Moving On Up - A New Neighbor MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN '‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 83 and mostly cloudy. Comestibles are to be procured today. Also, I would like to mow the yahd as we are promised rain/tstorms/apocalypse tomorrow and then again on Sattidy, Sunday, and Moanday. I have no idea what sup will be. I shall either get inspired whilst in the Pubic Sto’ or go for takeout. We shall see.

WetOne I gather the big scope is today. You’ll be out of it the whole time and as a bonus you get pics of your colon. Hope everything is good up in there.

Nellie Harvard sweatshirt. HAH! Hope your sis has an uneventful trip back to the home place.

CupCakes conga rats on the trivia win! Also, yay on what looks like may be a quick sale of your mom’s home.

Cookie happy teeth scrapin’.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother of bothers, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ amongst the great unwashed attire. Woe!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

I was hoping someone would choose that option! It’s actually the first thing I thought of. You, sir, are a genius!!

 Love it!

From Baltimore, we head to Port Canaveral, then Nassau, Coco Cay (RCCL’s private island), then to Charleston, SC, and back to Baltimore. We might go ashore to see Coco Cay, and maybe Charleston if FCD feels up to walking, but that’s it. We’ve booked no excursions, we didn’t like the area around the port in Nassau last time we were there, and there’s nothing around Port Canaveral in walking distance. So mostly we’ll chill and hang out in one of the six hot tubs!

That’s the same deal with my mom’s house. She and dad bought it over 40 years ago, about 6 years after I left home. Many many family events were celebrated there (including this weekend’s Easter Egg hunt for the 2 oldest great-grands, but we won’t be there.) My mom is 88, so we’ll be looking at selling the place before too long. That’s going to be rough.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago - sooooooo much easier than drinking all the nasty stuff. My biggest hassle was having a non-babysitting day at home when I could be ready to collect. I don’t tend to poop on schedule. :poop:

I slept - wish I could have slept more, but that’s what the cruise is for! And I got past yesterday’s discombobulation, which is a relief. I’ve printed off our travel docs, even tho they’re on our phones, just because I’m not comfortable using apps for all that sort of thing. I’ve got a folder with all necessary papers, including passports and vax cards. Today, we’ll start to pack, just in case I need to do some more laundry. I am sooooooooo ready for this.

But first, I have to get thru today. It’s field trip day at Daughter’s school, and of course, she’s a chaperone. She won’t get back till around 5 or so. I need to pick up Roxy and bring her here after school, and I’ll probably feed her. Then both kids will get picked up and we’ll finish prepping for tomorrow. Oh, and I need to clean the critter fountain. It’s due on Saturday, but I can’t ask my daughter to do that in addition to the other critter chores here.

Anyway, it’s almost time for vacation. And you won’t be hearing much, if anything, from me because the internet package on the boat is something like $18/day, and you can’t just buy one day. So, nope! If we find a hot spot, I may try to say hi. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait a week. I will keep a journal of sorts and I’ll share any adventures next week, but since we don’t plan to debark, most adventures will be choosing which hot tub.

Happy Wednesday!!

baker My sister posted that her team won the trivia last night. Did you team with a woman with oddly colored hair? Last time I saw her it was blue.

Now onward to the day. Need to drop the truck off, uber to the shop, uber back to get the truck…I think making an appointment to get fitted for bifocals is in the mix, too.

Happy humpday, y’all!

Feline cease-fire talks are still underway. Buddy is cautiously exploring, with intermittent hisses and the occasional snarl from Allie, but they’ve gotten close enough to sniff noses before the Princess went hissy. Buddy seems willing to co-exist, Allie’s being unpleasant about another cat’s presence. I think the situation will calm down, but we’ve got a ways to go. We typically only see Buddy early mornings. Our leasing manager, who is also an upstairs neighbor, thinks he has several humans who look after him. LM feeds him (he and his wife have two nice big dogs), and is sure Buddy typically hangs out in another part of the complex. Someone had recently taken him to the vet, and it wasn’t LM or me.

Good morning everyone.

It’s 30 degrees outside and we have been threatened with more snow flurries. We had some good ones yesterday, but none of it stuck around here.

I hope you have a wonderful trip, FCM. Eighteen bucks a day for the internet seems churlish. Do they charge you by the bottle of water too?

I am sorry to hear the doc isn’t willing to work with you on the cost of the fitting, nellie. I really do hope there is some kind of refund if it doesn’t fit.

I have a long day yesterday and think today will be more of the same. Nothing to be done but try and get through it, but it would be nice super nice if some of this stuff would slow down. So many things are going on that I am worried that I will drop a couple of those whirling plates. Time to bust out more notebooks because that’s the only way I can keep track of stuff. I started keeping separate notebooks for each type of meeting or task, but then I got a little lazy and started grabbing whatever notebook was closest. Occasionally, I grabbed the big sticky pads because they were the closest. As I said, too many things going on with the added pressure of having a director who feels the same as I do and is relying on me to keep things straight for her too. Fun times!

Well, time to finish my coffee and read a little more news before I head upstairs. I hope you all have a great day!

In case moooooom forgets, USE A COASTER.

Rough life. How will you ever find the strength to soldier through the pain?

Well, they do offer a water package, but I can’t find the price. Their soft drink package is $13/day (That’s a LOT of diet coke!!), the Refreshment Package (All the non-alcoholic drinks) is $38/day, and the Deluxe Beverage Package, which includes cocktails, beer, and wine by the glass, is up to $89 per day (I think it depends on the ship.)

And if you want to stream on line, it’s $22.49/day. I’m guessing it’s how they make up for relatively cheap fares - $100-150/day for room and food and the other features is pretty cheap, especially folks like us who don’t drink or gamble… Not that we’ll go thirsty - there’s regular coffee, tea, lemonade, iced tea, and water included. I just need to survive a week without Diet Coke. FCD will be hurting, tho…

I believe we all have within the extra bit of fortitude that steps up when we need it most.

OK, Tobester is sleeping. I emptied the dishwasher, make a cuke salad, baked some brownies, and scooped the cat box. Time for a brief quiet chill till the kid wakes up.

Morning all. Awake at 7am but stubbornly stayed in bed until 8am, newspaper retrieved and pills taken, so that is my major activity for the morning. Will try to get my swimming in by 2pm so I can watch soccer before doing a couple more goalie sessions for the U10 girls. So a fairly active day for me.

Preach it. Hopefully you’ll qualify for the Cologard next time, like many others have said, much easier.

Cookie, I get my teeth cleaned twice a year (insurance covers it), but I just noticed I’ve lost the little card they give me with the next appointment–will have to call and check, think it is in May-June.

Nellie, been through some bumpy weather with aircraft, I’m sure your sister will be fine. And that bloody doctor better do right by you.

cupcakes, congrats on the trivia win, last time I did something like that was on a cruise with friends years ago, they were playing movie music and I’m still mad at myself for not getting “The Great Escape”.

Seanette, sounds like that cat has a pretty good deal with at least three humans on the hook for his care.

FCM, our group is paying some extra up front for the basic drinks package (being a gorup of around 40 or so, we probably get a discount). Might sprugle for a beer or two.

OK, need to do a few small things and have a light lunch before swimmin’. All y’all take care.

Frakking smoke alarm. I had a battery change penciled in for the 15th, but it couldn’t wait 48 more hours. Could I get back to sleep? Of course not.

Hope everybody else’s day started better.

Nice long day of heaving. Even learned a thing or two. I also had my Penzy’s order in the mailbox, which means I proabably heaved it yesterday.

But we can’t wait till then!
< throws coasters in frustration >

Have a good trip Moommm, if’n I don’t get a chance to say it later. Best wishes on surviving the long day with the grands. Little kids are fun, but they are also exhausting.

Nettie I am very excited to hear all about the feline adventures of Buddy and Allie. If you end up keeping him, how do you safely introduce him to the bird?

Nellie I’m glad you had a good visit with your sister. I know Texas had bad storms last night. I hope she has a pleasant trip home.

Taters Is there a vice-Taters that can pick up some of the things on your list? It sure sounds like more work than one person should do.

And why is it always the middle of the night? :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I’ve taken the cone off of Akiko, and so far things seem to be going fine. She’s not pawing at it and the stitches that I can see are healing just fine. I’m laughing at her (just a bit) because she’s cuddled up next me, but she keeps darting up to go chase sparrows. I doubt she’ll catch one, but she did bring me a pigeon once, so…?

I have bank things to do today. I should also go by the Fed Ex store and return a thing and mail a thing.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

That’s going to be a tad scary, especially since he’s used to being outdoors and presumably hunts at least some of his meals. When he was exploring the living room this morning, I don’t think he noticed Misty. She does have a secure cage on a solid stand, so she should be protected, and we do keep an eye on him.

He’s probably housebroken, though. Judging by some of the looks Allie was giving the litterbox earlier, he might have availed himself of it.

Have a great cruise, FCM! :ship:

I’ve met/chatted with the neighbors on either side of me. The couple two doors down left introduction notes (and cookies!) in our mailboxes when they moved in, but I haven’t met either of them in person yet. I also haven’t met the people across the street yet, but I’ve waved to them, watched their puppy grow into a dog, and watched their youngest transition from half-day school to all-day school (one of my home office windows faces their house: I don’t start work early enough to see him get picked up, but I see the bus drop him off). My neighborhood has big lots and no HOA, and the trend is for the original small, post-war houses to be torn down and replaced by much bigger houses that go for upwards of $1M: I watched all of their houses get built, except for the neighbor to my left (who’d already lived there for a while when I moved in).

I love baseball! Easily my favorite sport. I vastly prefer the ballpark to watching it on TV. I’m a lifelong Yankees fan (both sides of the family are from NJ/NY), and have also become a Nationals fan. I try to get to one Yankees game a year, around my birthday (late September), with an uncle who lives in NYC and is the one who taught me about baseball. We did it in 2019 and again last year; we’ll see what this year’s late season brings. I had Nationals season tix with my ex in 2008 and 2009, and we went to most of the games. After we broke up I used to go to 2-3 Nats games a year with a friend and his twin brother (who have partial-season tix), but both of them gradually became louder and more obnoxious: after the run-up to the 2019 World Series, when they were downright rude to some of the people around us, I decided that I’m not willing to go to games with them anymore. Which makes me sad, because I don’t have any other local baseball friends. :frowning:

I saw my primary care doc on Monday: I’m now old enough for colon cancer screening, and am currently waiting for my Cologuard to arrive! I got an email from them yesterday, so I know it’s en route. I’m kind of glad to see the comments in this thread, because it reinforces my decision to start with this vs a colonoscopy. I’m also old enough now for the shingles vaccine, but when my doc tried prescribing it in January my insurance wouldn’t pay for it. When I told her that on Monday she seemed nonplussed, and said to just wait until I’m 65 and Medicare will pay for it. I certainly don’t want to get shingles any time in the next 14-15 years, but I’m glad it’s something she’s not super concerned about. If I ever leave my company and have to get new insurance, I’ll try again.

The overnight low was in the 50s last night, so I slept with one of the bedroom windows open. I woke up at 5am to pee, and had trouble falling back asleep because the stupid birds were so loud! Way before the sun was even up! (I’ll take that over silenus’s smoke alarm any day, though…) Today’s high will be in the 80s with overnight lows in the 70s, so I’ll do the open window thing again tonight.

Nothing much is going on with me. I’m continuing to refrain from social activities until after Sunday, so I can spend Easter with my immunocompromised best friend and her family. It looks like we might get a nice sunny Easter, although the high temp is supposed to drop back into the 50s.

Normally I’d be at the office on a Wednesday, but the co-worker who’s also usually there couldn’t make it today – for the fourth week in a row. There is zero point in going in if she won’t be there, so I haven’t been to our facility in over a month now. The dog is pleased.

Speaking of work, I suppose I should get back to it…happy hump day, everyone!

Our last day to get shit organized for the move, so we’re running around and on edge a bit. I’ll be so glad when it’s all gone and we don’t have to second-guess everything. We’re both sick to death of it at this point.

Just an idea: GoodRx lists Shingrix for $155 a dose, $305 for two doses (the complete series 2-6 months apart). You could self-pay and not risk catching shingles before Medicare will pay for it. I’d spend $305 to not risk the torture of shingles (my ex had it in his late 50s). In fact, I did self-pay for Zostavax because as a nurse I’d seen shingles suffering. Can’t remember what I paid for Zostavax. By the time I reached 65 Shingrix came out (a much improved vaccine) and Medicare covered me receiving that. If you have a HSA you could use pre-tax dollars.

Good luck!

Thanks, BBBoo, but my doc was utterly unconcerned about it and so neither am I…for now, anyway.

Colonoscopy done. The doctor said I did a good prep. What a compliment. He removed 9, count ‘em 9, polyps so I have to see him in 3 years. That will give me 3 years to forgot how awful the prep was. Thunderstorms on their way which partly explains my headache,

Having Panera wild rice and chicken soup. YUM.

Eat up, peedin! You’ve definitely earned it.

I just got off a video call with someone who wanted to interview me. I do wish I’d known it was on camera or I would’ve put on makeup. Thank goodness I made sure to shower this morning and wore something other than a Harry Potter t-shirt - sometimes I don’t because I might get a chance to run. Anyway, kids are home, waiting for tornados. None yet, but the day ain’t over. All after school activities were canceled just in case.

Overlygirl was apparently hoping for tornados because then she’d get to stay with her friends at school. Both kids are out of school tomorrow & Friday for some reason or the other, so today is their Friday. I’m taking tomorrow off to laze in the morning (hopefully). Fingers and toes crossed.
