Misread thread titles

Headline on the ESPN website:

Sources: Suns purchase likely official by Feb. 9

I read that as the Phoenix Suns buying an NBA official, to make sure more calls go their way during the team’s stretch run to the playoffs.

General Motors suck

I mean, that’s not an uncommon opinion.

LaTeX support Broken?

I hope she’s on the pill.

I read that one as “Satans and grapefruit”.

It’s the devil’s fruit, I tell ya!

US Secret Service report on Mars Attacks in Public Spaces 2016-2020

Well, I thought that at last, the Secret Service had some meat to UFO stories…

Help me help my mom to go catless

Throwing out the litterbox is a good first step.

Amazingly, she managed that one all by herself, though anyone who knew her for the past several decades when we continuously had between 2 and 3 cats would have found that hard to believe. She said that with as long as the last ones lasted, if she got another, she’d still be cleaning litter-boxes at 90, and she wasn’t going to have that.

Well, OK, she does still sort of have one, but it’s an outdoor-only cat, so no litter-boxes involved.

I thought this thread title “Could have a silver lining I guess” was a bit vague, I opened it and read the first few posts and concluded “yeah, definitely too vague, I should report it for a title change” and right then as I was looking for the report button the thread title re-resolved to the correct one right before my eyes.

Tonight’s misread thread title:
Seeking a solution to prevent being stabbed by a pin worm on my clothing

shit, they do that?

Vicious little bastards, those pin worms.

Why Are You Hand-writing Quarks?

Um, because they don’t have email?

Unlimited Summer Fights? $399?

Seems kinda pricey. We’ve got plenty of bars around here where you can see all the fights you want, without paying a cover charge.

Not a thread title but:
Do any of you get the channel where they frequently show an infomercial called “Grow Your Hair Back”, and do you constantly read it in the TV listings as “Grow Your Back Hair” and then throw up in your mouth a little bit?

Disinflation, the UMC, and Me. (and you?)

I had Marketplace on the radio and they were talking about disinflation just before I read that. I was totally expecting a discussion about economics.

Ticketmaster, and other British panel shows: the omnibus thread

Ticketmaster has gotten so big they have a monopoly on British panel shows now, too.

I thought this thread would be about disaffiliating oneself from the Upper Middle Class.

I approved of the thread, because I’ve always been a DC man myself.

Number of Bees in the World.
Which is a lot more interesting than beds.

And a lot greater, I assume.

More about bees:

Lives saved / injuries prevented by bee keeping.

Interesting - but how?

Oh, hang on: Lives saved / injuries prevented by back-up beeping
