As some of you may be aware, **scareyfaerie **and Smid will be coming across the pond to play tourist from Boston to DC. Ergo, there will be a gathering to wish them a Bon Voyage on their last day before returning home.
Saturday, Aug 26 in the Kogod Courtyard of the National Portrait Gallery. The venue fulfills multiple requirements and requests. It’s right by the Gallery Place/Chinatown stop of the Metro (Red, Yellow, and Green lines), it’s recommended as a picnic spot, so no hassle of gathering in a restaurant where socializing can be tricky with a large group, (not to mention the hassle of separate checks,) and there are restrooms. There’s a cafe, or you can bring your own sammich or McLunch. From the website, they just prohibit alcohol and tobacco, but not food. It’s under a domed glass roof, so it’s got the benefits of the great outdoors, but with climate control, and rain won’t be an issue. Plus it’s got culture and stuff, which is what Dopers just ooze from every pore, right?
The Gallery opens at 11:30 - let’s meet around 12 and take it from there. We can lunch, socialize, hang out, then maybe look at portraits and get all educated and refined. Who’s in?
Should we do something to be recognizable? Like wear a red carnation or feather boas?? It’s been so long since I’ve been to a DC gathering, I don’t know if I’d recognize anyone!
There’s some advice about DC area hotels in these threads: [thread=826946]Started by scareyfaerie earlier this year[/thread] and [thread=750362]another one from 2015[/thread]. If you can find a hotel out in the 'burbs, but near the metro (or that has a metro shuttle), then you can stay much more affordably in DC. The 2017 thread also suggests bidding low on Priceline, since August is not peak tourist season.
**BooFae **- it’s the least I can do for a fellow Mumper. Well, OK, I suppose the least I can do is nothing, but we all know that won’t happen. Because I’m nice, dammit!
We’re maybe ----- its up against a couple amusement park events we’re already scheduled for along the Ohio border. That doesn’t mean a head cold isn’t possible.
