Amen and amen to this! My glider was all-pictures-instructions and it caused me to say bad words. What’s wrong with step-by-step in plain English with a few illustrations as needed? On the other hand, this glider was made in Vietnam - maybe written instructions would have been worse? Maybe they figure pictures are universal, no matter where then ship the item? Still annoys me.
I’ve had to un-crochet two squares so far because of missing a stitch along the way. Normally, I could work around that, but with these, the squares wouldn’t be square and the stripes would come out wrong. On the plus side, they’re about 8X8 or so - it’s not like I’m having to undo hours and hours of work, even if I cuss that way.
I’ve got a small sampler somewhere that I did when I was 6 or so - a nursery rhyme theme if I recall. My mom didn’t have me separate the strands, so the stitches are fat! One step at a time, right?
I had a fairly decent night. I woke a few minutes before the morning meds alarm, and after drugging FCD, I was able to fall back to sleep for another couple of hours. We’re promised overcast, muggy, and some rain today, temps staying in the 70s, but waaaaaaay too humid to open any windows. Plus, dammit, I forgot to cover the pile of firewood ahead of yesterday’s rain, so the wood that was almost dried out now isn’t. Dammit. Luckily, we’re still a couple of months at least from needing to burn it.
Therapy at 10 this morning, but nothing else on the agenda. I’ll push the vacuum cleaner around and finish some seamstress tasks I’ve been avoiding so I can get all the sewing stuff out of the dining room and back in the closet. I need to sort out the stuff on the breakfast bar, too - much crap has been accumulating there. So it looks like an indoor day of mostly miscellany. Except for the drive/wait at the therapy office. So I’ve got that going for me.
unknown, the one thing worse than picture directions is poorly translated ones. My ongoing embroidery project (picked up when I need a break from papercraft) is a set of dishtowels with iron-on kitchy kitchen things like a toaster with Butter me up! text, old school colorful mixing bowls, etc. I have made several sets as gifts from this iron-on package (Aunt Martha’s was a staple from childhood).
VanGo, I would highly suggest picking up the !@#$ walnuts unless you’re planning to mow in full body armor and a face shield helmet. Not only do they have a vicious impact when thrown, the husks are very corrosive and can blind you (or cause you great pain) if they get in your eyes (says the woman who spent one fall / winter as a kid in an eye patch from getting hit in the eye with one). Besides, the nuts make great cake, fudge, banana bread or are good candied.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, a load of sheets and towels in the dryer, a load of clothes in the wash, the week’s menu / grocery list made and the kitchen cleaneded up. That’s about half of the day’s chore list.
Morning all. Soccer practice and the games Saturday are in Jeopardy due to a 70% chance of rain today and tomorrow. The Weather Wizards have been wrong before, so we’ll see. Need to clean myself up anyway, haven’t shaved in a couple of days so that is a priority. Recycleables we’re picked up as expected yesterday, we’ll see if they show up today.
Ok, since newspaper has been rescued from outdoors, we’ll see what’s fit to print and then onward into the day. All y’all take care.
I am so very glad it’s Friday. This entire morning has been an exercise in me almost failing to do things, so it’ll be interesting to see how the day has gone at the end of it. Overlyboy’s teacher emailed me, copying the principal, the cross country coach and his grade-level counselor (college entry counselor to be specific), which about made me poop my pants. It seemed a little excessive but apparently he’d forgotten a couple of assignments. Still, it’s early and fixable and was meant more as a warning to get his shit together, because he’ll be benched from all meets unless he keeps his grades up.
So that happened. Now I’m sitting around, waiting for meeting 1 and listening to the bugs sing (tree frogs have gone to bed hours ago). I might go out for a minute and check on some late summer tomatoes the deer hadn’t managed to flatten…yet. And missred’s post just reminded me I haven’t put the weekly meal plan together either. I am so tired of dinner - do we really have to do this dinner thing every single day?
Will I do the things I don’t want to do today? Time will tell. I’ve got more refinance stuff to get to the bank. I’ve got something to do for my disability insurance.
Pixel is doing this weird snuffle now, like he’s got something in his nose. Knowing him, he does, but they told us to watch out for coughing so I’ll call over to the vet in a while.
'Beamer is up and going to the school on the actual bus! Huzzah! There is great rejoicing.
Remember when I said I was getting ready for call #1, and waiting to see how today would go? WELL…
So I was walking down the hall, about to get on said first call and noticed the kids’ faucet was drippy (their bathroom is on the way to my office). I give it a tug to see if it’s stuck and wound up pulling the wrong way, turning it on more. Then the damn thing breaks off in my hand, so I’m standing around with a now-gushing faucet and no way to turn the thing off. So I ran around, screaming and curing (and waking up the husband), until I found a wrench. I managed to turn it off, but came back to a ton of IMs asking where I was, should we start the meeting, etc., etc.
At least it made for interesting and funny conversation. But, dangit, if that’s how the rest of the day is going I need to start with the tequila.
Guess what happened today?
: crickets :
No literally. A box burst, and a bunch of the little buggers escaped. Now I’ll be watching where I step for the next couple of days(I had to rescue one off the sort table).
talky, eek. And I support the tequila idea.
Glad you’re feeling a little better, Taters. That sucks about the Adobe, though.
Afternoon, mumpers! Also so glad it’s Friday - for some reason this week has been manic. The simple explanation is that our students are arriving and it’s Welcome Week next week so everyone suddenly wants everything yesterday…
I’m exhausted, in fact I was exhausted by Monday afternoon! Can’t believe it’s the start of term again, barely seems five minutes ago that last term started. Oh well, we are as prepared as we can be.
Have read but not retained much…good to hear that nobody’s got Covid, everyone’s pets are eating, and the general levels of TMI and smut are being maintained!
TBH, the rice was rather bland. The beans had ‘something’ in them that I liked, but couldn’t identify. Her chicken/red bell pepper/green bell pepper/onion taco filling was good.
There was street corn as well, but I didn’t have any.
I don’t know. I just see CARBS! and avoid them.
In other news…
What an ordeal! I got a notification the other day that Xfinity was sending me ‘new equipment’ because they detected a flaw in the old equipment we have. Another notification was that the new equipment was a new modem. It arrived yesterday, and I was planning to set it up tomorrow.
Wifey couldn’t connect to the Internet this morning. Her PC is old, and she needs the 2.4 GHz connection. I was connected fine with my 5 GHz connection. I wasn’t seeing our WiFi on her computer, so I called Xfinity. We decided I may as well install the new modem instead of troubleshooting the old one.
I forgot that when I unplug the modem I lose my landline. They called me back on my mobile, and we started the setup. Before we could complete it, the call was dropped. (My mobile carrier is teh suxx0r.) I tried calling back, but couldn’t get through. So I got my wife’s phone. (She has Xfinity Mobile, so her signal is good. I need to switch. Just so little time!) It took a long time to set up the new modem, but it’s working now. I’m connected with 5 GHz and Wifey’s connected with 2.4 GHz. I downloaded the Xfinity app, and it says her Amazon Fire is connected. I just checked it, and it says it’s not. I’m not going to mess with it though, because I have a ton of work to do.
The landline phone wasn’t working. I got into chat with Xfinity and it’s back now.
My iPhone 6S is not holding a charge. It may be time to get a new one (my wife has an iPhone SE) and switch carriers to from Boost Mobile to Xfinity. I contacted Boost Mobile about the poor reception (even though there’s a tower within 2 miles, but they seem not to use that one) and they basically said ‘Sucks to be you.’
And the roof is leaking. The whole thing needs to be replaced, but I don’t have 30 kilobucks lying about.
Do you warn FCD before you start taking things apart? I’ve gotten into the habit of telling hubs that I’ve made a mistake so he doesn’t come running in to find out why I’ve suddenly started swearing. He worries, LOL! (I don’t worry when I hear him cussing and banging things because I assume that as long as he can cuss, he’s probably OK, just bloody.)
Oh, speaking of FCD, I just remembered hub’s surgeon telling me that its important for a person who has had surgery to take their pain meds as prescribed instead of as needed. Their bodies need to be able to fully relax in order to heal and pain keeps you tense. That was ten years ago and the protocol could have changed, but it made a lot of sense to me.
I force myself to decrapify every night. I have a nice area set up in the spare room for stitching, but I don’t like being back there. It’s a nice enough room, but I want to be out in the living room or dining room where everything is happening. I drag my stuff out every day and then put it back because if I don’t, I’ll slowly move everything out of the spare room onto the dining room table.
Today we are going to Black Canyon City for lunch and then I want to go to the little mining museum on Main Street. It’s almost time for the Secret Santa and everyone likes local rocks and gems. The museum is all volunteer run and they get things from the local rock and gem club folks to sell for not a lot of money. Hubs has never been there, so he will want to look around. The whole place is smaller than our living room, so he won’t feel like he needs to rush.
It doesn’t get better with time, it gets worse. There are times when it takes both of us a good hour just to come up with something that sounds interesting.
A broken faucet the first thing in the morning doesn’t bode well for the rest of the day, good luck!
In theory, agreed. In my stretch of Nebraska the PTB have decide to do Interstate construction at night, funneling 3 or 4 lanes into one and bringing out the floodlights to work on the lanes inside the barrier cones. So the one lane left can only go as fast as the slowest truck ahead of me.
My roomie doesn’t need picking up for 12 more days so maybe they’ll move on to screwing up some other stretch by then.
Either way I’ll deal. Don’t have much of a choice.
His recliner is about 10’ from mine - he knows what the cussing is about!
BBBoo - I’ve had to cut way back on my night driving - stoopit astigmatism! I do OK in local areas that I know well, but farther afield, it’s just too hard to see thru the glare sometimes. So until FCD can drive again, we won’t be going anywhere after dark, which will be the majority of time in a few weeks… stoopit seasonal change.
Daughter just texted that one of her students has COVID. But their school has had a strict mask policy, and such a small student body that distancing isn’t a problem. The boy will stay home for 2 weeks (his folks were vaccinated, but he was too young.) She’ll be monitoring Roxy and herself over then next few days or so.
And speaking of the RoxStar, her teacher has promised her a sticker for every day she uses the potty successfully. Apparently it means more coming from the teacher than from her mama. Kids… Anyway, good news on that front - it worked today.
As my day winds down, I continue to make crocheted squares. I watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail today - first time in a long time! I also tried to watch a Brit detective series, but I just couldn’t get into it. I think I’m over police procedurals, regardless of where they take place. I need something else to binge.
Not now, tho. I’m going to finish my salad, then assume the position for the evening.
