More Miscellaneous Morning Musings - An MMP

Flyboy, here’s hoping both your workstation and Goo do much better in the future. And yeah for the lower price on the roof.

FCM, I usually have no problem staying up until 11pm or so–but then I’m much lazier than you are. But today I got up at 6:15am and have a full soccer day ahead, so I suspect tonight will be an early one.

Have read all but absorbed little, so everyone have a good (and hopefully less humid) Sattiday.

Christ, I can smell the (unlit) candle from across the room.

Waaaaayyyyy too much artificial fragrance.

I sooooooo hate most product fragrances. I make sure to buy fragrance-free laundry detergent and shampoo. I can deal with light, subtle fragrances in some products, especially when they dissipate quickly. I refuse to use “air fresheners”, and even Febreeze grosses me out.

I guess it should be reassuring that I still smell the stuff, so I know I don’t have COVID…

Time to shower - FCD is up and about so I can get my day started.

It’s raining here, so I can’t paint my house. Drat! Well my weekend plans are now accomplished, I thought about painting the house. Now, on to sloth.

Happy Saturday!

Nice morning at the park. Eleven big dogs showed up, although never more than ten at the park as Lily left before Ziggy got there. I love a big group; they play more and Echo is less likely to get into trouble with so much activity going on. One woman brought her two daughters with her and her girls asked her if they could just steal Echo and leave.
There were a few ‘incidents’, and I was so happy it wasn’t Echo this time. Then she and Nelson got into it, over a frisbee. Fortunately, Nelson isn’t a wimp and stood up to her, so it was more of a stand-off than a fight. Later they shared a water bowl, so they’re good.

I agree with no scented stuff. I actually get physically ill. I’ll start sweating and shaking, and too much longer I’ll throw up. I really, really hate car air fresheners, plug-ins, and febreeze. Once my mother hid a plug-in because she didn’t believe they bothered me. She thought she was going to have to take me to the hospital because I couldn’t breathe.
When my older niece had her baby shower, I got a several dozen candles in Baby Powder scent to give as party favors. OMG, I thought I was going to die. A few people asked if they could have more than one. I was like yes, please, take them all.

I thought it was supposed to rain all weekend, but from what I hear, that has changed and it’s supposed to be nice.
We have plans for a doggie playdate later, we’ll go visit with Buttercup and Ruby. The last time we were there, Echo kept going after Ruby. They play nicely together at the park now, so we’ll try again.
I’m ordering groceries to pick up tomorrow. May as well get them while I still have my truck, who knows what kind of car I’ll be getting as a rental.
There’s plenty of other stuff to do. I want my son to weed whack along the neighbor’s garage, of the neighbor we like. He cuts our front yard every time he mows his lawn, so we should do that for him. We’ll shovel his walk in the winter too, so he doesn’t have to drive out here to do it.

Morning, all! It’s a dreary day so far: at 10:33 AM ET it’s 67° F and cloudy, with just a touch of humidity. The predicted high is only 73°. I love (love!) the cooler temps, but cloudiness (without rain) and lingering humidity can bite me.

I was up until ~11:30 last night, slept hard/well, and woke up at 7:00 – which is pretty early for me on a day off. It’s been nice, though, because I can compose a long email to my aunt and pay my bills and say hi to y’all and generally putz around online for a while without it being afternoon yet. Bailey’s vet appointment isn’t until 1:30, so we both get a quiet/slow start to our day.

Scented things generally don’t bother me, but I also don’t tend to buy them. Except holiday candles: I have one that is fireplace-scented, and a couple that are Christmas-tree-scented. The fireplace one is great, but once or twice a season is enough; on the other hand, I like having the tree candles at least out/uncovered the whole time my house is decorated (decorations go up the weekend after Thanksgiving and come down on New Year’s Day). These days I don’t have so much as a fake tree, but I like the smell.

A globe? :earth_americas:

I have created the account! Now I must tell them what I have… sigh.

Morning Glory flowers

Happy Firday!

I’ve got a few baby roses to plant, and my mom has a bunch of bearded irises to give me, and they need to get planted. We were thinking about doing it this morning, but I don’t think that will work. I’m going to try and feed Sir Pixel a second time and try some more coffee.

I was silently thinking about shredding potatoes for Hashbrown Saturday.

Mrs. L.A. said she wants pancakes.

If there’s one thing I’ve discovered and implement poorly, it’s don’t ask people what they want to eat, just make what you were planning on. Otherwise, tears and pain results.

That isn’t always true, though. Hubs the idiot had COVID and then caught delta about 6 weeks later. He didn’t lose his sense of smell or taste either time.

I had a bad reaction to scented fabric softener once so we don’t buy scented products anymore. I know it was just once, but once was enough.

Isn’t that a wonderful excuse? Not only can you not paint today, you can’t paint for a couple more days until everything dries out. I’ve been using the rain/wet wood excuse for a couple of days now. If it doesn’t rain again tonight I’ll run out of excuses and will be forced to get up and actually do something. It will be horrible!

This morning we strained 5 gallons of spiced mead. Some went back in the closet to finish, I kept a couple of bottles out because I like the harsh bite and don’t care if it looks a little cloudy. Hubs bought some mulling spices to try and he’s been looking at recipes for coffee flavored mead. The problem with this is that he doesn’t like mead so he doesn’t know the difference between good mead and not so good mead.

The local community center sells breakfast and lunch. We have lived in the area for over 30 years and have never eaten there. We’re going to try it out today and if its OK, we will see about having lunches delivered to our shut in friend. He has said its hard for him to pull something out of the freezer and put it in the microwave, so this might make things a little easier on him.

The vet called to confirm George’s appointment on Monday and VBC grabbed the phone and screamed YES! YES, HE WILL BE THERE!!! DON’T SEND HIM BACK WITH HIS BALLS!!!

I hope the antibiotics are working for Goo, pets can be such a worry at times.

Hey, don’t shatter my illusions, dammit!! :stuck_out_tongue:

We’ve assembled much of what we need to add shelves to the closet in Roxy’s room. We’ve got to stop at Lowe’s in the morning for some supports and brackets, but once we have everything, it shouldn’t take but a couple of hours… theoretically. Then I’ll help her assemble the crib so Roxy can get used to the idea of sharing her room.

Meanwhile, apart from emptying the dishwasher, I’ve got nothing to do. Yay!

Today’s :trophy:is won by V :paw_prints: B :paw_prints: C!! No contest.

Back from lunch and delivering lunch and dinner to our friend. They had a very well stocked salad bar that included chicken salad and rolled slices of meat. Today they were serving meatball subs, which hubs tried and said he would eat again. There were assorted small pastries for desert and surprisingly enough, everything was served on plates/bowls with nice metal flatware instead of paper and plastic.

Not bad at all for 6 bucks and the lady who packed our friend’s to-go box wasn’t content with just one box, she used the first one for his fries and sub, then filled separate containers with chicken salad and desert cakes. (He doesn’t eat rabbit food.)

I really hope he takes our advice and signs up for deliveries, I do worry about him.

Today is George’s 6 month birthday. I’ll post his birthday pic in the pet picture thread cause he’s growing up to be a very handsome kitty and I know that everyone is dying to see him! Hubs bought him some more plastic springs to lose, so he’s having a good day.

Had a moment of panic - I couldn’t find any of the baby’s clothes! I looked in all the dresser drawers, all the closets - even went down to the basement and looked. Then I remembered that I’d moved them into the changing table/printer stand in FCD’s office when he briefly moved out of the office. Whew!

I was trying to figure out why someone would break into the house and just steal a bunch of onesies…

Got a bunch of stuff in the truck to go to Daughter’s tomorrow, since she’ll have storage space for all the baby sheets and such. We need to get there before SIL goes go work so he can help me unload the truck. Weirdly enough, I’m the fittest of the 4 of us, what with SIL’s bad knee. He is wearing a brace, so that’s good. And my daughter can carry some stuff, but not a whole lot. I won’t let FCD carry anything - he has a hard enough time walking up to her house, what with all the steps.

Just finished massaging FCD’s knee - the therapists said it’s good for the scar tissue and a hematoma on the side of his knee. Then I fixed him up with his ice pack on the knee, and I’m about to resume knittage.

Afternoon all. Soccer has been completed for another Saturday, Boys lost and girls won and I refereed two afternoon games in the 85F heat…so I’m a little tired right now.

My sports shoes are all chewed up and falling apart, so I need to do some shopping and get some new ones. All some practice goal shopping, so tomorrow will be sports store day.

Everyone take care and have a good evening. Me, I’m going to try to not walk much for the rest of the day.

Howdy Y’all! I am pleased to report that the veggie soup is a success. YUM! I tend to make up soup as I go along which can make for some good soups, but as a consequence I might not be able to replicate an especially good soup. Oh well, soup should be an adventure, right? Also, the cornbread was good. I also enjoyed the Jawja-Auburn tackleball game. GO DAWGS! WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!

My friend took me hiking today. This is the friend who went unmasked to the huge anti-vaxx, anti-mask rally last weekend. (She has said she’s vaccinated.) I wore a mask while in her car. I got some sidelong frowns, but she didn’t say anything, either because if she avoided the subject, she wouldn’t have to 'fess up or maybe because she didn’t want to argue with me. Anyway, we went to a nature preserve. It was lovely and very serene.

About scents…I don’t like some scented products, like plastic trash bags that supposedly smell like lemon or lavender. However, I have a low “yuck” threshold for certain, uh, bodily smells, pet or human. I use orange oil–works great, plus I like the smell of (real) oranges. Oh, and my daughter gave me a soy-based “library book” candle that really does smell like ink, paper, and leather. I like it a lot.

Talk about multi-purpose! It’d be fun to print on a diaper.

So Jane, your hubby helped you strain even though he doesn’t like mead? Greater love hath no man…

Hopefully he doesn’t return with someone else’s balls.

You’re good people. So is the lady who was so careful about packing your friend’s to-go box.

shoe, I think that your blues would lend themselves to some abstract ocean waves.

Mooooom, I’m ok with some scents, but others will give me a raging headache and / or require the use of an epipen for an asthma attack, so I tend to buy unscented products.

flyboy, you could compromise with MrsLA by making latkes.

metal mouse, if you have a Fleet Feet in your town, check them out. They will scan your feet and watch you walk to check your gait, then fit you for a shoe suitable for your foot, gait and size. I found that one of the three brands they recommended for me ( Brooks ) are the most comfortable shoes that I’ve ever worn.

SIL and I rambled today. We found a wonderful coffee shop, SheBrews Cafe on the square in the little plateau town where she and big Bro used to live. It was most excellent, as was the cinnamon muffin that we split. After wondering around a bit, visiting the creek on the property where they used to live and where we scattered my brother’s ashes, we meandered to another town where they used to live. After that, it was on to the town where I used to live. Since the prison went in there, they have actually gotten a couple of sit down restaurants, one of which was a good Mexican place where we had lunch. Once we got one town from hers, we stopped at a paleta shop for a scoop of ice cream each.

Now it’s home and chilling.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Nothing was said about breakfast until she said she wanted pancakes, so it didn’t matter what I was planning on. I made Krusteaz for her, and keto for me.

I don’t know from latkes. There’s leftover mashed potatoes, so I thought I’d make potato pancakes tomorrow.

Dinner was Shake-N-Bake pork chops, mached potatoes made with heavy cream and margarine (we’re out of butter), and packet country gravy. Comfort food. I was going to make the gravy from scratch, but Mrs. L.A. sent me to the market for spray whipped cream for her cocoa.

Heaved, then helped move a truckload of stuff from one trailer to another(it actually made sense). Watched hockey then napped.
