Montreal PoutineDope: Coronary in a Bowl

If I can make it up, I will! October would be bad, since I’m away (ahem!) from Oct. 10th to the 22nd.

I would vote for a Sunday or a Friday, since I don’t teach on either day… and could come up for the festivities.

E.

GAH! Now I have to coordinate again! (Not that I mind.)

The original idea of a Montreal mini-Dope in the fall was Eonwe’s, since he couldn’t make it to Doperéal. Then clayton_e posted about his addiction to poutine, hence PoutineDope. Everything hinges on when they can both make it up…

Wow! I feel so loved! A Dopefest in a foreign city centered (or should that be centred) around my schedule! My name’s in this thread 4 times and I haven’t even posted to it yet!

Well, I don’t have my calendar in front of me, but I’m pretty sure that for the next two months or so the only times I could make it would be the 4 Saturdays in October (I’ll check tonight and get back to y’all tomorrow about that). I’ve got rehersals on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons until Thanksgiving in the US, so my fall’s going to be pretty tight travel-wise. I think the 19th of October would be ideal.

Of course, there’s no reason why this has to be about me (I’m not even sure I want to be connected with a party revolving around fried potatos covered in gravy). Since my schedule’s pretty unforgiving this fall, I wouldn’t feel all that bad if this was on a date I couldn’t make it. I can always pop up to Canada sometime on my own and pester dopers there without it being a Dopefest[super]TM[/super].

I second the 19th of October… 'cuz I’m paid on the 18th. :stuck_out_tongue:

But then Elly won’t be able to make it…

And Eonwe, dear, it’s centered around clayton_e (and hopefully Palve) as well as you. Deflate that ego of yours.

You can stay chez-moi… If you dare… bwahahaha!

I vote for October 26-27 Friday and Saturday, so both Elly and Eonwe can come.

And if Elly needs a place to stay, I have one

OK Oct. 26-27 works for me. I can host three people. clayton_e said he might be able to make it, possibly with Palve. If I’m hosting them and Eonwe, then Elly can stay with Laur.

Typical itinerary:

Drinks Friday night, poutine tasting Saturday afternoon, obligatory dinner Saturday, brunch Sunday.

I’ll take care of reservations, etc.

Ottawa Dopers, please come!

Sold!

(And thanks, Laur!)

I have the world’s comfiest couch and two cutest cats, so please, make me feel needed! I can take a crasher, no problem. Barring any allergies on their part, of course.

Wooooooooooo

I get an Elly!

Yeah, yeah, I’ll probably show.

OK… Weekend of October 25-27.

Eonwe’s coming up Saturday morning, staying with me, and leaving Sunday morning. Hopefully clayton_e and Palve can make it too. So here’s what I propose:

Saturday lunch: poutine tasting at either Lafleur’s next to Carré St-Louis, or La Belle Province at Atwater Market.

Saturday dinner: somewhere. Suggestions?

Sunday brunch: Mövenpick?

I can’t take any time off work as I’m saving the rest of my vacation days for Christmas. Luckily this time around I won’t have to spend a week cleaning my apartment.

Elly, are you teaching that Saturday (Oct. 26)? If not, great. If so, perhaps you could join us for the Saturday evening/Sunday brunch festivities…

And I know this isn’t the NYC Megadope thread, but would you be able to pick matt and I up in Montreal? Much simpler than us taking a bus to Eonwe’s place the night before we leave for NYC…

Plus, crossing the border in a car is much less of a hassle than on a bus (apparently it’s sheer hell on the train… ).

I want to come too…

Carine, are you saying you have a desire to come but won’t be able to, or that you’re coming?

I believe there’s a spot on the Couch of Daerlyn®, but she has a tendency to stay up all night and crash at LaurAnge’s place, then conveniently miss scheduled dinners. Be warned!

If I’m welcome, I’ll take work off and bus up to Montreal. I mean, it’s Poutine, who wouldn’t take the 2 hour trek?

How about Mazurka on Prince-Arthur, for Eastern European food ? Or alternately, if people are brave enough to face the wilds of Ahuntsic, L’auberge du Dragon Rouge on Lajeunesse for medieval cuisine. There is a review of the place in this week’s Mirror.

Mazura could be cool, but isn’t their menu rather limited? I’m all in for Polish food, but we have to be sure everyone attending would be OK with more solid food after a lunch of poutine. If we do the Prince-Arthur thing, we could always go to Casa Grecque.

Looks like we’ve got clayton_e and possibly Palve coming up… YAY!

d12, I might just have room for you, but I’ve already got Eonwe, clayton_e, and Palve staying with me. I can take another in if Eonwe’s willing to stay with me in my bed…

I would love to go. I want to try poutine, I want to meet more Canadian Dopers (I met LaurAnge, and she was ace) and I want matt_mcl to give me a short tour of the beautiful Montréal metro (I’ve seen pics and things on his super website, and now I want to see it for real). Want want want. That’s all I am.

I’ve already crossed the Atlantic for one internet gettogether this year, so it might be stretching it, financially to do it again.

:shakes head in disapointment:

How many times do I have to tell you, some things in life are best admired from a distance.
[sub]but Eonwe, aren’t you even quasi-gay?[/sub]
I am very willing to sleep on a floor though. I’ve got a sleeping bag.

I can always dream, Eonwe
