That self-flipping pancake is pretty badass.
Lily really is her fathers’ daughter.
The restaurant scene was classic.
Lily’s assumption that “gay” was a heritage thing was interesting - as a straight guy, I never considered that…
You mean the flipjack?
Justine Bateman as older Haley was great. I’m wondering why they never showed older Claire.
And the scene where Phil was telling all the kids exactly the opposite of what Claire wanted while the toaster was on fire was hilarious.
Phil mentioned something about her [their mom/Claire] probably never being around in the future. Also, Claire’s mom (Dede/Shelly Long) isn’t around much either.
Great episode. Didn’t realize that was Justine Bateman.
I knew she looked familiar but could not place her face.
Great episode full of classic lines. “You’re not gay you’re just confused.”
Slight time discrepancy: I doubt that Jay was working as a coat check boy 40 years ago since 40 years ago he was married with a kid. 50 years ago, maybe.
He mentioned being in the service in another episode and referred to his “war injury” last night; was Jay supposed to have been in Vietnam? If so, he could tell Lily a few things about it. Though that might kind of scare her.
“I hate Vietnam!”

“Gay isn’t something you’re born with oh God am I saying this!”
[Mitch to Cam about his hands]“Just sit on them.”
I wonder how many takes they had to do to make that pancake pop perfectly. That was amazing!
“It’s just a phase you’re going through!”
Cam’s line about how “everybody should go back to where they came from” reminded me of a scene from S1 where Cam and Mitch are complaining about a couple of Ivy League women they know. “She should go back to Columbia and take her little Brown friend with her.” Right as Gloria and Manny walk past.
Adult Luke - “I have to get these shoes back to my roommate!”
So who’s going to walk Luke down the aisle?
When Phil was listening to adult Luke talk about his long day in court: “Please be a lawyer please be a lawyer…”
“I got probation!”
It turns out there’s already a Flipjack. Comes complete with ridiculous does this ever happen to you?! moment.
I have to confess that I’d order one of those if the Amazon reviews weren’t so bad.
They’re not self flipping though. Anyone with two skillets can do that. I think we need more research into this area, the Isp of popcorn, vector analysis to locate the proper place for kernels in the batter, optimal pancake diameter, I’m already forgetting what spatula is for.
Cam’s expression while he was sitting on his hands.
“So we decided to call in the big guns.”
“I got probation plus time served. Suck it!”
“The obvious conclusion is — they’ve been kidnapped.”
And every single one of Mitchell’s exclamations of self-disbelief.
