Middle Earth FA65 D&D Game: Next Adventure – (11th)

“We still are mid fight with this one troll though, can we wrap it up before we decide what to do with the others?”

((oops, I forgot that there was still one troll left! Ceol wouldn’t dismount or disengage until we drop that one. So, ignore the above, for now!))

See above

“Agreed. It is best we finish the immediate threat.”

Felareth will deploy Vicious Mockery on the troll. This does minimal damage, but imposes disadvantage on the troll’s next attck, hopefully reducing the danger somewhat.

ETA: Ok so imissed it too.

Gilraen uses all of her medical training and heals without magicHealer Feat d6+4+Lvl for 13 points, he is down 32 points. 2 rounds of Healing Spirit does 12! And Gilraen gives another Cure Wound for 12. Only down 8. Lets make haste, He’ll be healed by the time we catch the trolls.

How do we proceed? Only 2 injured trolls left.

Whoops

Gwaelur is ready to charge in after the other trolls. He hasn’t done near enough fighting yet.

“Let us leave the warhorses out here – I do not know that we need them in the caves, and they are better suited for combat on open ground. We can return to our usual formation, and move through the caves, looking for these last trolls.”

“The only parley I’ve ever done to a troll is with my axe. Besides, you don’t put out a pack of wargs as a welcome mat for visitors. One or two wargs to watch and raise an alarm, maybe. But a whole pack? There’s only one reason you do that…to take out your guest before they can do the same to you.”

Bitur puts his bow away and wields his axe and shield again.

“I’m on Gwaelur’s page here. When everyone’s healed up and ready to go, it’s time to finish this.”

Ghan searches the Chief for anything useful (such as keys, notes, treasure or Galvorn.)

He agrees with Ceol about having our usual formation (i.e Fighters in front of Spellcasters) but adds a note of caution (with one Fighter at the rear just in case, since the Cave complex is not a simple straight line.)
Then Ghan suggests we assume that Slox and Trogan will head for their own Cave area.
So we could aim to reach area 10, guard the rough stairs while we search the Chief’s area for Galvorn, then go up the rough stairs

On the Chief is found 4 rough iron keys and surprisingly finely crafted one made of steel. He also has an oversize flask, close to a gallon of bluish-green viscous liquid inside.

Gilraen volunteers to track the trolls, so she’ll be near the front right behind the 3 fighters. Which fighter type takes rear?

Bitur will take rear since he’s not as strong of a fighter as our other fighters but has a great defense and some other tricks to buy us time should we have to switch the ranks up due to being flanked.

Ghan thanks Bitur, because there could be a surprise rear attack in this complex.

Can Ghan try to safely identify the strange liquid in the **Chief’**s flask?
(He’s got a Herbalism Kit.)

A group of Herbalists & people with Arcana should check it together for best results.

Summary of liquids/potion checking

Ghan & Gilraen are the Herbalists.
Arcana: Bitur +8; Hejren +8;
Hejren as a Historian can provide a Help action on top of this
Bitur & Felareth can use Guidance to assist.

“I have a smattering of arcane lore I have picked up in my travels, and might be able to assist a more trained practitioner. I am also well-trained in History (+7). In addition, I can call upon my patron for Guidance should that be necessary.”

It appears on careful checking that the gallon of bluish-green viscous liquid is probably 2 oversized dies of Greater Healing. So drink a 1/2 gallon of foul tasting & feeling liquid and get back 4d4 + 4 hit points. Not bad for a troll, not too useful for humans and humanoids.

Gilraen notes, the trolls will probably be in better shape by the time we find them. But still, only 2 left.

Yes, by all means, let us proceed.

“Agreed, we should find them and deal with them now, before they have a chance to regroup or attack us again.”

The party moves forward, tracking the trolls to the heavy wooden door off chamber 13. The door is secured of course. It looks as strong as a castle gate. It also looks tight and very well sealed.

Thoroncir is at full health thanks to Ghan.

I suggest the cave map, or any subsequent map, be reposted at least every other day, so we don’t have to scroll 'way up to see it again.

Ceol looks at the door, and frowns. “Do any of you have the ability to open this with magic? I fear we neglected to bring a battering ram along with us.”
