Yeah. If only they would all stop begging to sleep with you, it probably wouldn’t bother you so much! Why can’t they all just act right, so they could have you? LOL!
I mean, seriously, take a look at Keith Richards sometime. Should we judge his value as an artist by his sex appeal?
And my point is, let’s talk about all of them in terms of their artistic offerings. If Mylie does a PlayBoy spread, then it’s fair to dicuss that in terms of whether her tattoos are aethetically (or erotically) pleasing.
I have a lot of respect for her. The transition between child star and adult performer is an extraordinarily tricky one and most don’t manage it. The very fact that we’re discussing her shows her success in pulling it off.
No. We’re discussing her because she showed up on the Jimmy Kimmel show practically topless and bedazzled like she was styled by a pre-K art class. Also, the only time anybody discusses her is because she did something attention grabbing (whoring?) or because it fits the punchline of a joke. I don’t recall anyone seriously complimenting her on her singing voice or acting chops.
Well, I didn’t single out her voice in post #33 but I’ll do so now: she has an excellent, strong voice and she has very good technique/control. The only thing I heard that I think she doesn’t do well is add any kind of real grit to her voice; her cover of The Turtles Happy Together exposes this weakness, but then I doubt her training ever really covered that; it takes a special skill set to be able to growl and rasp without tearing your vocal chords to shreds and that isn’t at all what she would have been preparing for.
It’s a whole social movement at the moment. It’s not my issue, personally, but there are a growing number of women who are sick of the sexualization of their bodies, and are working to change both the laws and social attitudes.
Many countries view the prudish American attitude toward breasts the same way we view countries that require women to cover their hair and faces.
Well, forgive me for saying that unless you listened to the examples I gave that helped me form my opinion, your opinion isn’t really worth much to me. One song recorded 6 years ago isn’t exactly a statistically valid sample, IMO. I’ll agree it’s a crappy song, tho her performance was fine.
I dunno. It remains to be seen if she’s in charge of her career or we’re watching a train wreck in progress. Some performers like Madonna, Christina Aquilera, and Lady Gaga may shock the public but they’re in control of their life. Others like Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, and Amy Winehouse are eaten alive by their career. With Miley Cyrus it could still go either way.
I listened to the links you provided. Each one start to finish. I will admit that I’ve never heard her perform those songs. My impression, having listened, is that she doesn’t have range and anything outside her vocal comfort zone sounds strained. So I stand by my opinion of her singing abilities; I remain unimpressed.
It was specifically some of the things she said with regard to her nearly naked public image that made me think she is a very smart person.
The story about Paul McCartney being uncomfortable trying to talk to her while she was nearly naked, and how she was uncomfortable talking to him because he’s fucking Paul McCartney ffs and how she found it to act as a sort of equalizer was both hilarious and insightful.
Also, she echoed Frank Zappa’s contention that the important thing isn’t the breast, per se, but rather the nipple (Frank contended that the nipple was what gave the blob of fatty tissue character).
In the interview she pretty much admits knowing that she’s presenting herself as a silly spectacle, but she has fun doing it. I like and can appreciate that approach to life.
I agree that she doesn’t seem to have great range, but then, I don’t need every singer to have a 5 octave diva range. I find her voice pleasant & her control within her comfort zone excellent.
As I’ve said of other singers, sometimes brilliance is knowing your limitations and working well within them. I think Miss Cyrus does that.
ETA: I appreciate your taking the time to have an informed opinion and hope that you didn’t find the time spent arduous.
My ears weren’t bleeding and it wasn’t an unpleasant experience. I agree it’s important to know your limits. I don’t imagine that even someone like Barbara Streisand (not a fan, BTW) would try to do successful covers of Joan Jet, Blondie or Janice Joplin.
But let’s be honest. MC staying within her vocal range and knowing her limits is not the reason for her notoriety.
I think you commented on how she’s exceptionally intelligent and that you’re very impressed by her singing abilities. Someone else commented on her successful transition from child actor to adult performer.
I’m not seeing any of the above in evidence. But that’s just my opinion.
