My favorite mixed drink is a Rusty Nail. And yours?

Sazerac tops my list, although I’ve only found 2 places in town to get a good one (for those of you in the Minneapolis area, the two are Bradstreet and Donnie Dirk’s Zombie Den).

A good sidecar is always enjoyable, but lately I’ve been on a Manhattan kick.

I can’t say I have a favorite, but I particularly like:

Caipirinhas - Brazilian drink made of limes, cachaca and sugar.
Mojitos - the real thing made only from fresh mint, lime, sugar, soda water and rum.
Mai Tai - the original Trader Vic one - dark & amber rum, orgeat and lime, IIRC.
Jack Rose - applejack, grenadine, lime
None but the Brave - Pimento dram(allspice liqueur), lemon juice, bourbon.
Sazerac - Rye whiskey/Cognac, Peychaud’s Bitters, dash of absinthe, sugar.

Not much of a cocktail guy myself, but in the summer, I like gin and tonics (don’t forget the lime), as well as the occasional margarita on the rocks. If micheladas are included in as a mixed drink, then put me in for one of those, too. Oh, and scotch-and-soda (Dewar’s or another cheap-but-drinkable type.)

During the cooler weather, I don’t really drink anything mixed at all.

I don’t much like liquor unless you disguise its taste with a milkshake. So I like mudslides.

You did read the OP, right?

Tanqueray or Tanqueray 10 gin and schwepps tonic water - heavy on the lime, please - for the best gin and tonic on the planet.

Gimlet. I always have to ask for “gin gimlet” because it seems most bartenders reach for the vodka for all drinks unless told otherwise. Even then I get vodka half the time. I shed a small tear every time I order a gimlet these days.

It’s a toss-up between a Bloody Mary and a Lavender Lemon Drop.

Tom Collins or a whiskey sour. For ease of ordering in public, I’ll also go whiskey coke, usually Jameson’s.

Same thing shiftless says, too.

I see a few have a fondness for G&T. So do I, but partially for medicinal purposes, as tonic contains quinine, an anti-malaria ingredient.
More than ten years in Singapore now and I’m still malaria free!
Who says drinking is bad for you?
Now if they could only come up with a tasty ingredient for dengue…

hafta say i’ve never made a g&t with quinine. hmmm. i predict an experiment this weekend…

Greyhound, the vodka smooths out the grapefruit and the grapefruit smooths out the vodka. Just don’t use the sweeter Ruby Red kind, makes it taste like shit.

Mojito. 'nuff said.

Dirty Martini.

A Gimlet.

At home it is always a vodka gimlet with ice. My husband makes me a perfect double every Friday after work. He puts in two or three lime wedges so I don’t come down with scurvy.

In my experience, gimlets at restaurants mostly suck. They come with sour mix or fresh squeezed lime juice (appreciate the effort) or sometimes with a lemon on the rim and god-knows-what mixed in. What do they think that dusty bottle of Rose’s is for? To avoid being pissed off before I’ve even perused the menu, I’ll often order vodka on the rocks or, if I’m in a Mexican place, a margarita. Salted rim please, and don’t mush it up in your blender–I want a drink, not a slurpee.

I knew a bartender who worked at a neighborhood dive. A handful of locals, mostly old men who held down a bar stool and nursed a beer or two. No decor, no atmosphere, no kareoke, a tinny sounding jukebox, no food, no wet t-shirt contests. Just a sit-and-down-cheap-beer while watching a boxing match on TV. He said a woman stopped in a few times a week after getting off the bus from work and she would order elaborate, frou-frou cocktails (he would have to dig out a book for the recipes), she would sip a pina colada or whatever in that grungy, depressing bar. I thought that was kind of embarrassing, for her. Sort of as if some 70 year old rummy wandered into a place called The Pink Poodle Cabaret and ordered a boilermaker and a pickled egg.

Thanks, Sparky812 (I said, sarcastically). Picked up a bottle of Clamato, and now have another bad habit.

Southern Comfort and Coke with lime.

No problem, I'm glad you like them! :D
