Productivity has ensued. I got a couple of big cukes and a basket of 'maters from the Amish market. The cukes and a sweet onion have become cuke salad. Critter fountain has been cleaned. Dishwasher has been emptied and refilled. Peach crisp has been built, baked, and is cooling on the counter. The ice maker is making ice. And I just helped FCD do his daily exercises. His bend is over 130° and he can get his leg very nearly perfectly straight!
Plus his pain meds let him get a decent sleep for the first time in eons. So it’s a good day!
Nice morning at the park.
We were there for two and a half hours, both of mine were ready to come home. Echo didn’t even join in with the other dogs that started playing as we were leaving.
I don’t know why the dogs do that. They stand around not doing a thing until somebody gets up to leave. Then they wrestle and chase each other all the way to the gate.
FCM, I saw a video about lies parents tell their children and right in the middle of ‘The Tooth Fairy is allergic to dust and won’t come if your room is dirty’ and ‘The Ice Cream Man plays the jingle so you know he’s out of ice cream’, was ‘The Lady at the store said you are too big to wear diapers and she won’t sell them to me anymore’. Supposedly it worked.
My son finally got his snow ball at irk. Snowball night kept getting cancelled, but last night he got Blueberry. He wants to know what Cactus Juice, and damned if I know, I looked it up and didn’t see a definitive answer.
I need to do some laundry today.
I never got a nap yesterday and I am feeling the need for one today.
She hasn’t worn a diaper in months, and except for bedtime, no pull-ups either. They even tried getting her underpants with her favorite TV characters (Paw Patrol!!) but no dice. We’re holding out hope for the teacher and the stickers.
Waiting for a text that they’re on the way so I can go pick up lunch. Or maybe I’ll just have it delivered - it’s probably worth $5 not to have to leave the house. Decisions, decisions…
ETA - they don’t take credit card payment - just Google Pay. I’ll go pick it up. I don’t need Google holding my credit card number.
Morning all. Its 11:00 and only 86F. Fall appears to be showing its face, I hope its not too cold at Halloween, I like seeing monsters and princesses, not coats and hoodies.
The mining museum was closed yesterday, but the gold mining claim office was open. As it is open by appointment only and I don’t want to buy a mining claim, I had never been inside. The older gentleman behind the counter seemed happy enough to chat with me. He told me some stories about mines and miners and also told me that I could buy a mineral claim for some sort of almost valueless stone out in the middle of BLM land for almost nothing, but it came printed up all official looking with the leasers’ name and all. He said those are pretty popular at Christmas and made me sad for a moment because I know that my dad would have loved getting one.
For the last couple of weeks, I’ve seen notices on Nextdoor for a new farmers market a few towns over. My kitchen garden is going gangbusters, but I like to support local businesses so I went this morning. It was rather disappointing, but everyone has to start somewhere. I bought a loaf of sourdough bread and I hope they do well.
I should take advantage of the cool day to deal with the weeds by the road, but I don’t wanna. I thought about bribing myself by allowing myself to stitch for three strands first, but I know how that would work out, so I am NOT allowing myself to touch my needlepoint until I at least get the side part cleaned up. I can’t see that part unless I’m driving, so its kinda out of sight, out of mind.
Did I tell you my new truck has heated seats? I never thought I’d care about such frivolous stuff, but I think I’m in love.
My maternal grandma had three gigantic black walnut trees in her side yard, up by the highway. The (Michigan) state highway dept decided they were too close to the road and came along and cut them down and carted away several thousands of dollars worth of beautiful wood.
Anyway, my dad said that the way to de-husk them was to throw them in the driveway and drve the truck(s) over them. It sorta worked, but was messy, but at least we got some walnuts to crack, eventually.
We had sprinkles over night with a high of 66f today and more light rain tonight. I didn’t seem like it rained much, but looking at the hills across the river, it seems it took a lot of the smoke out of the air.
Wifey said she was gonna make us some oatmeal for breakfuss, but then she picked up her phone. I may have to do it myself.
Red Sox win, now time to sweep the back deck, as it’s covered with leaves and black walnuts. Then I think it’ll be some quality book time.
I’ve heard the drive over the black walnut trick before, but my driveway is (formerly) gravel. At this point it’s just grass with two gravel tracks, so it doesn’t really work.
Same here - muggy enough that if you take a deep breath outside, you risk drowning!
Nice visit with daughter and the RoxStar. I just took them home, and quiet reigns again. On the ride home, we were discussing how Roxy would handle sharing toys with her brother. But by the time he starts to get interested in toys, she should be old enough to understand sharing. Plus she’s undoubtedly learning about that at school.
I did suggest that Roxy buy a Christmas present for her brother (even tho he’ll just be a month old at Christmas.) Daughter thought that was a good plan. It will be interesting watching the dynamics develop.
For now, tho, max chillage mode. Peach crisp later. Yum!
sari, IIRC, the cactus juice flavor at the raspada stand tended to be something akin to melon and lime.
bumba, ain’t heated seats da bomb?!!
Moooooooom, when my baby sister’s kids were young, all of their toys were communal save one per child. That special toy must be surrendered immediately upon demand if someone else was playing with it.
It’s drizzled here most of the day, ruling out going to the dog park and sweeping up the patio. I didn’t get the new printer installed, but the new Roku is. I left the old one in the other port, since it still works, just not if it’s drained the batteries or they have just been replaced. Eventually, it’ll give out and the new one will already be set up.
Howdy Y’all! Mowage got completed and then after a shower, we decided to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day by goin’ to the bar up the road and havin’ cheeseburgers, fries, and a beer for N.O,L. Then nappage got achieved. All in all a good day. Oh, and it has rained on and off all afternoon so we done good by gettin’ the yahd mowed this mornin’. Thus has been the day.
Afternoon all. Soccer has been coached and refereed, so I am now off my feet and hopefully can stay off them for a few hours (sore, they are). There was a prediction of thunderstorms moving in all day, but in the end we never got any so all the games went ahead. I actually feel pretty good, the cloud cover and temperatures in the 70’s (albeit with a lot of humidity) plus a 2-hour break between coaching and refereeing made it a little less stressful.
And just looked outside and the rain has started in earnest. So looks like we timed in perfectly for soccer today.
Busy day. I went and got the oil changed in the Prius. Then I went to Xfinity to return the old modem. While I was there, I transferred my mobile fromBoost to Xfinity and got a new iPhone SE. It was $399 minus a $300 promotion, so it was only $99 payable over 24 months. Four dollars and change per month. It was either spend $69 for a new battery for the iPhone 6S, or spend $99 for a new, better phone. The Xfinity girl set it up for me and transferred all of my data after installing the new OS on the SE. Then I went to the former Cash & Carry for some bacon. Man, it’s gotten expensive! $33 for five or six pounds. I also got too much hard salami. Then to the grocery store for gooshy cat food. The shelves were not well stocked, so I got what I could. Came home and made a burrito out of the chili I made the other day, and also had a bowl of chili.
On hold with Xfinity now, because The Missus informed me that she can’t get to Prime since we got the new modem. I did opt to get a call-back, but it wouldn’t accept my entry to speak with a representative. I called back, and this time I’m just waiting on hold.
Today’s major accomplishment was cutting down the big boxes and hauling four loads (including my ordinary trash) to the dumpster. I’m midway done with filling up the bookcase. We got a cloudburst earlier. I loved it. Ma Nature finally remembered us!
I got lovely flowers from my brother and his wife. They arranged for early delivery since I won’t be home much on Monday. And I have several cards I’ saving to open. I’m feeling [blush] kind of loved.
True confessions: I’ve never understood the attraction of heated seats. I’ve been in cars with 'em, but they warm the one part of my anatomy that doesn’t really get cold. I guess I have hot, cross buns.
It’s all a nefarious plot to get to spend more time on the phone with you. The “Xfinity ambassador” is probably Lenny the Custodian, who has to cover the receiver so you won’t hear the laughter. I hope you get this straightened out soon.
swampy, I don’t often comment on your posts, but I always love 'em.
What a great idea, missred! My kids were 9 years apart and different genders, so this wasn’t an issue, but it would have saved some squabbles between my sister and me when we were kids. You had smart parents!
I initiated a chat, and then I got a call from Xfinity. Once again, neither Prime nor Peacock connected. I decided to try YouTube. It failed too, but it said to check my network settings. I did, and there was the new network that was set up yesterday. All it needed was the password. Now we have our apps back.
Made this yesterday. Adjusted the seasoning (2x) and chicken (1.5), added some carrots with extra wine, used Camolino rice and cooked it for 6 minutes.
Still fantastic. Probably will use a little less rice next time, because just for the 2 of us, it’s a lot of food, and I don’t think it will freeze well.
Went for a walk yesterday along the Kapellenweg (Chapel Way) and went past a chapel which literally has bats in the belfry. Here’s a video of the bats coming home to roost (be careful, at 1:48 the 5 am bells start). Very cool.
Today is for staying home as it’s supposed to pour much of the day. Salmon for lunch, and then I’m making chili for later in the week. It’s always better the next day, so that works well.
Was thinking of baking something today, but don’t feel like walking over to the farm store to get eggs. I’m very sore from yesterday’s walk, plus rain.
Might be some tequila in my future, but probably should have breakfast first.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin and cloudy/rainy(ish) out with a predicted high of 82 and rain off and on for the day. The big plan of the day is deheathenization (we have refreshment duty and are bringin’ Chips Ahoy and Oreo snack packs, fruit cups (the fruit cocktail kind with the little cherry in each cup cause we’re classy), lemonade, and water. The idea is simple refreshments outside (there is a covered area) after deheathenization to give people a chance to socialize a bit. We shall have N.O,L. at Sonny’s BBQ. The rest of the day shall be spent honin’ our sloth skills.
Die neat video! Loved the bats and the bells.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
