My greatest influence - an early MMP

We lost power this afternoon–dunno why (maybe the wind?), so the shortbread is just out of the oven now. I made Tuna Helper for dinner–yep, I suck as a mom.

No way am I going to the store on a Friday night, hence the Tuna Helper.
Going to go practice my och ayes in the mirror–bonnie lassie that I am! Wha’ hae! (or something…)

 :frowning: Geeze, I guess that means I must suck as a Mom too. I’ve been known to whip up some Tuna Helper or Hamburger Helper. I add some additional ingredients to them though. Does that make things a little better?

LiLi, I’m sorry to hear about your aunt. Hugs being sent to you.

Y’all can keep your scallops. I don’t really care for them. Oysters either. Oysters are just plain gross and taste nasty.

FCM, I’m sorry to hear that your class isn’t all you’d thought it be. However, it sounds like you may have some entertainment value in there vis a vis the girl who doesn’t like to get her hands dirty. Perhaps she’ll provide some amusing entertainment which you can then report back to us. Because we’re nosy like that…

Haze, stuff happens. It sounds likes you feel badly. Stay away from the guy though. He bears 50% of the responsibility for what happened too.

Time to start cleaning up. The boss has given me a large to-do list for his absence next week. :dubious: I already told him not to expect all of it to be done, as I am STILL trying do stuff on the various other lists of taskers I have. Blech. I don’t want to be bored, but Geeze Louise, a little breathing room would be nice.

Didjall miss me today?
I hurt, the cold makes my joints ache, so I’m taking my meds and crawling into bed
I go stuff to do tomorrow that I shouldn’t sleep thru. I may pop in before I head out tomorrow morning and say hi, but now I needs must crash.

before I go (and I apologize for the lack of my usual rainbow coding):

Happy Anniversary, to SCL and Mr Snake

Depends on who you talk to in RL and here…and I dont’ add stuff to it–I just make (using skim milk). I don’t really care if others find it overprocessed etc–I’m a busy person and TH or HH upon occasion won’t hurt anyone. I’m Greek that way.
I need to get ready for my Burns night. That nap left me groggy and tired–I just want to go back to sleep…

I can’t go to see An Inconvenient Truth tomorrow night like I had planned. I looked at what I need to do for school and my work schedule and it isn’t going to happen. Damn.

Enjoy your Friday nights, all!

If you haven’t already stopped by and ooooohed and awwwwed over the cute baby and doggie, you should. The title is very accurate.

So now I’m working on an agenda for our meeting tomorrow and watching episodes from the first season of MI-5. Season 4 is out, but I thought I should watch my way through the first three again before acquiring 4.

Oh…and I’m having hot chocolate. Yummm.

A nice peaceful (so far) Friday evening. Hope everyone else’s is too…

GT

That kid really gets around, doesn’t he, gt?

Papa Tigs came home with the lovely information that the reason he hasn’t been able to sign us up for health insurance for the last week is because the written instructions he was given by HR were – surprise! – wrong. Sigh. Apparently the woman was quite snotty condescending to him until he handed her the paper. She then got on the phone and was snotty and condescending to the person who’d actually written the instructions.

But this means I now need to reschedule my first pre-surgical blood donation Monday because the insurance won’t be effective till 2/4 and that’s a bit more than I want to pay out of pocket. (Fortunately, I scheduled it earlier than the blood bank lady had wanted to just to allow room; paranoia can be a useful thing when they really are watching you.) I have a doctor’s appointment (fortunately a routine one) this week that we’ll just have to bite the bullet and pay for. And in the meantime, if something catastrophic happens, we can still pay for a month of COBRA. It’s just that they want $840 for the two of us for one month of COBRA, and we figure we can bite a lot of bullets for $840!

Supper is over – broiled mahi mahi, rice pilaf, and breaded mushrooms from the Amish market – and animals are fed and I’m ready to turn into a pumpkin. Is it bedtime yet?

hehehe…Taters and Snakes…now I’ve got Kibbles and Bits stuck in my head! Happy anniversary all around!

Haze don’t be too hard on yourself. Hard enough that you make a mistake/lapse in judgement/whatever into a lesson learned, but it won’t help if you beat yourself up. Trust me, I am old and have learned many things the hard way. Of course, it can be liberating to talk to your best friends in the MMP all about it… Now that I am further into my reading, while not a stellar moment in your book of judgements, it’s a far cry from a lot of activities in poor judgement. When I was young and single I made the mistake of beginning a relationship with a guy who was separated but in the process of getting a divorce. Twice. Different guys and wives. Both times the husband and wife reconciled before the divorce was final. After the second incident I made a pact with myself to never get involved with a still married man, no matter how close his divorce was to being final. Actually, the pact also included a one year off limits after the divorce was final clause, freshly divorced men are just not worth the heartache. Anyway, forgive yourself and move on.

Yup, that sounds what a flare feels like in my world. Rest, plenty of fluids, and you’ll be a bouncy Mama Tigs in a day or so.

Prayers on the way for li-li and family.

swampy you jogged my memory today with your burly butcher talk, the head butcher at Safeway is a very cute burly kinda guy. Really friendly, too, makes special cuts for me, and also lets me take home a hunk of stewing beef without charging me to cut it up. Too bad we’re both married! Still, looking ain’t touching, and last I checked fantasies were still free, so…

I have a cover of You’re The Reason Our Kids Are Ugly on my ipod…I like the genre a lot, especially John Prine. I am a nerd, I suppose.

Scallops are The Yum. Very small oysters, fried, are also The Yum. The local scallops are very much The Yum. Now I want a scallop supper, maybe tomorrow. Tonight is gonna be something like Campbell’s soup, as last night I decided that my GI tract would be able to handle the garlic chicken pizza. It can’t. Now I have a sore tummy, and there is both a roast beef sub in the fridge and my favorite raspberry/lemon/coconut cake on the counter calling my name. Damn!

rosieposie I empathize. Keep warm. I will keep you in my prayers regarding your drug trial, I am very interested to hear how well it helps you. I did the methotrexate thing for a while, but it made me feel sicker in other ways then it helped. This crazy auto immune stuff really bites. You take good care of yourself!

After all my blather I haven’t even told you what happened today! They Cancelled School Today On Account Of We Had Bad Weather. Of course my daughter was already at school when the cancellation was called in, and my son, who bikes past the hospital, had a nurse just going in who told him that both her parents are teachers and that he should go home, which he did. The weather here in town was nicer than it has been since October, I can even see patches of bare ground, but the roads outside of town were sufficiently glazed in ice that the (ahem) bus company refused to send out the buses. On a Friday. We can be having hurricane force winds, blizzard conditions and temps in the negative and they won’t call in a weather day, but a little ice and the drivers get all scared. I’m not looking forward to a three day weekends with bored, lippy teenagers, I foresee a lot of chores getting done!

Okay, that’s enough from me for now. I suppose what I lack in regularity I make up for with length, so sorry!

Back from the game. we won 6-2. Everybody’s been walked and fed, so it’s bed time.

rigs, if HH and TH make you a bad mom, my mom is the worst ever. It won’t hurt anyone.

kai, I was on methotrexate for a while. No beer( [sup]10[/sup]) for two years sucked.

Lili, I’ll keep your family in my prayers, too.

So it was 8pm. MindWife and I were hungry, there’s a snow storm outside, so we opt to order in. We settle on some East Side Mario’s delivery. New Yorker pizza and two of their awesome garden salads. Spent 3-4 minutes on hold, but got through eventually. $33 bucks came the total, to be paid by cash. Delivery is about 55 minutes. All is good.

60 minutes pass. No food. But it’s okay. With the weather as crap as it was we could forgive a bit of tardiness.

90 minutes. Stomach’s grumbling because, still, there is no food. I call – the wait time seems longer this time. The weather must be driving everyone to order from them. I tell them the sitch, they say they’ll call the store and have them look into it, then call me back. 15 minutes later they call back. “The food has left the store,” the woman on the other end said. “It should be there any minute.” Very well. We’ll wait.

5 minutes. 10. 40. No food. It’s now been over 2 hours. I call again. 10 minutes on hold. “You still haven’t gotten it?” said the same woman I got the last time I called. “Nope,” I say. She confirms the address they have for me. It’s correct. “Okay,” she explains. “If the driver gets there, don’t even pay for it.” I should hope not. “I’m also going to put a $40 credit on your account for next time, okay?”

:: blink ::

“Uh … great, sure, thank you.”

I hang up. We despair that he’s ever going to arrive and start making alternative plans for food. 5 minutes later, the guy buzzes up and our food arrives. The pizza, as expected, was cold. I mean, back-seat-of-the-car-for-an-hour-and-a-half-in-sub-zero-temperatures cold. We didn’t pay him – he seemed to expect that and left without a word, pausing only a moment as if hoping against hope for a tip anyway. None was forthcoming.

After I put the pizza in the oven to re-heat it I realized there was writing on the box. My name and address. Or rather, my name and an address. Someone else’s. Right street, wrong street number. Really wrong. So that’s why it took so long.

So, cool. Free meal tonight, $40 in credit for a meal in the future, just for two and a half hours of waiting. That’s just about the most generous a restaurant that cocked up has ever been to me. Sweet!

Hi, all! Haggis night was fun–I’m a wee tipsy–lots of Tennent’s lager. Nummy–I like Tennent’s (I know nothing of ales and lagers). We toated the haggis and our host sang a Scottish ballad and read the Ode to the Haggis by Burns.
The reest of s the night a bit ogf a blur. Off to bed soon. Had a goodt iem. Nigh’.

Ha! Yes, yes he is. :smack:

Thanks for the sympathy, everyone - it really helps hearing that I’m not alone around here in making this sort of mistake. The rational part of me wishes I could stay away from him, but we have classes together and are friends with the same people. Of course, I need to avoid situations like yesterday, but the stupid part of me doesn’t want to.

Gaaah. I always fall for guys that are not good for me. Not a good pattern.

rigs, sounds like you had fun celebrating ol’ Robbie’s night. Glad you had a “goodt iem”!

Happy Saturday morning! It’s cold and still dark out, but the critters have been walked and fed, except for Brandy who is hiding somewhere. Bernie is crashed here in the family room, but Scruffy has been trying to curl up on the love seat on the afghan. She knows that isn’t allowed, and yet she persists.

Temps are supposed to hit mid-50s today, so we’re going to hose the salt residue off both vehicles. Actually, we have one of those long-handled brush things that attach to the hose, so we can sorta scrub and hose at the same time. We’ve got to go down to the marina and check on the boat, and while we’re in that area, we’ll go to the grocery store. I think that’s all the chores for today. I may start some laundry, and I really need to clean my studio, too.

We’re being threatened with a rain/snow mix for tomorrow, but for the most part, the next 10 days are going to be close to normal for winter. So that’s good. In fact, the temps are shown creeping up a wee bit, a sure sign that, well, we’ll probably get whomped at least once before spring, but I can dream…

Happy Saturday everyone! I’ve only just got out of bed, it was tough too, I could quite happily have stayed there but it’s nearly afternoon and that just makes me feel very slightly guilty…

LiLi - warm thoughts and positive vibes heading your way for your family. It’s not an easy time but I’m sure the right decisions will be made.

Rigs - you despoiled the chieftain o’ the puddin-race by drinking lager? I’m shocked! You should at least have had Deuchars, but Tennants? You might as well have been drinking White Lightning’s £2-for-3-litres gutrot cider…what a disgrace!

Rosie - hope the meds and the early night worked and you’re feeling better today.

What am I going to do today? I’ve got shedloads of cleaning up to do, a pile of ironing and a lot of studying so I suppose I ought to get started on a bit of it. Tonight we’re off to a party so that’ll be an overnight stay in the hotel where the party’s being held but luckily it’s only in Walsall so it’s not far from home. I think the cats will survive without us for a few hours.

Other than that, it’s going to be a weekend of domesticity and then on Sunday night, 'im indoors is heading off to sunny Wigan for his new job. Peace!

Good mornin’ or afternoon or evenin’ depending on where you are, everybody! I have been up for a while but been futzin’ around. I’ve read the paper, caffienated up and unloaded the dishwasher full of dishes that I washed Wednesday night and haven’t bothered with. What? I’ve eaten off paper plates and used disposable cups the past couple days. The flatwear was real stuff but that’s easy to just wash up in the sink. However, the house is clean, so don’t judge me. At least I didn’t make anybody eat Tuna Helper. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s gonna get rainy here this afternoon according to the weather guessers. Right now it’s sunny and cold. It’s 28 Amurrkin outside! I expected to see glaciers when I went out to get the paper.

Tonight we go to a birthday party for a bunch of people with January birthdays. I’m not really up to going but I will get homemade lasagna, so that’ll be worth it. Other than that, I don’t think anything will happen around here today.

pop

see y’all later

I’m up too. I think I have just about everything I need for my meeting, which isn’t till 1:00 this afternoon. This is a minor miracle. So I’m thinking I’ll clean a bit, do a little bit of laundry and generally get organized for the weekend.

I actually feel pretty well this morning. Reasonable amount of energy and everything. So maybe I’ll actually be productive.

Updates as they happen. (I know you can’t wait.)

Happy Saturday, everyone.

GT who has been known to use boxed mac & cheese as TH

Good morning. I have had my coffee, and ran to work for a meeting. I am going to walk the dog, eat breakfast, and nap before work. Enjoy your day!

That was pretty, rosie. Thanks for popping by.
Mac’n’cheese from a box is a fine basis for many edible foodstuffs. Chipotle peppers and chicken with salsa is really yummy.
Haze, I have the perfect solution to your boy troubles. I have this very nice Lazy Husband…

The snow was so pretty yesterday! My Mom took me up to Costco, and I apologized four times on the way. I sisn’t realise it was snowing so hard, but she didn’t seem to mind, and we both got groceries.

When I got home Attacks Husband was here, and Driving Husband had phoned to ask if we could feed him. So we had dinner (salad with feta and chicken, and focaccia, and chocolate cake), alcohol, and watched the first half of the BBC Pride and Prejudice until midnight. It was a lot of fun. Attacks Husband had never seen it before. Driving Husband and I both swore a lot at some of the characters.

Dunno what’s happening today. Picking up my cheque and maybe watching the second half of the movie. I have a whole big package of chicken breasts I should probably poach and shred, and I might make spaghetti sauce, since I’ve also got a big package of ground beef.

A certain young male cat, who shall remain nameless but whose name is a crucial ingredient in Margaritas has a new favorite thing to do. Early in the morning, let’s say about 4 am, he gets on his hind legs, and paws at the wooden bedframe.

He has claws, but he’s not scratching, however he IS just letting the claws touch the wood - so there’s this little “click-click” going on right next to my head.

If you say, hey knock it off doofus, he does, but then he jumps up on the bed and purrs at roughly the volume of a B-52, because he’s SOOOOOO happy that you called him.

So, yeah I was up earlier than I’d have chosen to this morning.

Then the BatPhone rang. We have 26 buses going out this morning on trips: boys/girls basketball, wrestling, bowling, speech… One bus hadn’t gotten to the school when it was supposed this morning, the AD called me, so I called the one of My People who’s on call this morning. That was an hour ago, and I haven’t heard anything yet, so all must be well.

I’m gonna be off to the gym - today is Running Day, then home to get some housework done, then some worky-work done, then later on Wife and I are going to go see The Departed, and get some pizza then come home and mate like teen-agers.

Ok, maybe not that last part, but maybe so.

Hi, all. I slept in late, got up half an hour ago, and am currently caffeinating. It’s sunny and 36 Amurrican here – looks like the weather gods got mixed up again, Swampus – and supposed to get up to 50, so presumably Papa Tigs will take the large furry idiots out somewhere fun this afternoon, either for a swim – o frabjous day! – or a nice long walk on Kent Island, where there’s a lovely long trail that meanders through swamps and woods. Frankly, I don’t care, as long as he wears them out!

Otherwise, my day will probably consist of exciting stuff like a bit of transcribing, some housecleaning, and laundry. Envy me my thrilling life, people.
