Och…I dinnae know about t’ drink, lassie. I’m thinkin’ that nae much can despoil the chieftain o’ the puddin-race… (besides, this is a girl who can’t even finish one beer, never mind ale–and I had 3. Tennant’s tastes good and not too carbonated, which was very refreshing to me. I dunno what other drink there was -but the name Deuchars rings a bell. And there was whiskey (whisky? I never know) on hand, but I never touch the stuff since one college experience…)
And I dont’ even have a hangover! Very impressive.
Oh, and besides haggis, there was blood sausage, neeps, meat pies and shortbread later on. (my shortbread was demolished in short order-yay). There were 6 men in kilts-a 100% increase from last year. Mine host wore the Blackwatch (military?) tartan, but plans on getting his own clan’s soon (he’s frugal-he’s Scots). None of the lads would say if they were being traditional in all manner of kilt wearing. One guy was complete with tuxedo shirt, bowtie, sporran, dagger and those lil fringey thingies they wear on the tops of their knee socks. He was quite impressive as well.
Off to buy groceries, get #2 son’s hair cut, and buy a Bday present for a small child. Then I study, study, study…and do housework. I think BooFae and I are leading parallel lives.
I haven’t been ice skatig in decades. I used to be pretty good at it; throughout junior high and into high school, several afternoons a week, and most weekends, my friends and I would meet at the rink and chase each other around the “track”, admire the figure skaters, and practice our “3 turns” and little hops. I even took figure skating lessons one winter (a bat mitzvah gift from a friend of mom’s) and was got pretty good at figure 8’s, spins, and toe-pick jumps. (no triple Lutz’s tho) However, twas not always the case. When I was in 3rd grade or thereabouts, my scout trip spent an afternoon at the rink. My then best friend had already been skating for a year and I was ready and willing to match her paces. But I’d never had skates on before. My mom, who was chaparoning, laced me up, and I stood. it felt like the blades were slicing upwards thru my feet. “Get these things off my feet!” I hollared and that was it, for about 5 years.
as for parallel lives, at one time or another, each one of you has mirrored something in my own life. So, really, we are all one person, separated only by georgraphy (and the sports we like)
rosie, I would have been so jealous of you as a kid. I was terrified of skates - I took figure skating for a year, but it was all I could do to just stay upright on the ice. Hopefully I won’t make too much of a fool of myself today.
Roller skating I was good at - there weren’t many ice skating rinks in Georgia in the '70’s. I finally learned to ice skate a bit when I lived in Hawaii, of all places. There are a few public skating days at the Civic Center, but I haven’t gone - since I broke my foot I am careful about putting unnecessary stress on it.
I think one of the reasons I got hooked on hockey is because of the skills these guys have as skaters. If one of them trips, he’s up and at the other end of the rink in the same amount of time I would take to fall to the ice, let alone struggle to my feet/skates.
Condiments and cake and veggie platter are purchased for the tailgate and I am almost dressed. I still have to make the hot chocolate (for which one of my partners in crime is bringing coconut rum) and get out my jersey.
Snakes hot chocolate and coconut rum… that sounds nummy!
I decided to do be a little productive today. I made breakfast, cleaned the pool, boiled a chicken and got a chicken pie ready to cook on Monday. Tomorrow we’re going to Sonny’s BBQ for lunch with a group of people so dindin if it happens will be sammiches cause Sonny’s fills ya up. Oh and I’ve had a nap. Now it’s just chill out til go eat lasagna time.
Takin’ a little break here. We went out for breakfast, checked the boat (it’s still floating!! ) then spent $101 on groceries. When we got home, **FCD ** de-salted our vehicles and I stashed our groceries and hauled the laundry to the basement. Then we took my new freebie bookcase down to the studio for storing pots n’ stuff.
That’s when we discovered the flood in the basement. OK, not a real flood, but a lot of water. Apparently when **FCD ** connected the hose to rinse off our vehicles, he didn’t tighten it, and some leakage occurred. But with help of the wet/dry vac, it was cleaned pretty fast. Once that was taken care of, I rearranged my studio a bit, did a little tidying, and took all the pots that have been on the dining room table down to the basement. I sorted all my stuff according to color - I think that’s how I’ll display next time I do a show.
I also separated the pieces I’ll be giving away. Once I put together a photobucket album, I’ll start a thread and let anyone who is interested choose.
I got some ground beef at the store - I’m thinking meatloaf or meatballs for supper. I should probably tidy the kitchen, too - empty and refill the dishwasher at least. I’d fire my maid if I had one. <sigh>
Not too productive today. I did make breakfast, did the dishes, and made the bed.
Oh, Swampy, you asked when I am returning to work. It will be Tuesday, Feb 20. I have to start on a short week, don’t ya know! (For all y’all non-Amurrikans, Feb 19 is a US holiday - President’s Day. It’s a combination of Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthdays.)
Sonny’s is good but we have a better place around here. It’s all takeout though. Still some fine bbq. Course none of us is as lucky as Snakes, IMO, cause she has Country’s BBQ where she lives. Country’s is some of the best BBQ evah!
Tigs what can I say? Heck, I’m just a plain ol’ cook. You won’t get fancy eats at the swampcave but you will get good eats.
FCM I vote for meatballs and spaghetti, cause, well, I ain’t had any in a while, that’s why.
Rebo good foreplanning on the startin’ back on a short week!
I’m halfway through my readings for this week and bored outta my mind. I find myself closing my eyes and drifting…
I had leftover KFC and potato chips for dinner. Not the greatest dinner out there. This Lexapro has taken away my appetite. I get hungry, but the feeling passes quickly. Ok by me-maybe I’ll lose those last 10 pounds I’ve been ignoring.
No one will be here for dinner tonight-another reason I ate early. It’s nice and quiet in the house.
Hospital again tomorrow, then off until Friday! Woot!
We had meatballs, a tomato-mushroom-onion sauce, and cauliflower. Pretty doggone healthy. And I’ve got enough of the sauce left over for 2 more meals, or one big lasagna. Plus there are 7 leftover meatballs - someone gets them for lunch for tomorrow.
I’m done with laundry and cooking for the night. Last chore will be to put sheets on the bed. mmmmmmmmmmmmm fresh sheets…
**FCD ** got the first coat of mud on our closet. We’ve decided that as soon as this room is all painted, we’re getting both bedrooms recarpeted and we’re getting the other carpet restretched. Then all we’ll have left is the master bedroom, when we get around to that.
I’m home. Well, I’ve been home, for a while. Watching season 3 of Remington Steele, which was on sale at Target when I wandered by. It was cheaper than anything I’ve seen on the net, so I snapped it up.
I’ve had a miscellaneous dinner of a couple of rolls, some olives and cornichons and some cheese. I’m about to embark on sorting through some junk mail and other paper. And it’s possible a little laundry, or at least laundry-folding will be done.
Gnocchi in a basil parmesan sauce, with a salad, for dinner. I bought it at Safeway, so it was meh. Too leaden and gluey.
I received my sample ballot for the special run-off election for city council in March. I think I’ll do absentee ballot this time. I don’t see any point in driving somewhere to cast a vote in a city council election. Luckily, “my” guy is on the ballot, so I don’t have to research two new [del]twits[/del] upstanding members of the community.
I tried to watch the 2nd season of The L Word, but it’s too soap opera-y for me. I only made it 15 minutes into the first episode, and most of that was on fast forward. If it was a series of books, I’d devour them, but I really dislike watching stupid people, no matter how beautiful. I can read about them endlessly, though, so go figure.
Hi, all. I ended up having a long nap this afternoon, which was nice; one thing I’m noticing is that since I’m running out of one of my meds, the one that quiets down the overactive nerves in my bad foot, so am cutting back 1/3 of my regular daily dose, I’m waking up in the night every night with my foot just burning and miserable. It’s gone generic so I can’t get free samples, either; so I called around to every pharmacy in the area, and the cheapest was $140 for a month’s supply!!! So I’m stretching it out, but decided today to take the full dose and the heck with it, so slept like a baby this afternoon with my foot all quiet and happy, and the cat purring against my chin. So I think I’ll get the doc to write me a prescription for like 5 days’ worth of the med when I see her Wednesday, plus a regular full prescription after that; a decent night’s sleep is definitely worth a little extra $$ out of pocket.
Papa Tigs and palebunny took the Idiots to the Bestest Place Ever, which was great fun but the water was SO cold that after a while they started shivering, so they had to get toweled really well. Not that they noticed, mind you, but the humans did. It was definitely Retriever Day at the dog beach; and once again, Rusty shocked us all by successfully asserting dominance over a much larger female who decided to challenge him. I guess one female lab is a piece of cake to dominate after two 150-lb Rottweilers, which was his first (and best) beach dominance effort, when he stole their toy and they let him. Stupid dog! Fortunately, all the humans who take the serious swimmers down there understand dog behavior enough to keep an eye on things but not get worried, or just plain laugh at the dumb dogs, so it’s not been a problem to date. And, I mean, who could look at this fuzzy Velcro idiot dog and think he’s aggressive? They are now sacked out back-to-back right behind me like a pair of barely-breathing lumps.
Jahdra, I got that Scarf Style book and am insanely in love with several of them. I’ve decided I’m going to make myself the Garter Stitch Wrap as a project to work on while I’m recuperating from my surgery; I will not, however, be using the yarn they made the sample with, since that costs several hundred dollars! Of course, I also want to make the Lady Eleanor Entrelac Stole, but I’ll have to save my pennies for the yarn – that one needs the Noro Silk Garden, and it is definitely a trifle pricy in that quantity. But worth it! Plus I’m not sure I want to be knitting an entrelac pattern while I’m under the effects of heavy medication. A simple garter stitch I can do without worries!
I’m babbling. Time to go do something like knit to quiet my babbling brain down.
Mama Tigs, that sounds like excellent knitting while heavily medicated. What yarn/color are you going to use? Habu Textiles makes interesting yarn, but it’s definitely pricy. Mohair makes me itch, anyway, and if there’s too much, break out in welts. Lady Eleanor is on my to-do list. I plan on buying yarn for it at Stitches West next month. Something pretty and stripey, but not too soft. I’ve seen a Lady Eleanor made out of Patons Soy Silk. It’s very soft, with beautiful colors, but pills. Noro Silk Garden is probably perfect for the job, it’s got that nice rustic look, but it’s not too harsh to wear next to the skin. I just ripped out what felt like acres of yarn for an end-to-end scarf, since my tension was inconsistent. Maybe I should re-think the scarf. I’m determined to finish it this weekend.
