I’ve read in many books (from taoist texts on male sexual energy, to tantric text, to general bookstore joy of sex type books) that through various exercises including the flexing of the kegel? muscle (or whatever that muscle is called that one can flex to stop urinating) that eventually a man can become proficient in seminal retention during orgasm. This supposedly has many benefits which include increased sexual stamina (you don’t lose your erection after you come), a much more intense, spiritual, internal type of orgasm as well as overall health benefits (many eastern philosophies assert that the essence of a man’s vital or life force is in his sperm and that repeated ejaculation over time drains you of this energy thus speeding up the aging process.) I’m curious if anyone has actually done this? Please, refrain from general skepticism as I am a skeptic and am aware of the probable lack of statistical and scientific data on these practices. Any specific negative or positive experiences would be welcome. I just don’t need another western skeptic to tell me that if you can’t see it, bottle it up, disect it, or flush it down the toilet it must not exist. Thanks.
bolding mine.
Well this explains why Ron Jeremy looks like crap.
On to the scientific stuff. I once had a “dry” orgasm. I was having a “zesty session” and did the 'ole pull out. After “shangri-la” I went to do the clean up thing and noticed that there was nothing to clean up. I was quite flummoxed. I had no training, nor have I done it since.
(Borderline TMI warning)
I was on the receiving end of a particularly enjoyable blow job once, and renewed my interest in divinity (“Oh, Oh God, yes,” etc.) at the appropriate time.
The woman I was with kept going at it, though. It was strange, I had every symptom of an orgasm without the ejaculation.
Strange, we both thought. She thought I faked it.
Montfort - after the ‘great dry blowjob’ did your erection subside or could you have gone for round 2 immediatley?
The latter. She didn’t notice any change, physically, in me.
But, I didn’t want to go for round 2.
I think the muscle you’re referring to is the pubococcygeal muscle. (It took a looooooot of research to find the right spelling of that one…). But the ‘Kegel’ exercises are the ones meant to strengthen it, so you were on the right track. Couldnt find any information on dry orgasms, and my own personal TMI’s have nothing to do with the subject, so I’ll leave it at that little bit of info.
I can tell you that it does work. Ms Head got me a book called The Multi Orgasmic Man or something like that and I read through it. I’ve tried it a few times and can get it to work though it doesn’t do much for me. Yes I’m still ready to go, actually I just kept going, but not much else. I haven’t read the book for a few weeks, got it for Christmas, as I got real tired of them telling me that I’d live longer by doing it.
I may do it some more over the next few months but I wasn’t that impressed.
Miguelon, welcome, this has been covered before.
Ejaculation & orgasm in a man are NOT the same event.
ejaculation is necessary & important. Would you want to sneeze but have no snot come out? Would you want to pee & have no urine come out?
I can’t recall the specifics, but this has happened to me on more than occassion. I certainly didn’t train for it, and I don’t think I’d do it on purpose, but it never seemed to bother me. Isn’t retrograde ejaculation (the semen is shunted up into the bladder) related to this somehow?
Yes and no, that’s one of the things the book was talking about and can happen, but they say that you can have an orgasam W/O any sperm leaving the testicles. I don’t remember all the specifics but they said no loss of sperm which is where they say a good amount of energy is.
for me it was like a wave, don’t they all say that?, that ran up the back kinda like someones been running an electric razor or fingers over your back for too long. At least for me that’s the closest I can come to describing it.
As has most everything else. How about a link?
Hi Miguelon. To answer your OP, yes, I have tried this.
As Mnementh correctly stated, the technique involves doing exercises to strengthen the pubococcygeal muscle (the one you can use, if you want, to interupt your urine flow), plus some psychological re-training of your own sexual arousal cycle to let yourself climax without ejaculation. The latter is necessary for most men, since most of us are hard-wired to associate one with the other.
I learned about it from a book, “How to make love all night” by Barbara Keesling Phd. Some sample chapter headings: “The Complete Pubococcygeus Workout”; “Orgasm, Ejaculation and You”; “From Peaks to Plateaus”. Yep, this book tells you more than you could know there was to know about this technique.
So… is it worth it? Just my opinion, but having been through it all, I’d have to say no, not really.
Let me mention one point, which might clarify the issue. It is of course worthwhile for any man to develop his own sexual control and response such that he does not come before he wants to, both for his own and his partner’s pleasure. But that’s not the same as climaxing without coming. IMHO this really makes very little difference to either the guy or his partner.
Put it this way, there are scores of other factors which are more important in terms of how good and happy and fulfilling the experience is for both of you. The ‘tantric sex stunt’ of the crash without the splash is way down the list. Just in case you’re interested in some further reading viz ‘good\fulfilling sex’, I recommend more or less anything by Alex Comfort or Dr. David Delvin.
hell yes! And yang farts wouldn’t be so bad, either.

I’m surprised nobody has come along to say that your life force is NOT in se**n. If it was, think of all the men who would be dead by the time they were 20! Attempts to save “it” up or recirculate it are sheer weird folk practices practiced by folk who have too much time on their hands. These vital energy people are the same folks who think up fatuous theologies and asceticisms. Saving and retaining precious bodily fluids can result in a backup, probably a strain on the prostate, even infection.
I did a search on “orgasm without ejaculation” and came (sorry) up with about 20 threads. I don’t have time to wade through them all, but here they are.
I need to, um, go use the bathroom now.
Q. Have you done this (orgasm w/o ejaculation)?
A. Yes, after some exercises. It turned out that my lady and I were not sufficiently interested in extending the experience by a few minutes to go through the exertion.
Q. Is ejaculation necessary for good health?
A. No. Some drugs, such as Flomax, shut off ejaculation with no apparent bad result. Many men practice sexual abstention with no physical problems.
Flomax does not shut off ejaculation. It is an alpha blocker prescribed by those who have enlarged prostates. It relaxes the walls of the prostate, allowing urine a freer flow. I take Flomax with no affect on my ejaculation. As a matter of fact, so far I haven’t noticed any affect from it.
Yes, it does work, I’ve done it. For detailed information, I’d recommend this book:

HOWEVER… It is essential to have a partner who is equally interested in manipulating their kundalini, otherwise you’re just making things more imbalanced.
Several men have reported that Paxil causes them to be unable to ejaculate. However, some of them men report that they still acheive orgasm.
I’d just like to say that has to be my favourite SDMB comment of the year so far. Tea all over my keyboard and monitor, but well worth it. jb_farley is a genius, and you can quote me on that while flexing your pubococcygeus muscle.
