Feeling really wrung out, so I’m having DoorDash bring my lunch from Golden Arches Catering. They specify maximum order $1000. HOW does one spend $1k at McDonald’s?
Upsizing??
The house is quiet again. Dishwasher is sloshing along. That kid wore me out…

Just got home from a nice evening with my friends and their 6 month old today little one. I’ve been with them quite a few times, but tonight he was fascinated by me. I think it’s because I’m the only other guy with glasses (his dad) he’s ever met. Plus I have a beard, none of the other men in his life do. It was pretty cool. My bread is short, so not enough to grab onto, but he tried.
flyboy Go Goo!
Now time to think about something for dinner. I’m thinkin I may try a burger in the air fryer.
Glad it was nothing major with Goo flyboy.
sari, you have a Nelson at your dog park? We’ve only ever met one other Nelson (he was named for a GB Packer).
oopsie, I would be upset in your situation too. I hope that everything goes off as originally planned.
seanette, my company occasionally caters in food (sometimes fast food) and their bill would definitely be north of $1K.
The house is clean. My friend who was supposed to troubleshoot my printer has ghosted me. Fortunately, I got it figured out after much cursing and updating / installing drivers.
Thanks so much, everyone! Yesterday was pretty rough — with one more crying session after I posted, when I suddenly really missed my mom (RIP) — but I regained some equilibrium today. I’ve never been one to dwell for long on things I can’t control. Waiting until the 13th for more info will be hard, but I have no choice. I’ll know more when I know more. I’m still pretty exhausted, though.
I’m trying to not let this setback be an excuse to go totally off the rails food-wise…I’m really stressed and really tired and HELLO triggers. I went to Burger King for lunch. But I stopped at the grocery store on the way home, and was proud of myself: it was super tempting to buy all of the chips and cookies and ice cream, and I nearly bought the makings for tuna casserole and some other unhealthy favorites, but ultimately I allowed myself just one “bad” thing (a box of Kandy Kakes). I even bought some fat-free milk to start making my sugar-free instant pudding with. I don’t want to slip back into all of my old habits; they’re what got me to needing a gastric bypass and having a heart condition in the first place. Plus, hopefully the surgery delay will be a short one — but if it isn’t, I’ll likely need to have my blood sugar checked again on 12/1 and I don’t want to screw up the great lab results I had last month.
Flyboy, I am so glad that Goo’s issue seems to be a mild one! I hope she’s feeling better soon!
Bailey goes to the vet tomorrow afternoon for her annual exam and shots. I’ll need to wait in the parking lot and talk to the vet by phone. My main question is about her hip: the stiffness has gotten noticeably worse in the past year, and the supplements don’t seem to help, so I think it’s time for some kind of medication/treatment. I don’t want my old girl to be in any pain. I’m hoping the doc will have a recommendation.
Tomorrow night is dinner and live jazz in DC!
Goo has an appointment with Dr. Chris on the 22nd to see why she has inflammation.
It’s been a trying day. We went down the beach and had fish & chips. Yeah, I violated my ‘no carbs’ rule. I had two ginnin tonnics at the restaurant, and I’ve made myself another. I’ll probably have another one later.
I’m proud of you too! Changing the habits of a lifetime is hard. {{{hugs}}}
flyboy I’m glad the news on Goo is good. I hope the shot fixes things up. As for me, I started with a beer, but I’m moving on to G&Ts. I need to find some new gin cocktails. I’ve got quite a collection of gin now.
We got the proposal for the new roof today. It’s about ⅓ of what I expected/dreaded. I got a personal loan from my credit union and sent the proposal back with a picture of my signature on the signature line.
My post work post got et. Heavin went OK, the running around before the package cars left wore me out, though.
Bet he rocked at ‘fetch’.
gin cocktails
If you’re not too into bitter, try the Negronis with Tanquray #10. the citrus botanical tones it down. And create an account at Difford’s Cocktails. It will list what you can make based on what you have.
Yay for that, and for Goo.

doggio, the other Nelson actually did rock at fetch. He was a goofy lab who lived to go after a ball or stick and was a blast to watch at pup swim, going down the slide with the huskies and poodles.
It’s not hot, but ninety-three percent humidity is just too much.
I flipped on Coolio just to blow some of this moisture out.
Got a reply back from one of my applications, so I need to follow up on that tomorrow.
For now, I’m having a … { takes bite } well, apparently a pina colada popsicle.
Good news about Goo
There is a Nelson at the park, Red. We hadn’t seen him for a long time but he is coming on a regular basis now. We’re pretty good at assimilating people into our group.
Anyway, Nelson is supposed to be shar-pei/labx. Other than the wrinkles in his forehead he looks like neither. He’s a nice dog but not so friendly with people. I don’t think I have ever pet him.
Echo remembered him so he is safe from her bitchiness. Unless there is a toy involved, or he gets too close to me. Even then though, she just kind of pushes him around and so far, he hasn’t pushed back.
It may help that he goes to the same daycare, so there are probably days they see each other there.
I think the daycare should give me a cut, I have sent a lot of people there.
Og bless air conditioning. Even in October in the low 60s.
After a few minutes off, I’m overheating again.
Screw humidity. (Currently 96%. WTF did I move to Michigan, or to Miami?)
Ratties got oatmeal, plus some (ugh!) dried mealworms. They loves thems some dried wormies.
Meanwhile, I’m obsessed with this damn spiral cross-stitch hoop. Pink and magenta are done, starting on red. I have flosses in a couple of orange & a couple of yellow shades, so I should hopefully get a nice blended swirl effect.
I have a bunch of blues in various shades, and am trying to find the right project for those. Another spiral would be an easy design, but I wanna do something different.
Just dunno what.
What would look smashing in just various shades of blue?
A map of my varicose veins?
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. it’s my Firday.
Cornflower? Sweet violet? A field of 'em?
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and very foggy with a predicted high of 84 and partly N.O.S. for the day. This mornin’ I shall betake myself over to the bargain sto’ where Diet Poopsie is on sale. The supply needs to be replinished. Beyond that the watchin’ of some college tackleball, makin’ veggie soup, and the usual sloth shall fill the day. Sup shall be veggie soup and cornbread.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, since I am to go about the public I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate attire. The things I must endure!
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
I’m caught in an annoying cycle. I wake stupid early, so I’m falling asleep in my recliner before 9, so I go to bed, so I wake stupid early… I’ve tried forcing myself to stay up longer, and that leads me to wake up stupid early, but tired. And once I’m awake, that’s pretty much it. Dammit.
Today’s big chore will be gathering all the stuff we need to do the shelves in Roxy’s closet. FCD got the dimensions, so we can even cut the shelves to length. The only thing we might need to buy is a box of screws, and we can get them in the morning.
Our plan is to get breakfast, then go to Lowe’s and pick up the fans and lights that the electrician is going to install in the kids’ house. Then to their house to install the shelves and assemble the crib. (Note to self - put crib mattress in the truck.) We’re just about in the babby home-stretch, especially if he decides to appear early.
And I may or may not try out the new pressure washer on the clothesline deck today. I need to clean it so I can repaint it. The current coat of paint has started cracking and peeling, and I don’t need the boards to start rotting. Always something when you’re a homeowner.
Happy Saturday!!
wow johnny with a day like yours id of said F the tonic and glass and just pounded down as much as i could get away with and i hate straight gin… my evening sucked anyhow … sounds like kitty ate or trief yo something ot shouldnt of …maybe grass?
