My greatest influence - an early MMP

I am home. Work went. Why are people not able to follow simple instructions, especially when I shout them 5 or 6 times?

I haven’t decided on a yarn for the wrap, Jahdra – I’m thinking something in a fairly light weight, since I don’t want to just be able to wear it in really cold weather. Maybe a nice light silk blend. Do you have any suggestions? You know a lot more about the nice yarns than I do. I’m also going to hit the really nice yarn store, which is having a sale Feb. 1-3, and see what they have to offer – good advice, if nothing else!

Awww, man, we have at least two more months of winter, and it’s safe to say that we’ll be getting whomped on a fairly regular basis during that time. ::looks out at frozen bulb beds with great longing to see flowers::

It’s good, huh? I am very partial to this for my toddies. So, do I get any points because my #1 daughter’s daddy was an ice hockey player in high school? Skating, both ice and roller, was a big thing when I was younger. Here we have (obviously, I suppose) an outdoor rink. A lot of people like to skate and snow machine/4 wheeler etc. on the lakes, but I prefer that my kids don’t do that. We lost a dentist a few years ago when his wheeler went through the ice and he drowned. I also know a guy who drove his wife’s brand new pickup truck onto the ice where it broke through and sank. No one was hurt that time…well, at least not at the lake! I know what you mean SCL, skating is difficult enough, to then add speed, fancy footwork, sticks, a little puck and some competition…it’s not for the weak hearted! btw, how is poor Conner’s mouth?

Mama Tigs what med are you on for rls? Mine has been acting up a lot, and the med I was on was $300.00+ for a months supply, which I quit taking a long time ago. Maybe yours is something I can run past my doc, if it works with the rest of my meds it might be worth a try.

Today has been busy, Jeff came by and (finally) installed the ceiling fan. It certainly moves the heat around the house, which would have been especially nice when we were having frigid weather. I got skiffman started on a big project - Operation Organize That Pile of Crap, and made up a menu for next week. #3 made one trip to the grocery store, and came home with four roasting chickens instead of cornish game hens (and I blame db for putting that idea in my head to begin with, I haven’t made game hens in years, but I remember how yummy they are!) and instead of pork center cut loin chops she brought home an entire pork loin. :stuck_out_tongue: These are learning trips for her. So I rewrote the list and sent her dad with her back up to the store for the missing items, plus a couple of other items which crossed my mind. I am all pumped up to have a menu prepared and being able to get dinner on the table by 5:00 with no running to the store for missing ingredients to slow me down. That was my organizational job for today. I am making up a baking ingredients list for them to fetch for me tomorrow, and then I will be happy to bake for them. It drives me crazy when I try to prepare something and someone has consumed a major ingredient as a snack. (skiffman is very guilty of this, no, a package of chocolate chips is not a snack! lol!)

Time Warp

So they came home, and after the groceries were put away they announced they were hungry, so I whipped up a tuna cassarole. The Son is now home from his girlfriend’s birthday party, and all is now calm. I think I’m gonna get comfy and watch Law and Order.

'night all!

Tigs, I would swatch first, in different yarn weights: lace, fingering, and DK, big swatches, 8x8 at least, to see what you like best. 3000 yards of anything is a lot of yarn. Voice of experience: You do *not * want to end up with 3000 yards of something expensive that you hate/can’t work with/can’t return because it was on sale. I have 2000 yards of worsted wool in **Peruvian Pink ** that I acquired that way. It’s lovely, but I can’t use it in the project it was intended for and have no idea what do with it. Luckily, it was already moth-proofed, so it can wait its turn for a long, long time.

Poking around online, it appears that, in spite of the awful photography that makes it resemble a surplus Army blanket, it’s actually a light, lacy wrap. And, it doesn’t look like anyone has actually made it, so you’ll definitely have to post pictures of your progress. Knit Picks is selling a kit for it using DK, which is likely heavier than you want, but is probably the lowest price you’ll find for natural fiber. So I think you should definitely swatch to find the weight that you want, and then block and maul the swatches to see how well it holds up. You don’t want to spend all that time on something that’s going to disintegrate or get matted or pill or otherwise unwearable within a month or so of completion.

Heeheehee!

Today was hockey for the first time in weeks. Tailgate started at 4 with chili and hotdogs, side dishes and desserts…and hot chocolate with coconut rum. Then on to the game, which we won 6-3, accompanied with coconut rum and pineapple juice. Then to the jersey auction, where I didn’t bid but some friends of mine did, accompanied with mini bottles of Bailey’s. Then - something I have not done in 11 years of being a fan of this team - on to a bar. (DO NOT let someone younger than you are pick you up for a game). I am TOASTED! Shots of Patrone (sp?) tequila - smmmmmmmmooooooooooooth- and too many things said that will become jokes and players actually buying me a shot of tequila and finding out that I am appreciated - these guys actually know who I am. And that the three players (including Connor, the player I sponsor) found a homeless white kitty on their porch and adopted the SnowFox.

Did I mention we won? And that the honorable SCL is drunk? Our Coach was giving me - not the evil eye - but kinda looking at me strange because he’s never seen me in a bar before.

I hope my reputation isn’t ruined.

Heeheehee.

You have to have one before it can be ruined.

Stoooopid dog has kept me up all night. I’m about to get my clue X 4 and teach him to play dead.

My “Oh shit” yesterday was a doozy. I’ve been itching for a long time to tear down my pumphouse, considering the pump is shot and we have county water anyway. I spent 2 hours cleaning it of junk when I realized I could pull the pump itself with little effort.

The is one big line going in and 3 coming out of the tank through a common fitting. One of those lines is broken off… Cool, I thought. The system is dead; I can simply cut the remaining 2 and the well hose, and haul this POS to the dump. So I cut the middle line, and water goes everywhere, UNDER PRESSURE.

The pump was still connected to the house water system. :smack: I shut off the water at the meter, hauled my butt to the hardware store, and bought the last line plug they had. I put it in with glue, a hammer, and a clamp just to make sure it went nowhere.

The good news from this I have a connection to the house water for my garden with a small investment in plumbing hardware.

Good morning. I am up and caffenating. I’m off to chuch in a little while, and then flip some flapjacks for myKnights of Columbus council.

SCL, I guess the coach never saw a hockey mom drink half his team under the table.

Look at it like this Bobbio, you have outside water now. Whee… Ok, that’s as good as I can do this early on a Sunday morning.

I’m up and caffienating. I woke up to pee and thing went sproing I’m wide awake, so no going back to bed.

I had some excellent lasagna last night. The woman can cook some good lasagna. Oh and a layered salad. I lurves me some layered salad. Then we had homemade brownies with ice cream and chocolate syrup for dessert. Plus beerverages. Twas a nice evening. One of their poodles (the have either three or twelve, I’ve never been quite sure), Jasmine, decided I was her bestest friend last night. I literally held her (except when eating) the whole time I was there. I do give exceptionally good ear skritches, after all.

Think I’ll go get the paper out of the box and peruse the excitement that is The Albany Herald (motto: proofreading is for wusses) and caffienate some more.

'Morning, swampy --I am up and off to work. Horrible night last night-awful, strange nightmarish dreams. Funny thing is–I’ve been sleeping really well the past week and loving it. <sigh>
You all have nice Sundays. See you in the next MMP.

I didn’t know you were KofC! My dad was a member for eons - helped to found a council and everything: PKG, State Advocate, State Treasurer, 4th Degree, and probably more I’ve forgotten. He and mom were always going to dances and stuff. He had a Knights Honor Guard at his funeral, and after, Mom donated his hat and cape to the coucil for those who couldn’t afford them. But his sword went to my nephew. Hope the brat appreciates it…

Anyway, it’s another dreary day with threats of rain or snow but no appreciable accumulation. I’ll be making a grocery store run because Food Lion has Coke products on sale - 4-12 packs for $11. And other than laundry and cooking, this’ll be a meh day. Oh yeah, gotta water the houseplants, too.

Tomorrow morning, I go to the doctor for my annual poke-n-prod and lab work to make sure my meds are doing what they’re s’posed to be doing. So I don’t expect to get to work before 10 - damn the luck! Unfortunately, my Dr is 40 minutes east and work is half an hour west, relative to my house. I’ll be doing lots of extra driving tomorrow.

Three more years till retirement…

Last night’s party was fun, although we spent most of the night sitting in the bar talking about all sorts of stuff. The hotel we stayed at was obviously into irony in a big way - most of our friends reckon 'im indoors and I are the “couple least likely ever to wed”, so the hotel gave us the bridal suite…actually it was rather nice because we had a big 4-poster bed and stuff. No champagne in the fridge though.

Partying was a laugh, we had one of the function rooms for our group and a DJ provided by the hotel. We didn’t stay there very long though, he played a couple of 60’s medleys and then decided to put on something for the “headbangers” - that turned out to be Bon Jovi, not exactly what I’d call headbanger’s music but it was ok. He followed up by playing “Black Night” which was probably the top tune of the night, except he said it was by Black Sabbath. Err…I think Deep Purple would have something to say about that!

Anyway, we decamped to the bar outside because one of our friends has tinnitus and wasn’t really enjoying the volume of the music. Out there we finished up talking (and having the occasional drink) until 3am when the bar closed and we opted for bed. We honestly fully intended to make it for breakfast this time, but we woke up fifteen minutes before check-out time! A hasty exit, and home. Then 'im indoors decided breakfast was very necessary and cooked it all by himself. What a trooper!

Since then, I’ve done two loads of laundry and attempted to wash part of a king-size duvet. The reason? Shadow was so jealous of us being dirty stopouts, he decided to wee on the bed. Lovely. So now I have a very smelly duvet that’s too big to fit into the washing machine and I don’t have time to get it to the launderette. Bother! I’ve also washed the dishes, cleaned the cooker, done grocery shopping, phoned my doting parent and now I’m having a break before I tackle the ironing.

Studying? Errrr…rigs, you couldn’t do mine for you while you’re about it, could you? I’m sure swampy won’t notice it’s not me doing the work…

I’ll catch up later on, I’m just driving by to say that mmm-mmm, this bacon sure does smell good cooking!

Morning, all. I think. I finally slept well last night, and was the last creature to get up this morning, but not by much – the dogs only beat me by about 3 minutes. Apparently they were very, very tired from yesterday. Judging by their deeply comatose states when I went to bed, I believe it.

It’s Neurontin, otherwise known generically as gabapentin. Why the price didn’t go down when it went generic is a mystery to me. When the doc started me on it, the only real side effect was listed as a “feeling of well-being,” which was lovely but, alas, only lasted a few days. But man, does it quiet down my traumatized nerves in my foot!

Excellent suggestion, Jahdra! I suspected the wrap is light and lacy, but the photography in that book is definitely it’s least desirable feature. Why couldn’t they at least include clear photos of the actual projects, since that’s what people would want to see? Anyway, I’m looking at using a very light yarn, so I’ll go talk to the nice ladies at the Yarn Garden this week and see what they suggest. If they don’t know what pills or disintegrates, nobody does! And that is some Peruvian Pink yarn there, I must say – have you figured out anything to do with it yet?

Oopsie, Bobbio!

I don’t know what today’s plans are, beyond caffeinating further. I suppose I should get a bit of transcription done, but I’m feeling seriously unmotivated. Oh well, there’s lots of time yet to decide.

Yeah, rigs, while you’re at it could you do my reading as well? bats eyelashes

Okay, today I am doing some serious work. Yesterday after ice skating I went to a pants party thrown by one of my friends, where everyone had to wear interesting pants. I went to a vintage clothing store and found some skanky jeans that had lacings up the thigh. Big hit.

Lazy lazy day here. We made a quick run into Leonardtown so I could get the Coke products on sale, then to the hardware store for about $3 worth of miscellanea, and finally to pick up my meds at CVS. When we came home, I prepped a turkey and tossed it into the oven, then we had lunch - I had the leftover meatballs and I made some chicken livers for FCD. Since then, apart from a couple of runs downstairs to deal with laundry, I ain’t done nothing.

And if feels soooooo good.

Ah, yeah!

Today I swam for 12 hours straight. I feel like my body has died but forgot to tell my brain. I can’t move to cook so I am just going to finish off the rest of this glucose gel.

Why, exeter? Why?

We just ran out and picked up a 6-foot cat tree from a freecycler. The cat is fascinated; at the rate she started sniffing the base, it may take her all day to make it up to the top level! It’s homemade, but really well done – five different levels, hanging stuff for her to bat at, fits perfectly between her fleecy window seat and the top of the dresser where we keep her food (the dogs, natch, think cat food is much tastier than dog food!). Definitely a successful find.

There’s snowflakes falling, but it’s too warm for them to stick. So far. It’s cooling down as the day progresses, so Papa Tigs is understandably hoping it stops before it gets much colder. It’s not supposed to, though, so here’s hoping he doesn’t have a nasty drive in the morning.

Other than that, I got nuthin’.

Happy Sunday, all. I’ve spent the morning preparing my taxes, COBRA payments and other miscellaneous paperwork. I have scads of mail to go out tomorrow. I’m working diligently on my scarf, must be done in time for lunch tomorrow. Then I can start on my Stitches West homework AKA lots of knitting. I’ve heard stories about people who don’t do their homework slowing or delaying the class, and I don’t want to be one of Those People.

chickie, why did you swim for 12 hours straight? I should think anyone would be exhausted after such a feat.

Tigs, I’ve heard good things about the Yarn Garden. No, I haven’t decided what to do with the Peruvian Pink. It was supposed to be a shawl, but it’s too heavy for that. It was also supposed to be cotton. Maybe I’ll make a sweater out of it someday. I have an entire 60 gallon container full of hot pink yarn of various types, so I could make a gigantic log cabin coverlet out of them. But I keep getting distracted, ooh, shiny!

chickie we must know why you swam for twelve straight hours. You know you cannot make a statement like that without all the details! It’s a MMP rule.

Haze, BooFae and Rigs, young ladies, you will each do your own homework. There’ll be no trading or else you’ll get no dessert for a week! Do I make myself clear? Now get busy doing your own work all three of you! I need nerve tonic! I’ll never be able to make it through this without it.

Oh, and I’ll have the MMP ready bright and early tomorrow.

Snowin’ south of **MamaTigs ** also, after a morning of rain. But even if it gets slippery overnight, the counties down here do a great job of salting and sanding the roads. I don’'t need to leave early tomorrow - I have a dr/lab appointment at 8:15, which means no food or drink after midnight. So by the time my appointment comes around, I expect to have a screaming hunger headache.

The house smells turkey-rriffic and if it gets done in time, it’ll be dinner. If not, well, who knows what I’ll whip up. Last load of laundry is in the dryer. All in all, a good lazy day.

And another vote for 12 hours of swimming?!?!?!? What’s the story?
