Montreal Sugardope - check-in and itinerary thread

CuriousCanuck: yeah, OK, dude. :stuck_out_tongue: Anyway, post-dinner is catch-as-catch-can, so don’t sweat it if you want to hit less… exotic… venues than a queer dance in the McGill student union building. Do they still have them at Gert’s? Ah, the memories. :dubious:

Itinerary will be posted as soon as dinner reservations are made.

I am sensing some misunderstanding here. But that is ok…

Rest assured that Sat night at the dance is ok.

A week from now, I expect to be in a sugar-induced coma. In the meantime, I’m heading out of town for a couple of days, and I don’t know what my internet access will be like. If you don’t see anything from in the next few days, not to worry – I’m still be there next weekend.

Yo, detop, the directions on the Hermine web site suck (even translated). If you have clearer ones, can you post them?

It would help to know what highway Duke and the Eonwe convoy will be on once they cross the border…

The rest of us are going from Montreal, so we should be OK.

My assumptions are challenged every day, mostly at work. (Me: Here’s your weekly report. Boss: This isn’t in the right format, do it again.)

But really, as for the club and for scott evil’s questions, I’m probably going to have to do a “drive-by.” (Kinda like a lot of my posts, but I digress.) Lewiston, NY is on the opposite side of the state to the Quebec border, and it’s a 6-and-a-half hour drive. Also, I have to go back home on Sunday by way of Robarts Library, University of Toronto. So, unless anyone’s coming from Western New York, and is willing to put up with waiting in the lobby of the Ugliest Building in Canada [tm] while I search the stacks for a few more books to pad out an introduction to a doctoral dissertation…I’m not sure that I can bring anyone along.

I just translated them, with mapquest beside me to check, they seemed clear enough to me.

In any case, here is my translation :
If you take the 138 ouest (Montréal convoy)

Go past Ste-Martine, turn left on the 203, until you reach St-Chrysostome. Then follow the blue panels.

If you take autoroute 15 (best bet for the Plattsburgh convoy)

Exit at the sign for the 202 West, go till Havelock (it’s at the intersection of the 202 and 203), At the flashing light turn right, when you reach the first stop sign, turn left, l’Hermine (the sugar shack) will be 6 kms (about 4 miles) later to your left.

If you’re coming through Valleyfield

Take the 201 until it reaches the 202, turn left, 3 kms (about 2 miles) later, St-Charles road, turn right, go for 1 km, l’Hermine will be on your right.
From the 132, Route 209 (for the sake of completion)

Go to St-Chrysostome
At the first stop, go straight ahead
At the second stop turn right
5 km past that l’Hermine will be on your left.

Thanks. I just wasn’t sure which highways which people would be taking.

Just heard on the news that border crossing requirements have changed. I think this mainly affects Canadians entering the U.S., but our American friends should check to see what kind of I.D. is now needed to enter Canada.

Sooo, I made the reservations for Saturday night, at the Casa Grecque, 200 Prince-Arthur, for 8:30 under the name Cecil Adams (blessed be his name). scott and I couldn’t decide on which Indian or Lebanese restaurant to chose, so we went Greek instead. But they are not exclusively Greek, they cover a lot of culinary ground and you can bring your own wine. And scott, could you post the Drugstore’s address for our out-of-town guests, please ?

Well, keep in mind that some of the Americans might want to re-enter the US (I know, I’m sure you’re wondering why :D), so I’ll check around to see what the new US border requirements will be.

Well if you want to defect, I am sure one of us can put you up somewhere

I simply cannot wait til Friday! This is going to be so much fun!

Right, at long last, the complete itinerary

Friday, March 21:
Meet for drinks at 9 PM at Le Drugstore, 1366 Ste-Catherine est (east), between Panet and Plessis. Metro Beaudry; turn left and cross the street when you exit the metro. Le Drugstore is on several levels. We’ll be there with a sign that says SDMB, and probably a one-legged Wonder Woman doll. After Le Drugstore, we’ll head out for general debauchery. For some reason, we usually end up at Grumpy’s (1242 Bishop).

Saturday, March 22:
The main event: SUGARING OFF! We’re going to the Cabane à sucre l’Hermine, in Havelock, Quebec. (See directions in detop’s post above, and there are links to their web site in this thread.) We have a reservation for 2:30 PM under the name Cecil Adams.

For those going from downtown: Meet at 1 PM out front at the Maritime Plaza Hotel, 1155 Guy (corner René-Lévesque). It’s the hotel with the big-ass round elevated restaurant in front. I don’t think it revolves. This is where JeffB is staying; he has a car, and detop is coming with a friend who has a minivan.

We’ll be eating LOTS of traditional sugar shack fare, and doing other stuff. Hilarity will ensue. I will be bringing my tiara, never fear.

Saturday dinner: As posted above, we have reservations for 8:30 PM under the name Cecil Adams at Casa Grecque, 200 Prince-Arthur. (Metro Sherbrooke, or metro St-Laurent then #55 bus up to Prince-Arthur.) It’s a bring-your-own-wine restaurant. For those wishing to imbibe, there’s an SAQ (liquor store) nearby, or you can try your luck with dépanneur wine. (The quintessential québecois experience…)

After dinner, we might head off to a dance hosted by Queer McGill. It’s a nice walk along Prince-Arthur through the student ghetto. From there, who can say where we’ll end up…

Sunday, March 23:
We’re going to try our luck at dim sum in Chinatown. I’ve been given the name of a place and will investigate. In any case, we’ll be meeting at noon at the St-Urbain exit of the Place-d’Armes metro station. (This is the exit that leads to the street, not to the Palais des Congrès.)

After that, begone!

If you need contact numbers/addresses, email me at scott_evil28@hotmail.com.

See you there!

Bring insulin.

Oh yeah, that’s 200 Prince-Arthur est (east), since it’s east of St-Laurent.

Oh yeah, Casa Grecque is at 200 Prince-Arthur est (east), sicne it’s east of St-Laurent.

And a Pierced Monkey!

Not that kind of monkey, it’s just a beenie baby with piercings!

Sounds good. Any suggestions on how we recognize other Dopers?

Email is on the way.

If anyone needs to get in contact with me, the hotel phone number is (514) 932-1411. You should be able to figure out my complete name if you check my profile.

I will be there for the sugaring off and maybe the Sunday dim sum, events have conspired to make it impossible for me to make the other fun stuff.

New & Improved Scott is, unfortunately, working pretty much all weekend, and though he wanted to go sugaring off, he no longer can.

See you guys on Saturday!

How do you know if the other monkey is pierced or not?

As far as how to recognize fellow dopers, Stephi and I can be recognized from pictures posted on ladydisco’s Ottadope site.

Do yer own search. I ain’t your slave!

Heh.

Anyway, can’t wait till tomorrow. See you all then!

I’ll have an SDMB sign or something.

CuriousCanuck: do you want jeremy evil & I to pick you and Stephi up and go with you to Drugstore?
