Pfffft. I don’t drink the cheap stuff,

In last night’s episode of “Smart Moves”, I maced myself. Our local 12u little league team has made the World Series. To raise money for them, the local hot wings joint was giving a percent of last night’s proceeds, so we ate Buffalo Wings. Yum! When we got home, I had to log into work, so I washed my hands three times, and took out my contacts, so I wouldn’t have to do so after Mrs Magill was in bed. Three times was not enough. The wings were good, though.
Happy Hump Day!
It’s a muggy 76 degrees outside, cloudy, and raining. We’re supposed to get a lot of rain.
I don’t know why y’all down south can’t keep your storms down there where they belong.
You don’t see us sending you our blizzards.
Dogs are at daycare. I asked them to give Ripple his rabies shot. I told them that if they have any problems to let me know and I’ll schedule an appointment with the vet. If I can go in with him, he will be fine. He’s gotten shots at the daycare before, the vet comes over in the middle of the day, so he should be okay. It was only when he had an ear infection that he got nasty.
The internet/phone person is supposed to come between 11 and 3. Earlier is better for me, but if they come closer to 3, it won’t matter if they make noise because my son gets up at 3 anyway.
Dishes are washing, and when they are done, I’ll start some laundry. I need to clean the powder room. My son vacuumed this morning before he went to bed, but I still see some fuzzies in the carpet. Then again, if it’s not fuzzies in the carpet, it’s dog hairs on the hard wood.
I hope FCD’s appointment goes well.
I have a living trust done, the only prep for my death. My son can figure out what to do with my body. I don’t much care, donate me to science, cremate me, bury me, turn me in jewelry, turn me into a tree, store me in a trunk in the attic, or dump me in the woods, harbor, or river to create a stir when somebody finds me. Actually, I think I would enjoy the last one the most. My son would never go for it though. Too uptight.
I really don’t know where I went wrong with him.
Wizard ack! Buffalo sauce in the eyes does not sound good. Congrats to the team!
So far 'Beamer continues to enjoy school. Getting him up in time is getting harder, however. I object. When I was a kid… bicycle… uphill… yada yada. It’s surreal that the kids started school last week. This is still very much Summer in my mind, so it does not compute.
It’s smoky again. I ordered interior air filters and they arrived. I’m setting them up in the bedrooms and my husband’s office. It that’s not enough I can get a bigger size for the “great room”.
Pixel has not been doing well the last week. He stopped eating hard food, but will eat soft food. We are hoping it’s just a tooth issue and not something more serious. We don’t know exactly how old he is, so it could be something worse.
Happy Wotansday y’all.
I’ve been in a funk for so long - doing the absolute bare minimum - that I am surrounded by “shit that needs to get done.”
Bathroom needs cleaning, bedsheets need changing, there’s baskets of clean laundry (I’ve been dressing myself straight out of them for days) and there’s tons of random clutter and “stuff” that really, I oughta just throw away.
Ugh. UGH!!
Hopefully I can tackle some of that tomorrow. I think I’m off, will hafta dbl-check.
In brighter news, I got a couple more hours sleep in the early A.M. and feel better than I have in days. Groggy as hell (and sporting impressive pillow lines!) but improving overall.
Poor thing, and I’m sorry you’re worried. Hope it turns out to be relatively minor.
nellie and doggie, that was exactly what I needed earlier.
Glad hear you’re feeling better, shoe - farts can be incredibly healing. And entertaining, because I apparently never matured enough not to giggle whenever I wake my own self up similarly, then sitting back and nodding in agreement.
School schedules came out this morning and the moms are all atwitter. I’ve been included on three text strings after putting something on FB. At least it’s better than better than having to talk to people.
Trash can update: my husband finally caved last night after draping his floss over the edge of the trash can a third time. I guess this means that I need to fold my clothes. But since I left clean clothes down there so long in the casket, I’m going to have to do another load of laundry. Guess I should work first, though.
Sitting in the waiting room with FCD - we got here in plenty of time despite the best efforts of idiots on both beltway. It remains to be seen whether we drive home in rain. Not that it matters much.
shoe - this might be trivial, but do you think writing out a to-do list then scratching items off might be a help? It works for some folks.
Morning all. I wanted to stay in bed all morning, my brain wanted me to get up at 6:30, so we compromised at 8:00am. Not much on the schedule, no soccer practice today, but kitchen could do with a good cleaning. So could I, for that matter, so a long, hot, bath id definitely in my future. Heading for 90F again, 35% chance of rain.
Hope FCD’s appointment goes well FCM, along with the drive home.
shoe, talky, I’m at the age where farts aren’t fun, but at least I know I don’t have COVID if I can smell them…
Wizard, knew there was a good reason I don’t eat spicy foods…
OK, need to check on the Southwest Chief in LaPlata (It’s a railfan thing) and then input some nourishment. All y’all take care.
Eeep. The Caldor Fire, 60 miles from me, has more than doubled in size since YESTERDAY. It’s now over 53k acres, 0% containment. Not much progress containing the Dixie Fire (which is over a month old) at 33%, and it’s now well over 600 acres.
To you lovely waterlogged types in the East, can we work out some redistribution?
The air is much more visible than it should be, and has strong taste. A certain Siamese is NOT going outside any time soon.
I am the same way. Don’t get too down on yourself. Do a little bit, when you can, and don’t force it. If you can’t, that’s ok too. Above all, don’t do what I do: I can get more down on myself because I didn’t get it all done at once.
For anyone who needs it:

Just another thing: seeing news reports about people stockpiling supplies in case of new lockdowns, which set off some squirrel urges. Awaiting an Instacart order with paper goods.
I’m glad you are feeling well enough to think about doing stuff again. I’m like FCM, lists help because I get a feeling of accomplishment every time I cross something off.
That would be fun
I’m going to the Body Farm just because I think its kinda cool. Did you know that people are eating so many foods with preservatives nowadays that our decomposition rates have slowed? Looking at how I ate for many years, my body will probably stay pristine for a hundred years.
I hope all goes well. I am sympathizing with you, surgical waiting rooms are sooooo stressful and cold.
I’ve been watching your fires, and all I can say is Holy Cow! Our air was pretty chewy for a while before the storms started, I was masking just to walk across the street to get the mail. Fingers crossed that something good happens soon.
I went to “free produce” day at the community center today. Before the world ended, we could “shop” (we couldn’t pick through to get the perfect tomato, but we could tell the volunteer that we just wanted 3 tomatoes instead of the flat they were trying to hand us) and just bring home what we could use. Now I get a huge box of produce and close to expiring stuff from Sprouts. This is a free to anyone who shows up program, its not meant to be food boxes for low income families so the stuff is really random.
Today we got frozen pork chops, frozen chicken, a couple of blocks of cream cheese, some canned veggies, milk, bread, potatoes, power drinks and a whole bunch of bright yellow, orange and red peppers.
I also picked up a box for a friend who has problems getting around. We went through our box and picked out what we would use, hubs texted our housekeeper to come and get the milk and I took my friend his box. After my friend picked through his box and my box, I took all the leftovers to where I used to work where it was received with smiles and happy noises.
Once my weekly good deed was accomplished, I came home and washed all the peppers so I could pickle them for hubs.
I don’t have COVID anymore, but he still does. We didn’t lose our sense of smell or taste with Delta, and hubs didn’t lose it when he had the original version, so the peppers will make him smile and make happy noises too.
We didn’t go grocery shopping last week, so our fridge is pretty empty. I’m taking advantage of this to pull the shelves out and run them through the dishwasher along with tossing the science experiments I’m finding pushed back behind other stuff. I feel very productive, but I’m not really. My wonderful dishwasher is doing all the work for me ![]()
AQI here is now 180, solidly in the red part of the scale. Hoping DH’s lungs aren’t complaining too much.
Internet has been upgraded.
I haven’t noticed anything different, yet.
I have to take Ripple-WeAreNotAmused to the vet tomorrow to get his rabies shot. He would not cooperate with the vet. Very annoying to have to make an extra trip because he wants to be a brat. They told me I’ll have to put a muzzle on him, but he will be good as long as I am holding him. I scheduled the appointment early so we can go straight from the dog park to the vet.
I’m not surprised that all the additives delay the decay so to speak, Unknown.
Not surprised at all.
Ugh. That explains part of the air quality issue now. We’re in “unhealthy for some” pushing hard for “unhealthy for all”.
Yep. DH and his teammates got sent home early due to unhealthy air quality.
Evening all.
Eep for all the people near the burny places, that doesn’t sound nice at all. I wish I could sent you some of our spare rain…
I have kind of surrendered in the house-hunting. There’s nothing. Just nothing. Not unless I want to be stuck with well over an hour drive each way and paying an uncomfortably large amount, and having to fully kit the place out including cooker and fridge. I’ve applied for *gulp* student onsite accommodation. Shared student onsite accommodation.
It was that or a share in town, but that would be very similar, with less oversight or flexibility.
I’m thinking I should go proper student cliché, because even though I will be old enough to be some of the other students’ mothers, if I’m gonna do this, I’m going all in. I think I can remember how to play ‘Stairway to Heaven’ badly on the guitar and I have some hippy wall-hangings available, what else should I do to prep?
