A bit off-topic. Here is an article from the New York Times in 1886. You will need a subscription to access it;
Can anyone tell me how many people were killed?
See:
That is the same confusing article that ran in the Times. Also, I cannot send you a private message. I tried.
Right, but my repost was unpaywalled. The article was apparently written immediately after the attack so it wasn’t clear how many of the injured (if any) recovered.
At the start of the article it is saying “Today the mother and three of the children lie at the point or death, one child has been laid in its grave, and the others with their father are nearly crazed with grief and horror.”
And at the end it is saying: “The probabilities are that the three children, and perhaps their mother, will not live through to-morrow”
Two children were not attacked “The next room contained Laura, age 18, and Nancy, age 2. The mother tried to enter this room, but Laura, after a struggle, succeeded in fastening the door.”
And the husband was absent.
I would expect that there would be information in genealogical records for obituaries–but I don’t know how to search them.
We now have the answers: The child Edna died and well as the insane mother who died after consuming strychnine, which had been In the house to kill rats–but the other three children survived.
[this lists the siblings and parents of Edna]

Thanks to some genealogical researchers, who may later add some more info:

You are very, very good at this. Thank you very much. I find I am improving my old lists nowadays even more than I am adding to the 2025 list.

This sound like excessive speed–but it could be a medical event:
Police say four people were killed Monday afternoon when a vehicle drove into the YNOT After School Camp, located at 301 Breckenridge. Deputy Chief Scott Tarter said the vehicle struck people both outside and inside the building. He said the driver entered the building’s east side and continued on, before exiting through the west wall.
Boy, talk about not seeing that one coming.

It’s not. Don’t let yourself become news-brained. The year isn’t over, but 2025 is so far proving to have one of the lowest murder rates on record (in the US):
