I knew that, but I did (and still) mentally pronounce it as “Matt Emm Cee Ell”.
Oh bad bad me! I always say it just like that.
I once misread a professional BBS name as “The Rapist Club” instead of “Therapist Club.”
You may not have been mistaken for me, but I’ve been mistaken for you. I’ve also been mistaken for NinjaChick. Just remember, kids - I’m the one with the screwy punctuation.
It’s my name (init and last). I have ever, coincidentally, shot animals (small, non-endangered ones, in season) on rather rare occasions in order to cook and eat them, but I don’t do so here in New York City. I’m not an NRA member. Nor am I hunting for _____ (fill in the blank with your most lurid imaginations) here on the message board.
Regarding I Love Me, Vol. I:
:smack:
My favorite username is and has always been Sue Dunhym, and I’m most certainly not the first person to fail to construe it. I thought Canthearya was pretty cool, too.
It must be because I grew up watching Mtv, but I always read your name as being short for “Alan Hunter”.
It is short for Allan Hunter, as a matter of fact, but that’s a coincidence, as I’ve never been a VJ on MTV either.
We do love otters.
For the longest time, I thought mangeorge was supposed to be mange orge. I still don’t know what mange orge is supposed to mean, but man george makes more sense.
inkleberry: Would you like an album cover?
I thought the same thing about mangeorge’s name. Orge means barley in French, so I just figured he was fond of eating barley and decided to express it in his user name for whatever reason.
Great thread. I’m ALWAYS wondering about people’s usernames.
I’m not rich by the way. Not even close.
[obligatory SNL reference] I’ll take The Rapists for 100 Alex! [/SNL]
i’m always confused when people decide to shorten my nick to “theck”, as if it were theck hd. I thought it was short enough already.
it actually splits correctly into the ckhd, where ckhd is short for crackhead, a nickname used by my metal shop teacher in high school for anybody in his classes. It somehow stuck among my friends and i, since it was so absurd (i was quite possibly the only student in the class who was not a crackhead).
the odd part is that since i don’t usually tell people what it stands for, i usually pronounce it by spelling the second part, “The C. K. H. D.” Someone suggested adding “Notorious” in the middle when i said it this way once, but i was deemed not nearly notorious enough for that.
My name is often misunderstood. People think it is short for “New York City tea,” but it is not. It is the scientific name for the snowy owl, which is one of my favorite birds. It doesn’t help that I have no idea how to pronounce it! I should have never changed my name from birdgirl, I don’t know what I was thinking, although when I was birdgirl, people sometimes mistook me for biggirl.
I always read gobear’s name as goober. I hate that, even though I know what it means. I wish more people would put a space between words.
Exactly what I thought for the longest time!
I had a female boss named Teddy many years ago, so I always assumed Eddyteddyfreddy was une femme. Besides she gushes over her cat(s)… that’s just soooooooooo female!
However, I thought Rue De Day was female for a long time… I think ist the Rue part: watched WAY too much Golden Girls back in the 80s.
But contrary to occasionaly perception, this cat is not a guy. Don’t let the Krisfer mislead you… I just think it’s cool.
There’s a msmith9837 (or some combination of numbers) that I always read as Ms. Smith, but that’s about all I can think of currently.
I never mistook Mangetout for what it wasn’t. Of course, around here, the population is close to 50/50 English/French. I’m official bilingual, though my French has gotten pretty rusty. (And I must point out that “tout” should be pronounced “too”, not “toot”.)
As for confusion about whether a poster is male or female (or something in between), I suggested in the “About This Message Board” board that “gender” and “age/birthday” might be nice additions to “join date”, “posts” and “location” on posts. Of course, these would all be optional.
Anyhoo…
I’ll be damned…yeah, I thought you were just incredibly narcissistic.
Mine isn’t a palindrome, but it works kind of works almost the same way. For many, many years my BBS handle was Sir Blah.
My user name is also an anagram (for my first name), which is why it’s spelled funny.
