and we may get more overnight. I won’t know, tho. I’m about to take Mel to bed. I’s tahred…

Behave yourselves while I’m snoozing!!! (yeah, right.)

Howdy Y’all! I had a nice talk with the pharmacist about my meds today. Last year when covid kicked into high gear, I was given a two month supply of meds “just in case.” Never understood why they thought there might be a medication shortage, but I suppose one never knows. Anywho, today I called about my ‘scripts and mentioned to her that I am still two months ahead. She suggested that I not get the current refills and that she would flag my account to let me know when I needed to get refills. I appreciate that cause I just don’t see the need to hoard meds. So that was the fun thing I did today. Sloth reigned along with the makeage and consumption of sup. Fred is payin’ us a visit but it’s been a nice slow steady rain instead of downpours, so that’s nice.

Dinna do it.

Evening all. Waited all day to coach soccer, even went by the fields at 3:30pm to make sure they were open, checked the Field Status website at 4pm to see if they were closed, then got dressed and headed out…to find they had closed the fields while I was on my way.

It wouldn’t have upset me so much except that the field I was going to practice on was in perfect shape, no water or mud to be seen anywhere, and practice could have gone on without a hitch…but they closed it anyway. As I have written to others here, the Parks and Rec Department is a bunch of wussies…

So no soccer tonight–maybe tomorrow.

Have read all but too P.O.'ed to respond. Should go out for a Butter Pecan cone, but I doubt I can be bothered to dress inappropriately.

Everyone have a good night. I’ll be much better tomorrow.

Can I have your DVDs?
