WhoHoo! I’ve just been informed that I have won the Canadian Lotto. [sub]Yeah, right![/sub] I’m sposed to contact Mrs. Nicole Kage.
I’m also informed that my girl is unsatisfied with my pottency.
Okay, I’m easily amused.
I made a wonderful Thai yellow curry last night. See, I was in the wholesale restaurant supply store a while back and found a 2 lb tub of Thai yellow curry paste for $2.89. I figured it was worth a shot.
So I put on a pot of basmati rice and put a can of coconut milk on to warm with about a tablespoon of curry paste in it.
Then I chopped up a couple boneless, skinless chickie boobs. Julienned some carrots and half a red bell pepper. and chopped up some onion and celery.
I sauteed the chickies in some oil on high. When it was done I tossed in the veggies and cooked them for 2 - 3 minutes, then poured the curry sauce over and turned the heat down and left it simmer until the rice was done. Yum!
For dessert whe had a bottle of semi-sparkling muscat and some chocolate chip walnut cookies. Do we know how to have fun, or what?
It was 34 Merikan degrees and sunny on our front porch at about 10 am this morning.
Here’s a picture of my futon. The frame is that color but the mattress I have is a cocoa brown with offwhite piping. It looks good. The pillows are a cocoa brown weave pattern with a darker brown background. I have two round pillows and two square pillows. Could getting that descriptive about furniture just be any gayer!
Arrived home without locking keys in car or leaving headlights on. Yay, me! (My husband has an extra set of keys for my car, so he was able to open the car door when he arrived home last night.)
I met a very nice girl dog named Casey, who is ten years old, black, very mellow, with silky ears, and a shmoopy girl yesums you is, and, well, I filled out an adoption application for her! My husband wants a teeny fluffy dog, but secretly, I like a dog with some poundage. I mean, I’d like to take the dog for walks in the park that starts where our back yard ends , and it’s a not a municpal park with flower beds and grass and benches, it’s the kind of park with hiking trails, big trees and fallen trees, and brush and deer. I can just imagine trying to take a toy pom for a walk up to the top of Mill Hill. It would get totally stuck in the undergrowth about ten feet into the woods… Yip! Yip! Yip!
Mr. Lissar is going to help me cook tortillas. I made a double batch of dough. I wonder how long the obsessive-cooking phase will pass before I get back to obsessive chainmail, embroidery, applique beadwork, sewing, or spinning. I always like to cook, but being given Matilda has made me psychotically domestic and baking-minded.
Our snow didn’t last very long after it stopped falling. Then the sun came out. Now it’s dark and cold. Except in here - I’ve got a toasty fire going and it’s very comfy.
GT - I was nice - I shared the chocolate with my sick sweetie. I’m way too good to him!
I rented the Brady Bunch Movie–lame but fun to watch. the best parts were all the cameos by the old cast members.
Yes, I have brain rot. Hey, it beats Survivor TV, IMO.
Off to bed. Hair not so great now, it will need to be washed tomorrow. Blah.
Of course you were nice. You’re always nice (dammit!).
Actually it was intended for both of you…
It’s really really cold here. Close to zero degrees. Which is colder than zero Lissla degrees. It’s supposed to be a tad warmer tomorrow and yet another tad warmer on Monday. But sunny both days. Yay!
Didn’t get out after all, but I have to go out tomorrow. Church in the morning and a birthday open house in the afternoon. Not sure what I’ll do in between.
How come I’m first in on Sundays lately? I slept in till almost 8:00. Yay!
I had a very weird dream as I was waking up. My least favorite co-worker (LFCW, the only one that’s a problem, really), faraway best friend’s mom (another difficult person) and I were all visiting faraway best friend for some reason. Although the house was different and was more like the house where I lived in Berlin. For some reason, we had to drive somewhere to get groceries (not how it is IRL), and LFCW volunteered to drive. Mom, for some reason, brought her bike as well. As far as I know, she’s never been on a bike in her life. We drove through the hills (which had colorful houses in some places, more like Mexico than Germany) and arrived at the grocery store complex. LFCW rushed off to shop, Mom hopped on her bike, but accompanied me into the nearest entrance which turned out to lead to a kind of spa/swimming pool place. It was very bizarre and confusing (count the number of times I put/could have put “for some reason” in this paragraph) and in the end all the groceries looked wrong so I didn’t buy anything. Only real-life aspect was that LFCW and I didn’t exchange a single word. (We generally communicate via e-mail because conversing tends to lead to lengthy and strained discussions. I’m just happy I’m the boss.)
I’m making tortillas again this morning. We’ll see how they work out.
I am off to the Field museum today with #2 son. #1 son and daughter and husband will meet us there after lunch to go to the Shedd Aquarium. Older kids don’t want to go to see the mummies, but want to see fish. In this way, all are happy(well, sort of. I really don’t want to go to two museums in one day, but we are).
It’s a brisk 8 degrees today. Supposed to be 25 soon. Better than yesterday, anyway. I am observing, not complaining–this is a mini-winter for us here.
Just finished my taxes. I was going to do them by hand, but I thought I’d go ahead and use TurboTax just to see - after all, you don’t have to pay if you don’t actually file thru them. Well, imagine my surprise to learn that we’re getting refunds from the state and the feds! We, who always have to pay! So I was feeling generous, and I decided to pay and file electronically. In theory, we’ll have our refunds in a couple of weeks. Yay! This should cover the bathroom remodels (DIY, not paying anyone to do it) as well as the closet in the middle bedroom and maybe even window coverings for all bedrooms.
In other news, um, I’m still in my bathrobe and I need a shower. I also need to run to the grocery store today. And vacuum. And empty the dishwasher. And maybe do some laundry. Or not. We’ll see.
I’m just happy about the refund. In fact, I’m thinking I need to adjust my withholding so we don’t get so much back next year. I’ll take care of that when I get back to work.
I think I need some celebratory chocolate. Good thing I’m going to the grocery store…
I’ve used software to do my taxes for several years now. Always get money back. (Really need to adjust my withholding so I’m not getting back so much; maybe this wlll be the year.) Money always shows up quite quickly (my state refund typically takes a week to show up in my account, the Feds about two).
Tortillas turned out better than the last ones. I figure if I practice for a few weekends, I might get the technique down. I’d like to be able to make them well enough so that I can make them with my niece and nephew.
Made scrambled eggs garnished with avocado (for those of you who have been following my fascinating life, you’ll sense a theme and probably guess that I bought one of those little mesh bags of avocados the other day). Mixed salsa in with the eggs. Yumm.
Now I’m off to Target and church (not sure in what order yet). Need to get a birthday card for this afternoon and maybe something to bring along.
It’s cold but gorgeous out today. Maybe I’ll get that walk in, too…
It is cold and sunny here. Some people are still without power due to the ferocious winds that hit here on Friday. One of our friends came over yesterday to hang out because he didn’t have power for over 24 hours. He went home around 9:30 p.m. to see if he had power and it was finally on. He was really happy as he had about $2,000 worth of meat in his freezer. Well, that and it was friggin’ cooooooold in his house.
Mr. Taters and I are going to assess the gate situation and take off at about noon and buy what we need to fix the gate. We definitely need one new post, most of it was ripped off when the gate was torn from the post. We need new hinges and a new latch too. The hinges are twisted beyond belief and scattered around my yard.
I’ve used Turbo Tax for the last several years to do my taxes. I never get a fortune back, but so far, I’ve done alright. I still need to do my taxes.
Dinner tonight will be a chicken noodle casserole thingie. I have a bunch of leftover chicken breasts, so I’m going to use them for that. Warm comfort food is just the thing on a cold day.
Well, I better get going. Going to cruise the SDMB, check my e-mail, and get cleaned up.
We watched the weirdest movie last night. It was a bootleg copy of a Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak) movie, and it was about how some gangsters stole his elephants. Really.
So he follows them to Australia, and kicks a lot of ass. There was a cool capoeira fight.
The really really weird part of it was the the subtitles had nothing to do with the movie. Nothing. It was hallucinogenic. He’s be screaming something like, “Where’s my elephant?!” and the subtitles would read, “Hey, pretty lady. You’ve got detention.” There was also a lot of “speaks Serbo-Croatian”. Everyone in the movie was Thai or English-speaking Caucasian.
“From The bowel, without a towel”. “Hey, kid! Gonna see the principal?” “Down with the shiznit”.
So weird. I kept wanting the subtitles to match up, and sometimes they almost did, but inappropriately. Weird.
We watched Saw II last night. I dunno, I think the first one was better; but the hubby liked this one. Maybe I’m remembering the first one incorrectly. At any rate, it was okay, but gory.
We watched a movie about a month or two ago that was in a foreign language. I want to say Russian, but it may have been something else. We had more fun making up dialogue than reading the subtitles because the movie was just so awful. We were cracking up so much. I can’t remember the title of the movie.
Back from my run to the grocery - it’s still in the 20s here, maybe touching 30 before sunset. FCD is up and about - doing a wee bit better. I felt sorry enough for him that I bought the makings for a devil’s food cake with fudge frosting. I’m so nice to him.
I find it interesting that the ads are for hair removal, including pubic hair removal or shaving. I don’t believe I said, or even hinted, anything about pubic hair. I helped FCD shave his neck (throat) - you know - the part that holds his head upright. He’s no longer flexible enough to get his throat down to his pubic region, if he ever was… Silly ads.
What do you call a dish where you put some chicken breasts in a covered dish, add some olive oil, garlic, herbs, a splash of water, cut up vegetables, then bake? Is it a casserole? Doesn’t seem to fit casserole (which to my mind requires a can of Campbell’s Condensed Cream of Something) and it’s not a stew. I need a French or Italian word for this dish, so when I make, serve and eat it, it will sound better than “some stuff I cut up and baked”.
It’s deceptive out there–bright and springlike to look at, but it’s too cold to do any yardening outside. At least it’s warmed up a few degrees. I am psyching myself up for a tromp in the woods as to not spend all of Sunny Sunday inside. Besides, a tromp in the woods will make the stuff I cut up and baked taste even better.
Dunno…baked chicken stew? Back from various and sundry errands.
Re-thinking the birthday party thing as tummy is feeling funny. The open house lasts till 7, so I’ve still got a bit of time. The thought of lots of people and food makes me queasy at the moment, though. I figure I’ll sit around and read for a while and see if things settle down…
I’m going to go bake a medicinal chocolate cake for my poor patient. He’s snoozing now, so I can work undisturbed. Plus it’ll warm the kitchen, so there’s that.
