Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game. Fourth Adventure. Journey to Rivendell

Fred, “Joo sound funny, waja hit? Sumding pounding on da door.”

Elfstan strikes a severe blow and immediately starts twisting the glowing Sting.

Rub sits up quickly, toss Elfstan away by the action while letting out a bloodcurdling scream that abruptly cuts off when he smacks at whatever is *stinging *his eye and drives the ancient Gondolin blade through his own brain with a much greater force than Elfstan could have mustered. He if without question dead.

Fred, “Wat 'appened now?”

:Snerk:

Elfstan picks himself up and rushes over to the dead troll trying to ignore any bruises that are forming. He grabs Sting and heaves on it, trying to extract it from the troll’s skull.

Whispered, “we’ve overstayed our welcome it seems!

Elfstan finds Sting impossible to budge. You might need help later to get Sting out. You do notice a Reddish Blue glow from beneath Rub’s big ugly head. Sure enough, he drove **Sting **clear through his own skull.

Elfstan would kick the stupid troll in the head if he wasn’t worried about breaking his own toes. He doesn’t want to leave Sting, but doesn’t see a choice.

Whispered to Mulligan, “let’s cut this bow string and get out this window!

Mulligan, slightly unnerved by the troll’s demise. “An ooman hit me. I ates oomans. Get the ones outside the door.”

Is the ballista cocked and/or loaded??

Whispered: Hold on Elfstan, that ballista is still usable. Do you think we could use it between us??

The ballista is not ready to use and would be almost impossible for the two Hobbits to aim.

A loud clunk is heard and Fred says, “Door’s unbarred, git yerself down here.”

**Gwaelur hits the door again and it moves in several inches with a groan. **

Mulligan hears a whoosh as the oil on the wooden stairs catches fire from above.

Ghân sees a copious amount of smoke pouring out of the top of the tower. He also sees the rain is gatting harder.

Thoroncir sees the door begin to open and rushes forward, throwing his armored shoulder against it with all his might. His sword is clenched in his right hand, and he will be ready to help Gwaelur attack whoever - or whatever - they find on the other side.

Ok, I need to make sure I have this straight. Mulligan and Elfstan are on the second floor, right? Rub fell from the third floor? Fred is a troll that was sleeping near the door? That leaves two trolls unaccounted for. Does that all sound right?

As a person studying lighting design, this intrigues the hell out of me. “Reddish Blue?” Like lavender?

Excited by the events so far, Deor sticks next to Ghan, Gilraen, and Lorliana, keeping a nervous eye out for anything sneaking up behind us and the trolls in the tower. He’ll also make a point of trying to keep Curu from moving forward and attacking anything if he can help it. If he gets a chance, he’ll Sleep any goblins he sees. He’ll shortly call Folca down to his wrist to keep her safe from the storm.

Great work, hobbits! I’m sure glad Mulligan read her Shire history!

Shouting out loud in Mulligan’s own voice:

*One little troll sleeping by the door.
Two down below where no-one hears them snore.
One in the tower fell and bumped his head.
A little hobbit came along and now he is dead.

Fire in the belfry, storms in the sky.
Our work here is been and done
and now it’s time to fly.*

Hopefully, the others can hear me at the door.

I believe our work is done Elfstan, we can recover Sting later. Let’s move.

Gwaelur is as ready as he will ever be. He has his magic axe in hand and hopes that it takes out trolls as well as he thinks it will.

He also reminds the others chargind with him that he can not use his shield while using the magic axe, so the more cover they can provide the better. Don’t try to get too close to the troll, but keep it distracted.

Part of the problem is Terminology I think.

The party hears Mulligan’s voice from above and a nice little song imparting much information.

Gwaelur and Thoroncir push the door open abruptly. A Troll with a large Spear and a heavy spikes club awaits them but Gilraen sings out, “A Elbereth Gilthoniel, Silivren penna miriel. Cálë Cálë Cálë!” A brilliant beam of light shoots forth from her gift and dazzles and stuns the Troll.

Gwaelur swings and hits the stunned troll with his Great Axe for 17 and Thoroncir strikes with his Númenórean Sword and hits for 16. Fred yells in fear and pain as he covers his eyes. “Arrgh, the sun is on us. HELP!”

Gilraen begins her Song of Estë as Gwaelur strikes again and hits for another 15. Thoroncir misses this time.

Elfstan cries out for the Shire and comes down the stairs avoiding the oil. He tries to stab the troll behind the knee but his knife does not go into the tough skin. With a bit more caution Mulligan comes down and Slings a bullet into the Troll. She strikes Fred but does only 5 as the Trolls take only half damage from Sling bullets.

Miron and Gil-Gandel come running up to support. The both have clear shots at the trolls in the high ceiling room. Miron misses but Gil-Gandel hits with a +1 arrow for 4 (again half damage).

The Troll seems to recover and is extremely angry. Gilraen backs off but keeps the bauble blazing strong. The Troll accepts easy hits from the fighters to go for Gilraen. Thoroncir stabs at the troll and grabs his spear arm. He hits for 19 but is struck for 16. Gwaelur hits a third time for another 14. The troll is momentarily distracted by Thoroncir and he swings his club hard at Thoroncir. Thoroncir drops away but takes a glancing blow from Fred for another 5 (21) as Fred gets himself for 12. Miron first arrow finds its mark for 10 more and the Fred drops to the floor. Elfstan stabs him in the stomach with a triumphant shout of “For the Shire!”

Noise is heard from below.

As to Reddish Blue I believe that would be a shade of purple, but I was trying to indicate the odd look of Sting Glowing and covered in Troll’s Blood.

Very nice!

Too late again with the rest…

Elfstan yells, “Two down!”

Two to go!

Now that we’ve gotten as far as the door, should we move in further? We’re likely to hold the advantage if there’s room to move around, and the trolls will do better to try to get us at a bottleneck. Might be worthwhile to pull back a little, especially if the hobbits can cut that bowstring and keep us safe at range.

“Ghan might be disappointed if he doesn’t get to zap one of the trolls. Maybe we should fall back?”

Gilraen to Elfstan, “They won’t come out until it is much darker. How far are the goblins from us?”

I think we are better inside than out. If we can bottleneck them at the ladder up, so much the better. Let’s keep Ghan’s surprise in reserve until we need it.

Thoroncir, those were brave actions. Gilraen, you might want to assist your Knight with his injuries.

Someone needs to check carefully downstairs and someone should inform our two sappers of what has occured so far.

“In that case… Gwaelur, do you think you could help me get Sting out of Rub’s eye socket? With the fire and the tower damaged, I don’t want to leave it until later. Just mind the oil on these steps!”
