Throwing in another interview, for a dispensary that’s just opening, about 45 seconds drive from home. I can walk there.
Interview is tomorrow morning. Throw me some Mumpers. I’d really like this to work out.

My co-irker who was born in Mexico said I had to cheat on my carb-limiting because she made the rice and the beans. So I had maybe a tablespoon of each. Otherwise, I had some chicken and onions and red- and green peppers that she sautéed up as taco filling, and the chicken taco salad I’d assembled from the kit I bought at Costco this morning. I couldn’t bring myself to cheat enough to have a tamale from a place nearby that makes them every day.
… and? How was?
good luck… … you know someone should open a bbq place that also sells bud …id never leave lol
My reunion last Friday evening was the first event with a lot of people we where we have gone unmasked since Covid began. Sunday evening I had a sore throat and by noon Monday I was realizing that my coughing and sneezing were more than just allergies I was sure it was just a nasty cold. Yesterday Sunflower called the doctor for recommendations on treating and what did we need to do to schedule a Covid test. We went to a drive through location for the test.
I just got the call and the test was negative.
Now I don’t have to send out a mass email to my classmates…
I actually hit the road on time this morning! AND the traffic gods totally smiled on me!! None of the usual trouble spots was any trouble, and it was fairly smooth sailing all the way up I-95 (a few lane closures here and there, but never enough traffic to make them a problem). I stopped at my favorite travel plaza 90 minutes into the trip: mostly to use the restroom, but also to get some soft pretzel bites from Auntie Anne’s. However, it was only 9:30am and the Auntie Anne’s wasn’t open yet. I wasn’t really hungry, so it was probably just as well. I’ll get some on the way home.
I pulled into my mom’s best friend’s driveway right at noon, almost exactly four hours after I left my driveway. Taking the brief stop into account, four hours is pretty good time! She and her husband and I went to lunch (I made up for the morning’s disappointment by ordering a jumbo soft pretzel appetizer), and we had time for some quality visiting/catching up before the car service arrived. I checked into my hotel at around 3:20pm. About an hour later I tried to take a nap, but nappage would not ensue so here I am. I really hope I can make it through the late show! I think once I’m out and hearing music I’ll get a second wind.
Knowing that I can sleep in tomorrow — with no particular place to be until dinnertime — will help. I turn 50 on Tuesday, so I’m still aways from retiring. I don’t expect to be able to stop working much before 70. Most days I don’t get up very early, but it’s a little earlier than I’d wake up if I were able to follow my natural sleep pattern. Today’s alarm went off a lot earlier than I’d wake up if I were able to follow my natural sleep pattern.
Almost time to get spiffed up, head downstairs, and see about getting a Lyft to the early show…
shoe!!
Last dispo I worked at, we kept bugging the management to open taco trucks in our parking lot.
“They would make sooooooo much money!”
But shit like this happens:
hippie Yay on the neg test, and good luck with the rest of the bug.
shoe
flyboy Your talk of mexican has inspired me to marinate some chickie thighs in yoghurt, lime juice, and spices to make some tacos. Thinkin I’ll fire up the grill and do those and some street corn.
misnomer (sorry, I forgot your mumper nick) Happy 50th! I had mine a couple months ago.
I apparently tweaked my back hanging TVs. Now it feels like I’ve got sciatica in both legs. Getting old sucks, but I suppose it beats the alternative of not getting there.
Seconded (because I didn’t’ feel like searching for the emojis myself.) A 45 second commute would be pretty sweet!
We’re home after a stop at Cracker Barrel for a couple of veggie plates. I’m suddenly exhausted. I may sleep with Mel again tonight.
Yay for Pixel eating well sunny!
shady, the BBQ - bud mash up would be a self perpetuating money machine!
unknown, I still do some simple embroidery, but have done needlepoint, cross stitch, crewel and plastic canvas projects before. My mom got us girls started about the same age as yours did.
Moooooooom, given that I’m still required to mask for irk, I pull out a fresh one each irk day and keep a weekend one in the car or my purse if I’m not driving. They go into the hamper when I change from goin’-out-in-public attire to loaf-around-the-house clothes.
shoe, one of our local BBQ chains used to have a hella BBQ taco salad. They would fry up a fresh taco bowl, put in lettuce, cheese, baked beans and pulled pork and serve it with a side of the best house made bread and butter pickles I’ve eaten that my mom didn’t make. Good luck on your interview.
Glad you don’t have the plague hippy. Feel better soonest!
I had a review with my new boss this morning. Apparently, I wasn’t where I should be numbers-wise, so she put me with a trainer for a couple of hours. Oy, gevelt! The woman who trained me told me that all Samsung phones (and that’s close to half of what we process) had to be manually cleared. I didn’t even know how to clear them via USB. Now they’re giving me more time to work on speed. I think that once I get the rhythm, I’ll do fine, as I was making 80% of production goal doing things by hand.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I thought beans were ok for net carbs. Are they a high carb food?
Hippy I’m glad the test was negative.
Have fun!
Red I’m glad someone is training you. It sounds like it should have happened a while ago.
The high today is 73. We’ve been hitting 100 for so long that it feels very strange. Temps will go up again, but we’re supposed to get rain Friday/Saturday. I hope it helps the fire situation. It’s early in the season for rain here. Fingers crossed for a wet winter.
Howdy Y’all! Been an innerestin’ day of talkin’ about HVAC service contracts. OK, not innerestin’. I felt like I was at irk again dealin’ with oh so borin’ stuff, ‘cept I was not gettin’ paid to do so. Anywho, I shall figure it all out and make sense of it all. Or not. Sup was good, so there’s that. Plus it did not interfere with naptime, a thing that irk always interfered with.
shades I think most of the bbq places around here sell Bud, so I don’t understand why they don’t where you are. Oh…wait… you said bud as in that maryjane stuff.
Hippe yay for negative COVID test!
oopsie enjoy the concert.
shoe appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed re the interview.
red imagine that! Actually trainin’ someone to like, do the job said someone is supposed to be doin’ as opposed to you know, sayin’ “here it is, have at it!”
I just took the hike out to deposit the recycling bin and almost twisted an ankle on the damn black walnuts. Seems the wet hot summer has led to a bumper year for the bastards. Picture a couple bushels of limes dumped on the yard that slowly turn to black goo. I’m not sure if I should pick them all up or just mow them and hope they don’t turn into projectiles.
Friggen things are food for the squirrels, too. Last oil change, the guys said my air filter box was full of walnut shells, as is my attic.
The trees do have beautiful wood, though. I am making part of my living off of them, but they could be more considerate about the nut droppage.
Up from napping, and having an Old Fashioned.
100100
Still, $400 of car rides for maybe $200 in airline tix is…a lot.
Nut" “this location has been continuously inhabited since the Neolithic!”
Intern, Ministry of Domiciles: “Our records indicate that this is not a residential area. the records are not wrong.”
That’s crazy talk!
Glad you’re negative, Bumba!(in a good way)
Evening all. Soccer has been practiced and plans are underway to take the 12U boys (and maybe the younger ones) to a College soccer game in October. Admission this year is free, so it won’t cost anything if they can only make it a half. Worth the effort, IMHO, but we’ll see.
hippy, glad the COVID test was negative. I was negative in August, but with all the soccer stuff I’ve been doing, I’m thinking of getting another one although I feel just fine.
red, training is a good thing, somebody should have thought of that when they hired you…
shoe, closest I ever worked to my door was 6 blocks away, and that’s when I was in high school. Good luck to ya!
Oopsie, glad the drive went well, and a early happy approaching, nearly-here birthday to you.
Nut, I bet the tax authorities can find you in that ‘non-residential area’. Hope it all gets straightened out.
Sunny, best wishes to Beamer and cooler temperatures.
OK, go watch a little tackleball and take it easy until bedtime. All y’all have a good evening (or good morning for our Euros).
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Always happy to be a bad influence
Itching is not fun, I think it’s just fine if you whine about it once a day. Twice if its bad.
I’m pretty good at putting stuff together if I have to, but the assembly instructions today almost defeat me. I don’t want just a pic with part numbers, I want to know which part goes on first.
Many good wishes for your success tomorrow, shoe. Working in walking distance was always my dream, but it never happened.
Many congrats for that! COVID isn’t that much fun, and telling everyone at the reunion that you were a leper would be even worse.
Your mom was wise and patient
Good for finally getting trained. I used to hate it when I was told to jump in the river and learn how to swim.
I spent most of my afternoon working on my new project and learned once again that I can’t count. It’s all good, I’m only a thread off so I just have to remember to count off my work instead of the pattern. Simple, right?
Everyone has their own thing, needlework is mine. When I’m done with this project, it will end up in the back closet because I’m doing it for fun.
I am enjoying hearing about all the other folks who were taught at my age. Those iron on patterns were a lot of fun!
shoe, seeing as how you are self-taught, there are some terms you might not be aware of. Each strand of DMC has 6 strands or plies. As you know, sometimes the instructions ask for 4 or 6 or 2 plies, whatever. The action of separating them out is called plying.
I like to wet my hand a little with water, then grasp the strand in my palm and tease out the strands with my thumb and forefinger.
The video I linked was pretty good about showing how to stroke, but didn’t mention that we don’t do anything as crass as sew, we lay the fibers on the canvas.
So, to sum it up, first you ply it, then you stroke it, then you lay it.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 87 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for the day. I shall attend to some church janitor JW duties this mornin’ and then spend the rest of the day honin’ my sloth skills. Sounds like a good plan for a stormy day to me! We shall swipe The General’s Sup from the pretty good takeout place for sup.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then. alas, alack, and oh so much bother, I suppose I shall then purtify and don acceptable bein’ about the public attire. Why must life be so difficult!
Happy Firday Y’all!
Happy Firday!
It’s 70 degrees and cloudy, supposed to get up to 81 today.
I’m early because my son got off irk early, but it’s too early to go to the park.
Unless I want to sit there by myself in the dark.
I feel naked when I go out back now. The tree guys took down a good chunk of my neighbor’s tree. All the people across the alley can see into my backyard now.
I hope you are having a good trip Ooopsie
Only thing on the agenda for today is irk., and a nap.
I woke up at 330, and since my son was supposed to get off between 4 and 5, I stayed up.
My shortest commute was roll over, sit on the edge of the bed and pull the computer cart over.
Right now, my office is in the living room.
I’ve been wanting to take up upstairs to the middle bedroom, but I’m still debating. It would get the mess out of the living room, but I would rather be downstairs so I can hear the door, and it’s easier to let the dogs in and out.
Yay for negative tests!
Yay for Friday! I’m EXHAUSTED! They pushed some Windows 10 update on my work computer and now my Adobe doesn’t work. I need Adobe in order to send convert and send documents and upload them to certain systems that only take Adobe documents. I am hoping and praying that someone in IT can fix this stupid mess because my big award deadline is today. I could have been finished last week, but one person opted to wait until this week to get them done and another did them on old outdated forms so now I’m waiting on them. I have to wait, their employees shouldn’t get screwed over because of their tardiness. Finally, one of them can’t help that certain awards aren’t back; her boss in DC has to sign them and there’s been some big…wait for it…Adobe issue there too.
Except for being tired, I am feeling almost normal again. Thank goodness!
It’s currently 55 degrees with an expected high of 71. It’s also supposed to rain. I’m so glad I got the lawn mowed yesterday evening.
