Most Despised/Loved Cartoon Character

Love:
Brian and Stewie Griffin
Bugs & Daffy
Dexter
Jason, from Battle of the Planets

Despise:
Keyop
7-Zark-7
Scrappy Doo
Casper
Herman (from Herman & Catnip)
The Kangaroo who beat up Sylvester
Peggy Hill

I believe it was an iludium Q-36 explosive space modulator.

Speed Racer was cool but the Mysterious Racer X was the Mack Daddy…I think Racer X was the only person on that show who spoke at a normal rate.

Love:

Bugs Bunny, actually, all from Looney Tunes
Tom & Jerry
Droopy
Simpsons

HATE:

All anime (actually, the style rather than the characters)
Anything Disney
Scooby-Doo
Dexter
Powerpuff Girls (are they anime ?)
South Park
Well, make that all modern shit.

ARM THE WAVE MOTION GUN!

AIMED, SIR!

TARGET ALL MINNMEI-HATERS!

TARGETTED, SIR!

FIRE!

BBBBBOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!

[jinty strains mightily to add his vote to the top of the enormous ‘Bugs Bunny’ pile]

Actually, I got a soft spot for Daffy after I saw an interview with one of the animators, describing how Bugs was what we all wanted to be (cool, unflappable) but Daffy was what we actually knew we were (jealous, bitter, etc)

[Daffy]I’ d love to thee a cartoon where Thylvester eatth that little thit Tweetie Pie.[/Daffy]

Here, here. I’m surprised on one’s mentioned Justice League yet; from what I’ve seen (two separate two-part episodes), it totally kicks ass.

Example: Green Lantern is on trial on an alien planet; penalty is death. Flash is pleading with the judges, in an attempt to slow the trial down so the other JL’ers can develop some evidence:

FLASH: Doesn’t he get a lawyer or something?
JUDGE: No. We took care of our lawyer problem long ago.
FLASH: Well, he should have somebody up here. Can I speak on his behalf?
JUDGE: Yes, but if you do not prevail, you will share the same fate as your friend.
FLASH: <gulp> Really?
JUDGE: Yes. That is how we solved our lawyer problem.

Anyway, as to the OP:

Loved:
Bugs Bunny
Daffy Duck (and I agree with whoever said Bugs + Daffy = cartoon gold)
Homer
Eric Cartman

Despised:
Scrappy
The Green Gazoo
Most other latecomer sidekicks
Disney short-cartoon characters lacking the last name “Duck” [1]

[1]They’re all so damn bland! Donald and his extended family, on the other hand, are the Osbournes of the Disney set.

Love:

The Justice League
The Super Friends(all, even Gleek)
Hate:

Those magpies, I blocked out their names long ago, even as a child they were stupid and boring and on TV before the good cartoons would come on, so I ended up watching them much more than I wanted to.

Can I stomp the winner? Please? Have you seen the Cartoon Network with Scrappy having a nervous breakdown and screaming at everyone–it’s the best thing that’s ever been done with that little s***.

Love:
Daffy (“It’s sort of the Egyptian god of frustration.” is one of my favorite Babylon 5 quotes.)
Bugs
Samurai Jack
Wile E. Coyote
Xanatos from Gargoyles–It was so refreshing to see a villain who didn’t look or sound like a villain. He’d make a good drinking buddy, I think.
Droopy

Hate:
Tweety
Every cartoon mouse except Hubie and Bertie
Ed, Edd, and Eddie
Scrappy and the chickenhawk are mentioned above

Dewey, my favorite Flash bit from Justice League:
Flash: [bragging to Hawkgirl about something]…because I’m the Fastest Man Alive.
Hawkgirl: That may explain why you can’t get a date.

Dewey, great call about Donald and his family. I always liked him, and I love the fact that he seems to be the most “normal” disney character. Yeah, Mickey has his dog, a house and his girl, but Donald you can see as a working man pushed a little too far by life and always taken advantage of by his family.

Justice Legue was mentioned earlir, and for the record, I do like the show, but it is faaaar too slow. Fave’s gotta be Hawk Girl - man, a babe with a bad temper!

Anyways - HATE:

Any character that completely defies anything in the universe to come out on top and completely unscathed, i.e; Droopy, Magoo, Woody Woodpecker, etc.

Scrappy Doo, Chicken Hawk, Jerry Mouse, Jerry Mouse, Jerry Mouse (A hundred thousand times! Blast that vermin!!!) everyone else in Scooby Doo. Him (from PPG) Probably others I can’t think of.

LOVE

Sandy Cheeks (Hi-yah!)
Eric Cartman
Eustes (from Courage)
Mandy (from Grim & Evil)
And others, but mostly I just enjoy whole shows.

Hated

All those comic relief critters in disney films. Get a new idea.
Dr. Hibbard. I’d rather have Dr. Nick operate on me than have to listen to this guys guffaw anymore.
That other Dr. from Futurama.

Lukewarm on
Bart. I dunno, he just seems holy uninteresting anymore. Maybe just overexposure.
Most of the King of the Hill cast.
Most of the Futurama cast.

Smitten with
The Family Guy crew.
Homer can do no wrong. (Ok 'cept when the writing stinks).

I prefered it when Avenger swooped down and carried him off for a snack in Harvey Bordman AAL.

Another vote for Justice League. I have a soft spot in my heart for Super Friends, from my childhood, but Justice League is excellent.

I also like Powerpuff Girls, and always ALWAYS HATED THAT LITTLE SNOT NOSED PUKE SCRAPPY DOO.

PUPPY POWER MY ASS, SCRAPPY!

(exhale)

I’m better now.

Wow, I was totally perplexed by these comments:

Uh… they don’t.

http://www.geocities.com/poster_911/powerpuff_girls_poster.html
(just some examples)

The only one who’s consistantly angry is Buttercup (the green one), and that’s because it’s her nature. She’s the rough and tough tomboy that likes to fight. And even she is happy a lot of the time. (Usually when beating up monsters.)

I know this is all subjective, but I just can’t wrap my head around that statement as it applies to PPG. Some of the other CN shows, yes. But surely not PPG?

Granted, the recent episodes and the movie have been a steep downhill turn. But the early stuff was pure comic gold.

You take 5-year old superheroes, ok that could come out smarmy and silly. But then you go all out parody, and throw in references to everything from the Beatles to Godzilla to Rashoman, and do with great artistic style and comic timing. Genius!

The humor comes from: “How would superhero kids react to normal kid stuff like: eating paste, taking a bath, schoolyard jealousy, bullies, birthday parites, eating vegetables, bedtime, the tooth fairy?” The juxtaposition is hysterical. A supervillian crashing a slumber party in disguise? great stuff.

Some favorites:
[ul]
[li]Boogie Frights was a take on the boogieman, and Bubbles’s fear of the dark, with a cute Star Wars parody thrown in.[/li][li]Mr. Mojo’s Rising was a spoof on the “secret origins revealed” superhero cliche.[/li][li]The Bare Facts was a very clever experiment is storytelling with each of the girls narating the story in her own “style” with the art switching back and forth between their different natures. (Buttercup’s POV was gritty and noiresque. Bubbles’s was drawn in crayon, etc.)[/li][li]Criss Cross Crisis, my all time favorite saw all the characters switching bodies. (opening up some funny self-referential nitpicking when characters that had fingers swapped with characters that didn’t.)[/li][/ul]

Anyway… rent a DVD of the early episodes, and see if you still have that opinion. I just can’t fathom it.

I didn’t see that. Now for an addition to my “Loves” list–

Loves:
Avenger

No one has mentioned my favorite, although a one-hit wonder, the Michigan Frog (From the cartoon where the construction worker finds the frog that can sing and dance, but only for him)

Love Donald Duck, the old Johnny Quest, Bullwinkle.
Hate:
King of the Hill.
Newer, 3D looking cartoons
Dexter’s Lab, especially DeeDee (does that drawing stink or what?)
Rugrats
Scooby anything
Baby anything

My favorite was when Cartoon Network was doing their Blair Witch Project parodies. They had Daphne running through the woods, shrieking, with a shaky-cam following her. It was Velma calling, “Daphne! Come back! Come back! It’s just Scrappy-Doo!”

Daphne: “I KNOW!!!”

Adored by NailBunny:

Homer Simpson and Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel
Space Ghost
The mother from The Family Guy…Lois?
Dexter
Ren and Stimpy (couldn’t possibly choose one, I love them both for different reasons)
Cartman and Chef, but especially TIMMY!
Foghorn Leghorn
Dr. Zoidberg
The Maxx (“Oh crap. I was thinking out loud again.”)

Absolutely goddamn despised by NailBunny:

Dr. Marvin Monroe. Can’t stand him.
EVERY. SINGLE. CHARACTER on King of the Hill. This show is beyond stupid, it’s offensive.
Bugs Bunny. What a smug little shit.
Pretty much every single other Loony Toons or Merry Melodies character.
Rugrats. I’ve never watched it, but I hate them just the same.
Most Disney characters.
All Hanna Barbara characters, yes, even Scooby. I liked it as a kid but, well…I’m grown up now.

IIRC, they were named Heckle and Jeckle.

Regarding the Martian on Bugs Bunny, the line I recall was:Where’s the kaboom? That was supposed to be followed by an Earth shattering kaboom!

Just remember how great a show Ren and Stimpy was. Powdered Toast Man and the Log bits were great.
