MMP - a generally crappy Monday

KT got “current” on his pilot’s license again recently for the first time that I’ve known him. So after knowing him for almost 5 years, we finally went flying together for the first time on Saturday. We rented a Piper Cherokee Warrior, a little 4-seat plane. It’s definitely less smooth than a commercial plane (and louder!), but not bad at all. We flew out to the city where KT works, (He works an hour from where we live, a 1/2 hour flight.) and met a couple of his coworkers and kids there. A bunch of the kids got to sit in the plane and have their pictures taken. Then we went to dinner at a nice restaurant out there. (Did you know that small general aviation airports usually have a courtesy car that you just borrow on the honor system??) When we flew home, the sun was setting behind us, and Saturday night’s gorgeous full moon was rising in front of us. Just beautiful.

The only thing that made me nervous was that the airport we flew to is an “uncontrolled” airport meaning that there’s no air traffic control person telling you what to do. You just announce yourself on that airport’s frequency and hope that anyone else who’s trying to land or take off is also announcing themselves. You look really carefully, but at some point you’re just taking a chance and going. I really like our “home” airport with its friendly ATC people a lot better!

(((to all that need them)))

Blurf. I’ve finally started my period (I start getting PMS symptoms like three weeks ahead of time. You can imagine how annoying this is). Hopefully I’ll also stop wanting to hibernate. Otherwise, I got nothing and I’m supposed to be doing homework so I had better go.

I had my annual poke 'n prod today for the first time in 4 years. turns out I have diabetes type 2. I will be starting on metformin and testing 4x day. I’ve been through this with other family members, so I know what to do and what to expect. It’s not the end of the world by any means, just a PITA.

**Haze **- some other cat pee suggestions. Good luck!

I made a big batch of veggie beef soup only to be reminded that daughter has class tonight. Then **FCD **came home and declared he didn’t want soup. So tomorrow’s supper is cooked and we’re going out for bad Chinese.

He’s got an appointment with his orthopedist on Friday. His back is so bad, I had to put his socks on him this morning. That is not good. If he has to have surgery, our vacation is off - he can’t take weeks of sick leave, then get vacation in June. As bummed as I’d be, I’d rather he get his back fixed. Any good thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

My project from the depths of hell was posted today, and the next part of it was canceled, so I have nothing to do! How weird, after working like mad the last month or so. I do have some boring reading to do for a training class next week. So that’s how I amused myself today… zzzzzzzzzzzz

The team from the project from the depths of hell is going out to lunch tomorrow, and I’m leaving immediatedly after, because I can. I figure I’ll take advantage of the slow time and slack off a bit.

kai, sweetie, hang in there! Hope your 2 years fly by and you can get your life together again.

Hugs all around, with a few random gropes thrown in!

{{{kai}}}

taxi - that sounds like a very romantic time!

Feel better, {{{ShinyKitty}}}

{{{WallE}}} - I’m sorry. I know how you feel! :frowning:

I want some soup, Mom! I think I’ll go home and make some chicken tortilla soup. Tonight and tomorrow night might be the last cold (30’s) night we’ll have this year. Mmm. And it’s extremely low carb, so I can have a piece of cake, too.

{{{kai}}} here’s hopin’ the fool comes to his senses and just signs the papers. Sounds like that’d be the best thing all around. Meanwhile, just keep enjoyin’ those grandbabies. BTW, you promised so we want, nay, demand pictures!

{{{Walls}}} at least you know what needs to be done. Like I told Rebo now that you know you can do what you need to take care of it.

taxi what fun! It does indeed sound all romantical like bein’ whisked away to dinner in an aeroplane!

MOOOOOOM I have a stack of self-led training stuff to do. I don’t wanna! I should have done some of it last Sattidy but chose to do other stuff that didn’t exactly need doin’ right then and there. Thus, this week, I must. There’s at least ten hours of it that is, according to TPTB, must be done now or the world will end!!!111. Which means, I’ll do it and then nuttin’ will come of it as usual.

Fried chicken livers, smashed N.O.T. and steamed asparagus do, indeed, go together. YUM! I took some skettie sauce out of the freezer for tomorrow night. I figure sketties, sallit and some nice Eyetalian bread will be a good dindin especially since tomorrow promises to be rainy and cold.

I thought we’d banned bad things from happening to the MMP. Who lifted the ban? {{Hugs}} to everyone who needs them!

Good luck Soapy! Shall we send some [del]bribes[/del] chocolates to the colleges?

Just got an email from the boyfriend that has left me weepy - he said he couldn’t bring himself to call me because he’d start blubbering like a baby. No good or bad news yet for his dad, although all in all things are not looking up.

Off to work. Blurgh.

Buns, one last bit of snerkage RE stabbing your funbag; it’s still not as :smack: as the guy I hauled to the hospital Saturday night that ran hisself over with his own pickem up truck…

Did you clean it out? Food particles on the knife can cause a nasty infection if embedded.

Evaluate the need for sutures?

Keep it clean, and cover for the next couple of days. Once a solid scab has developed, leave it open to stay dry. If red streaks develop, see a doc for antibiotics.

Spaz, I told you a month ago to knock that snow shit off, and now you’re sending yet another nor’ easter tomorrow night.

Dammit, I gave up snow for Lent, and I was doing so good up to this point.

Is the president’s decision really a decision at your school or is it normally a rubber stamp? Either way, I’m keeping appendages crossed.

Hugs to both howye and Dotty on the kid challenges. Kids can be so much fun at those ages, but…sometimes you just wonder about them…

New car sounds nice, Dotty.

Recipe?

Was that an actual **LiLi **sighting? Hope the new kid arrives very soon. Seems like it’s time.

Ya know, Soapy, you probably cheered up someone else instead.

mmmmm, sorry the travel got a bit bumpy. It’s more important to have spent time with your friend. Important meeting people will live.

kai! Sorry stuff is so messy. Keep focusing on those grandbabies.
Pictures??? The book project sounds like fun. Do we get to be early readers?

Plane ride sounds very fun and romantic, taxi. I’m highly envious.

Hope FCD’s pain goes away very soon. Here, have some chocolate.

Aww, Haze, so sorry. FWIW, when you write stuff like that about IB, my “he’s a keeper” sensor keeps going off.

Long, but amazingly not sucky, work day. Got quite a bit done. Am home now and considering dinner. And knitting. Should really get some laundry done, but I don’t feel like it, so that might get pushed back to tomorrow.

Hugs to all.

Actually I’m doing a lot better. I’m not sleepy, although I’m still not terribly productive, and the backache I’ve had for the past two days is fading. It’s tough being a woman! Men have no idea!

I’ll share a recipe for yumminess, which I’m eating right now.

Yummy Salmon Casserole
Ingredients:
1 bag pasta (shells, elbows, or whatever your preference is)
Leftover salmon (about two cups shredded) or two small cans salmon (drained)
1 can cream of mushroom soup
Green peas to taste (I do about two cups)
Rosemary to taste

Cook the pasta and drain.
Mix everything else. Microwave until warm.
Delicious with fritos and gives a single person enough food for about a week.

To continue my whine-fest for the day…

My arm does not like 30 minutes of continual dremeling. Ouch.

WTH is dremeling? Do I want to know?

Sorry to hear of those who have health troubles. Hell, it sounds like we all need to just forget about today and start fresh tomorrow. I’ll do my bit.

I presume she’s refering to the use of aDremel tool; a handheld grinder/cutter/polisher used by hobbyists of various sorts.

I have 3 of the damned things…

I second the “wtf is dremeling” question, and leave you with my sig, since folks are throwing it around and we have a newbie or two

Yesterday I made a yummy meatloaf. It was a two pounder, because we all love the leftovers for sandwiches and stuff. This morning I took a slice for breakfast (don’t judge me! ;))

This afternoon, I called my husband to chat a bit as I was driving home. He told me a story of how he was wondering what happened to the rest of the meatloaf. My Dad apparently had some for lunch and left it on the counter. Mr Rebo came in and had some after him. I’m not sure what happened, but the meatloaf disappeared! Mr Rebo was wondering, and saw the empty container, and looked around. He looked in the microwave, and looked in the freezer, as well as the chest freezer. He was about to leave to run errands, and Dad was in the bathroom, so didn’t ask him.

I asked Dad when I came home and he said he was wondering what Mr Rebo had done with it! He looked in the freezer and the trash. I also looked in the pantry (sometimes people have brain farts!)

The container was still on the counter. No meatloaf was to be found. Where did our yummy leftover meatloaf go?

It had to be Lucy the Labrador. She has not done anything like this since we first found her, and she ate half of a whole cake that was on the counter. She didn’t drop the pan on the floor that time either! She’s so neat! There was no evidence anywhere of the meatloaf. My little pig dog. She ate a full pound of meatloaf! I hope she doesn’t puke.

Get home to find two of the cutest kids you ever seen. Five-year old son is at the kitchen table counting the money in his piggy bank. He knows the values of the coins and is adding them up correctly, where he has already learned this I don’t know. Meanwhile his sister, almost four, is up in her room counting her piggy bank because that is what her brother is doing. Sometimes they are so frustrating, and then they are so worth it.

Had steak and potatoes for dinner, and catching up on DVR shows after the Olympics. Not a bad evening after all.

Yay! Glad your day is going better howye. That’s exactly what I meant upthread.

Heee. Meatloaf story was funny, Rebo.

Added salmon to blog, STG.

Knitting and watching stuff online.

Back later…

Hugs.

Yep. He’s right. I made a bunch of resin necklaces and was using the dremel to trim the excess from the edges. My arm is still a bit achy. Wah.

Well, I just cooked 20lbs of ground beef and now the kitchen is a mess. I’m glad that my dogs are short, though. They only got a few scraps to eat.
