Mist and Murk in the MMP!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 28 Amurrkin out and clear (as opposed to confused?) with a predicted high of 58 and N.O.S. for the day. Today we lay in provisions. Ima make a Sam’s run whilst OYKW makes a trip to the Pubic Sto’. We even have lists of what to get where. How adult and organized are we! Anywho, that’s the big plan of the day. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread. Such is the excitatement here at da cave.

MOOOOOOM I am jealous of RoxStar’s present. I am sure she’ll have a blast with it.

All you with the Latin incantations better not summon any demons. It’s bad enough tryin’ to keep this place tidy without demons runnin’ around and not usin’ coasters and such.

Nellie you are not a bad person. Like others said, if you worry you are a bad person then you aren’t. If you spend time plottin’ evil and/or nefarious things to do to others, then you probably are. You don’t do that, however.

shoe are you a blonde?

nettie I too have call center experience. I believe upper management in such places want a lot of turnover, so they do stuff like that.

Boo four days and countin’. I bet she does give you a flyin’ tackle hug!

wordy ummmm… ICK! Good on you though for learnin’ how to do that. Sounds like your mom may be willin’ to do more stuff on her own now, so good thing there.

Cookie yay on bakin’ cookies. I am not so much inclined to bakin’, so I marvel at those who do.

I read all but probably forgot stuff, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around as needed.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, alas, alack, bother of bothers and woe of woes, I suppose I must needs purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Why must life be so difficult!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

I m coming up on the fourth week from surgery. I am doing much better. Today I go back to see the surgeon and get these staples removed. I am sure that will make a huge difference in the rest of my recovery

What a coincidence - Higgs gets her staples removed today, too! Hope your recovery continues apace!

25 degrees currently and gray. School drop off needs to commence momentarily, oh joy! rapture! The kitties are all cosy and curled up keeping warm looking askance at me clutching my cup of coffee. I think it’s cruel when your coffee smells heavenly but it’s still hot too drink. [yes, I’m being careful about using a coaster]

I forgot good morning all. It’s possible I will become more cheerful after the sun comes out, but don’t build your hopes around it.

Afternoon, mumpers! In the great MMP tradition of weather forecasts, it’s a whopping 46F today, and the weather app says “This is literally the perfect day to stay the fuck inside and try a new hobby. Might I suggest extreme ironing?” I think I’ll give that a miss, I might just slope off early and go to the gym instead.

hippie good news on staple removal, I hope the recovery gets better and better from now.

moooom I love a nice dry wine, although I do struggle sometimes with Beaujolais Nouveau as that is far too much like drinking vinegar. A crisp, dry white wine of an evening is the perfect antidote to some of the crazy days I’ve had this year.

I don’t normally participate in gift exchanges either, usually because the cost of sending something worthwhile from here to Over There makes it ridiculously expensive. Not that you’re not worth it, of course, but resources only go so far

Irk is being generally irksome today, I’ve got more meetings that I want in my calendar. Big Boss is off for the rest of this week, and my boss is finishing on Friday as she’s having surgery on her leg next week. She expects to be attending the odd meeting here and there, depending on how things go, and how comfortable she is, but I’m her deputy so I have now got all the invites to meetings she would be attending instead. Oh, the joy.

On top of that, we have a strategy meeting today as we’re losing three people from our team by the end of the year (one’s on a career break and two are taking voluntary severance), plus we’ve already lost one to a new dept that got set up last year. More work to spread around the ones we’ve got left, factoring in the various full-time, part-time, uni term and school term contacts we’ve got…it’s not going to be easy.

And as if that wasn’t enough, we have a new mailbox specifically for exam stuff. That, apparently, is mine to look after, on top of the other 8 generic inboxes I have, plus my personal one. At this rate, I won’t have time for any spreadsheets!!

I almost shoplifted in WalMart! :open_mouth:

I used the self-checkout, and I bagged all the small stuff before shooting the stuff left in the cart with the gun. I hit the cat litter and 4 other big items, totally skipping over the two 6-packs of diet coke. In fact, I was about to push away from the register when I realized what I’d done, so out came the credit card and the gun, and I was saved from my life of crime. whew!

Then I made a quick run thru Aldi, just minutes after they opened. There was hardly anyone in the store, but they all had to block the aisles completely!! Still, I got out of there in relatively short order. And everything is now stowed, giving me chill time until I have to take Higgs to be unstapled.

Incidentally, what happened to sari?? Did she mention she’d be away and I missed it?

I survived shoppin’ at Sam’s. I took advantage of my geezerdom and went when it opened at eight as us old farts are allowed in with the folks that shop for their bidnesses, rather than havin’ to wait until ten when all the peons and persons of no importance are allowed to shop. That’s the way I prefer to look at that. :crown: I broke down and binge shopped a bit. I bought macaroons and chawklit chip cookies. OYKW does not like macaroons, so I justified buyin’ macaroons by buyin’ chawklit chip cookies for him, although I will also partake of the cookies. I’m shameless like that.

Hippie yay for stich removal! May the rest of your recovery be smooth and soon.

Good morning, y’all. I’m not super blonde today - there’s not even really a noticeable color change, just some subtle glints of brightness.

Turns out I have one or two unpleasant adulting tasks to attend to today, so to put those off, imma finish putting away the laundry, and dump & refill the secondary litter box, cuz that one definitely has seen recent use.

Cats are splitting a can of gooshy-food, mostly to bribe Her Highness out of my chair, so I don’t have to nudge her out myself and then feel bad for kicking an old lady from her spot.

That’s a feature, not a bug!

It’s the first of December and I’m already tired of my feet being so flipping cold.

Anyway, it’s a chilly 20-something degrees. Coffee is being had. Mom is at home, feeding tube, hole in the neck and all. I went to the hospital around 1:30 pm yesterday and she was only discharged around 7. Go figure. Now the follow-up appointments shall ensue. Mom’s trying to make things easier on me and will hopefully be able to drive herself over here (she’s not on any pain meds, just antibiotics and the same stuff she was taking earlier) so I can play magician again with her neck.

I think I’m having a mental breakdown at work. I got back to it today and now I find myself sitting at my laptop thinking, “Should I even be doing this? No one has really noticed I’m out of touch…for like two weeks. Do I matter and if I don’t matter, do other people know that, or does that mean I’m good enough at managing my team they rock along on their own without me? If they don’t need me, shouldn’t I find a new job?”

So that’s fun. I don’t know whether it’s a function of my mom, stress or that I have competent people but I really don’t know why I’m doing what I’m doing anymore. But…one problem at a time, right? The sun is shining, mom is (somewhat) healthy, hole in the neck and tube in her nose disregarded and I have clean socks.

FCM, I guess I shouldn’t have been making comments about you using the bathroom 3 times a night; I was up at 1am, 4am, and 6am to use the facilities. Unlike you I am not a responsible human being and went back to bed until 8am. Not much on the agenda for today, maybe pickup some stuff at the Kroger but big shopping day will be Thorsday or Firday. And yes, I too have almost trucked out of Wal-Mart with stuff I forgot to scan.

nona, yeah, more like January weather, but it’s getting to 52F today the weather folks say, so there is that.

hippy, don’t know if you’ve had staples out before, when I did (25+ years ago) they used something that looked like a giant staple remover and the feeling was…odd. Glad you’re recovering well. You and Higgs can compare surgery scars one day…

boo fae, are they going to try and hire new people, or just pretend they were excess and “do more with less”? Hang in there.

talky, I had moments like that when I worked, of 'what am I doing here, what am I contributing?" Take a deep breath, realize that you are valuable to your team and your company, think about the stuff you have done and will do, and then get yourself back in the flow–a lot of it is your discombobulated with how things have been moving along. It’ll come to you.

OK, need to warm up the house some (I set the thermostat low at night) and think about the morning meal. All y’all have a good hump day.

Happy Hump Day!

Virtual faculty meeting this morning, where I am sure they will tell us that we aren’t returning to in-person instruction for the rest of the school year and also note the tidal wave of “F” grades in the pipeline for the end of the semester.

Tango has now managed to shed and hide two different collars around the house. I haven’t been arsed yet to look under the furniture, but the current collar is bright colors. It should be easy to spot unless he batted it under something. Silly kitten. Just to be sure I ordered another set of bright collars and another name tag from the Jungle. Total weight is less than 2 ounces, so it shouldn’t be tough on the sorters. Just doing my part!

Morning all. TGIW!!! It’s 46°, purportedly headin’ to 59. So pretty much a repeat of yesterday - which turned out colder than I expected. So I now have a sweatshirt, gloves, and a scarf tucked into my backpack until spring. Yeah, yeah, I know, all you folks dealing with below freezing temps are thinkin’ what a wuss I am right now. I don’t blame ya. I used to do the “I’m from Chicago, this isn’t cold!” bit when I first moved here. Now I’m acclimated, and when that wind whips in from the ocean - man, I feel it. Not sorry, I’d rather be toasty and comfy than macho.

Business has been close to non-existent since Moanday. People are either being smart about isolating, or they think we’re closed. I think it’s more the latter. It’s a mixed blessing, since the irk day becomes hella boring, and worse, they’ll probably start cutting hours. I’m full-time, so my hours are safe, but I feel bad for my cow-orkers (and friends) getting a smaller paycheck. And then when it gets busy again, more work for me since there won’t be enough help.

Nettie, you make me glad I gave up the cubicle life, though. I’ve been through crap like that. Here’s hoping the PTB do the right thing eventually.

Hippy, yay on the staples coming out. They’re worse than stitches IMO, discomfort-wise.

Add me to list of folks who think Nellie is nice. In these weird times, we may occasionally be forced to act against character. You did right by yourself. Don’t let it get you down.

Boy, when I put something off, it stays put off.

Laundry is all put away, and a large bag of “in good shape but I hate wearing it” has been gathered for donation.

Both litter boxes are dumped, cleaned, and refilled, ready for the next deposits.

Pretzel has a big bowl of fresh water.

The big trash bin is over half full again - in my zeal to procrastinate, I sorted through a lot of crap (old/unpaid bills, empty boxes for the rats, etc.) and tossed out a rather impressive pile of garbage.

The “adulting” stuff that’s given me a screaming case of the donnwannas … well, I got as far as pulling out my laptop. Baby steps.

Happy Thursday! 45o here, which is the predicted high; “a chance” of flurries today, but then clear tonight with a low of 31. Need to ring the Hyunday dealer and ask when they’ll be finished with my car – the original estimate was yesterday. The trip to retrieve it will also involve stops at BJ’s and Walmart, and possibly even Aldi.

Same here, this year, especially with the stoopid job paying basically Toytown money. We could have a nano UK mumper gift swap? Shops are actually open here.

It looks like I’ll be posting all the Christmas stuff this year- there just isn’t a good way to organise going to the other end of the country doing all the driving myself. If I stop off like I normally do the only friends who’d let me stay are the high-risk-of-infection ones. Not worth it.

I’m having a very hard time getting into the spirit of it this year; I’ve not even started shopping, so I really need to get a move on. Iespecially need to get something nice for the cousin’s kids (only sprogs on Mum’s side of the family, so effectively niblings)- I normally get them something, and they’ve had a rotten year, including parents splitting up. Tough on 8 and 10 year olds.

Anyway, :honeybee:s got their fuds, shopping completed, both healthy vegetable type and booze/snacks. The sun briefly made an appearance, but mostly damp today. I’d like a bit o snow.

Higgs has been de-stapled, so she can go thru metal detectors unmolested, tho I don’t know who’d molest a pug in a metal detector… :open_mouth:

Just finishing a big ol’ salad for lunch. Next stop is downstairs where I’ll do some measuring and computating for the shelves we plan to put in the closet there. The size of the space will determine the size of the shelves.

Supper will either be salisbury steaks with onions or something with shrimp. I can’t decide. Frankly, I’d rather just order pizza, but I’ll try to be adult about the whole thing.

It’s bright, sunny, and 22f here. One of our friends who works at Home Depot has tested positive. He’s a young’en, (well, younger than us) so he’ll prolly be okay. :crossed_fingers:t4:

Wifey has been feeding the deer that sleep under our back deck. She also feeds the birds. Between the lot of them there’s poop everywhere.

Y’all take care now.

My body seems to have forgotten how to sleep. Woohoo.

Came back to add: My Fitbit broke yesterday. Came apart. The face fell out of the case. Apparently it couldn’t take the vibration from the jigsaw. Don’t know if I’ll replace it or get something else.

If it’s not one thing, it’s two.

I hear ya! My feet get cold in September and stay that way until May or June. I’ve gone through zillions of slippers and socks searching for the right ones. I think I’ve even had a thread in the past asking people for sock idea (and got some good ones).

Finally, I have found the Holy Grail of slippers. And they’re only $24 @ amazon:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V2YFX7B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Be sure and read the reviews. Order a size up, and even then they will be snug with socks because the inside is sooooo fluffy. However, I’m sure that fluff will flatten out eventually. I can wear them with (thin, not heavy-duty wool) socks or NO SOCKS :slightly_smiling_face: and they keep my feet roasty-toasty warm. Soles okay for taking doggie outside for walks. I got the red ones. That’s Tikva curled up on one of the six dogs beds in my house.
