I remember seeing pictures of the original clusterf**k And thinking “That’s not a canal, that’s a fookin’ ditch!”
We had a fun weekend. We’ve been looking for pickup truck, thinking it would be useful during our move, and I was looking online saturday night and saw an add from the place where Wifey bought her Hyundai, and said as much. She said she’d call the guy 'cause she thought he was nice, and she did yesterday morning. He said he had a couple of trucks that met our requirements, so we went down there that afternoon, and we bought one. A 2018 GMC Canyon. It’s a nice little truck, but on the way home we hit a stretch of nice new pavment and noticed a vibration that shouldn’t have been there. Turns out that that year Canyon had a problem with the transmission. So the truck is back at the dealership and I’m driving a loaner. Altima.
Maybe we’ll get it back tomorrow.
We like risotto and make it frequently, but I don’t like all the stirring. And we have an instapot. Somewhere. Anyway, i printed out the recipe. Thanks.
I am itchy. Again. The meds aren’t working, so I have to return to Seattle for a dermatology appointment Monday, which is my birthday. Not how I’d planned to spend the day, but I’ll figure out a way to celebrate getting to spend 65 years on this crazy, beautiful, interesting planet.
Hey, I may have to keep a jar of crickets and a blender around for when strangers knock on my door. “Yeeesssssss?” I’ll say throatily while leering at their earlobes. Who needs a security alarm?
nut, hope the move goes smoothly. In addition to the hard candy swampy recommended, start every sentence with “In my day,” and interject “You call that music?” as needed. Oh, and I heard the cool kids call each other “whippersnapper” now.
sari, what the heck is with those mortgage people? How do they stay in business?
As the late lamented Walt Kelley would surely remind us, Friday the 13th falls on a Monday this month.
Beware!
As for me? Well, today is the day to get my every-other-year dreaded Smog Check. Wish me luck!
Seriously. My fershlugginer vehicle has had an intermittent Check Engine light for many years now. It goes on for while, and off for a while (“a while” generally being for several days or weeks at a time). As long as it happens to be OFF when I get my smog checks, the car has passed for the last several years. But if it should happen to pop on just as the test is getting started, then shit. I’ve gotten a tentative diagnosis as to what the intermittent problem is, and an estimate of about $800 to fix it.
Well, I’m there (or here?)… Didn’t get here til nearly 7, due to being a bit rubbish at getting on with packing.
I don’t especially stand out in the house age-wise, but the other 3 in the house, who all seem nice, are all doing PhDs, and are all overseas students (it’s a bit unusual here to have postgrad UK students living on campus) and have all been here at least a year. Luckily my room’s big, 'cos there ain’t no spare space in the kitchen, as everyone has expanded to fill all available space. I’m going to go buy a mini-fridge for my room tomorrow, as everyone’s got a bit used to having a fridge each. I drove past an IKEA on the way here, and I’ve got tomorrow off and the spare cash. No point making life difficult if I don’t have to.
Luckily I’m at least 6 inches taller’n everyone else, so I can use the pantry top shelf uncontested.
Anyway; most of the car is unloaded, wine and a feeble attempt at dinner has happened, and I’m exhausted. Everything else can wait for tomorrow.
Welcome to your new home, Nut. May your house-sharers be slightly more mature than previous ones (unless I am confusing you with boo fae).
Bumba, congrats on the pickup (once it comes back from the shop). And your right, Suez is basically a big ditch dug at sea level 1859-1869 and not much has changed since then (Panama is not at sea level and needs locks, which made it a whole lot more complex).
Guess I should have said 20-25 years, I’ll only be 83 in 15 years and hopefully the Depends can wait until after that…
Went down to the main tax office and it took all of 3-4 minutes to take my money; so that is done for the year.Rewarded myself with some nappage, soccer in about 2 hours.
Congrats of getting mostly unloaded and on such an uneventful trip. I hope you get comfortable fast!
It’s cooling down again, I doubt it will be over a hundred today which makes my plants happy.
Hubs declared a pajama day today as is his right. I’m slightly grumpy because he waited until I was already dressed to do so.
I only have one side of border left on my needlework, so my plan is to finish today after I find something to binge watch. Well, listen to. Actually use as background noise and basically ignore to be honest.
Kinda new here at the MMP, but I have some Monday moaning to do! Got a call from the local constabulary to inform us our car had been busted into, along with several neighbours in the allegedly secure underground garage. Not much in there to be stolen, other than emergency kit stuff, and I hope they can use the $10 Tim Horton’s card. Upon reflection, I am glad we are on the “they broke the window I’ll call the insurance company” side rather than “my life is so desperate I’ll risk prison for a few bucks.” Thieves left expensive stuff like golf clubs, tools, and more in other cars, hardly an international ring of jewel thieves, except for the gem-like sparkle of the broken tempered glass.
Passed a demonstration of anti-vaxers, mask-holes, and right wing conspiracy “theorists” on my way to radiation therapy. I say “theorists” because theory takes brains, and I wasn’t seeing much of that there.
Older fellow ahead of me for rad therapy was unclear in the concept of “please have a full bladder before your appointment” so had to wait while he drank some water and waited to feel full. Meaning I was about to explode before I got on the machine.
On the other hand, all the staff were fabulous, as always. Their emotional labour is a wonder to behold and benefit from.
Am no,e, the hummingbirds are in the fountain, my typewriter is repaired and replatened being shipped home, my partner loves me, and I her, and so, when you get right down to it, aint’ it a grand Monday!
She had been in cloth diapers for much of her babyhood. There was a brief (heh) switch to pull-ups, but since potty training began in earnest, she’s been in underwear. She just doesn’t care about wet or poo. We don’t understand. And bribes didn’t help - she’ll ask for her skittles when she uses the toilet, but doesn’t seem to mind not getting treats when she wets herself. The kid is an enigma… or something.
The little picnic table is a hit.
She had her snack there when I brought her home, then she wanted to eat supper out there, followed by doing art on it. Not bad for something rescued from the garbage! But she’s almost too big for it. Still, it’ll suit her brother for longer than she’ll be able to use it.
I stopped at Aldi for some greenies, and I grabbed a calzone for supper. It wasn’t very good - maybe if I’d had some sauce for it. But I’m fed and the day is pretty much done. Tomorrow, I’ll bring the exercise bike upstairs for FCD. But first, I have to take him to a meeting that starts at 8:30. I’ll sit in the car and read while he does what he has to do. Then when we get home, I’ll change into grubbies and pull more weeds. So a fun day ahead!
Howdy Y’all! We pretty much slothed the day away. Also da cave got spiffed, so yay for that. Sup has been et, the biiiiiiiig trash can is back where it lives all week (they were late with pickup today), and all is well.
I read all, but comprehension is beyond me right now, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around as needed.
So the TVs are in, well two are in and much too close together, my feeling is that we should go to two farther apart and stick a smaller one that shows the beer list between, but I’m just the help, what do I know. The contractor installed outlets and data connections with no knowledge of how big the TV are, so we’re stuck with that. I did get the other 2 installed and 1 of them working, the last seems to have a non-working outlet. Fun times of standing awkwardly on a bar-top/ladder situation hoisting displays while coax cable it installed. (At this point shouldn’t there be a better alternative than coax to run through a structure?)
Time to ponder dinner. Big ole salad? A bowl of baked beans? Burger? I really don’t feel like cooking much. We shall see.
Well, y’all finally got to me: I ran and emptied my dishwasher today.
I also called the bariatric center, and talked to the nurse practitioner’s nurse (heh). No apology for the 1.5 weeks of silence, but she did seem genuinely surprised that it had happened. Anyway, she talked with both the NP and the patient coordinator — in real time, while I was on a brief hold — and said my insurance approval request was being submitted today (I’m opting to not spend much time wondering whether it might have been submitted a week ago had I called then). She also said that approvals can take up to three weeks (!). So, right now there’s nothing for me to do but wait and get my last three pre-pre-op tests done (two are scheduled; the last one will be scheduled after a consult next week).
Fun fact I learned today:
My favorite manager (upon whom I might be developing a slight & utterly inappropriate crush) was born the year I graduated college.
I feel so f#$%@ old.
(I’ll never act on this, of course. It’s just my stoopit brain amusing itself while I’m at irk. But good goddamn, I feel like a cougar robbing the cradle just looking at him now.)
shoe, crushes aren’t so bad…and what’s 24 years difference, anyways…
Oopsie, still would keep an eye on the submittal, they said they did it today…but…
Lovely picture, FCM. She could have a career as a model (once she stops pooping her pants…)
Russian, believe me, you can moan any day of the week. Just glad the damage wasn’t any worse. And I never knew you needed a full bladder for radiation treatment (since I’ve never had any yet). It’ll be fine as long as they don’t ask me to stand up for the treatment…
Soccer has been coached, nappage taken, and McDonald’s Quarter Pounder Deluxe consumed (not at all bad, IMHO). Will watch some tackleball and do some internettin’ tonight. All ya’ll take care.
So there I was, minding my own business during Lunch, working on yesterday’s LA Times crossword puzzle when the door opens and in walks my Boss (Pro-Tem), her Boss, and one of her bosses. My first response was “Is this a whack?”
Nah, just the Superintendent, Lead Assistant Principal and a school board member. Just stopping by to see how I was doing since they hadn’t seen me for a few months over Summer. I love my District. They have the occasional person who cares. Of course, it helps that the school board member is someone I have taught with and have known for 35+ years.
Hmm, that may be an excellent point. I’ll contact the patient coordinator tomorrow, saying that I just want to make sure I don’t need to do anything else at this time. Thanks!
