My Karma-O-Meter Just Exploded

So, there actually was a PS3 in the box, right?

(I’m sorry. I’m imagining you opening the PS3 box to discover a nice hand-knitted doily or something.)

Definitely it’s time to go out and mow someone’s lawn or something.

I would say its almost a certainty that she had it on hand already, and may have even been looking for someone to give it to. I know that a lot of Dads like to play video games (including me), but it would still be a rather odd gift for an elderly lady to buy for someone who is older than a teenager.

It really seems to have worked out very well, though.

That’s terrific! Keep it and enjoy it, that’s what she wanted.

My family has talked about doing stuff like this when we win the lottery. (Note to self: Gotta start buying lottery tickets soon!)

Y’know, handing out twenties to people who return their carts in the grocery parking lot. Having cool gifts handy for someone we see doing something nice.

Just random rewards for good behavior.

It would be a blast, wunnit?

Just to clear up something that it seems there is some confusion about – there’s nothing to indicate that the elderly couple and the woman who asked for my name knew each other at all. I don’t even think the couple knew that the woman asked for my name. After I got them their milk, they thanked me and went to a neighboring (shorter) line.

As for accepting it or not, well…I’d like to report that the Sicilian village of Adanti is almost (but not completely) free of those damn Nazi bastards.

Pretty cool. Pretty cool of you, then pretty cool of her. What a fun little story.

Cool, drive those bastards all the way out of Italy.

I’m glad you kept it.

Good for you. Kick some Nazi ass. I can’t think of a better way to pay back Karma than kicking Nazi ass.

Given the lack of any corroborating information on the gift, it can’t be safely concluded that the arrival of the box is in fact connected to your grocery store samaritanism. Maybe the game should more properly belong to your wife, for something she did, but doesn’t remember. Maybe you shouldn’t be playing it at all, until you get her permission.

Man, just the other week I bagged and loaded a woman’s groceries. All I got was a thank-you! Of course, I already have a PS3. Must’ve paid myself forward or something…

Maybe she won the lottery at some point, has more money than Og, and just likes to do stuff like that. I’d probably do the same thing. It’d be fun.

Come on brother, did your wife buy the excuse?

I say you keep it. This was your tangible - and apparently much appreciated - award for doing something kind. While giving it to an orphanarium or something is a nice thought - well, if you feel like passing it on, why not do it in three months or half a year? By that time you’ll have more games and it’s jigged and updated and all that.

You know, my husband really did pull a toddler out of traffic last week. I’m 100% serious.

For his efforts he got, “Daddy, you’re a hero!” from our 3-1/2 year-old.

I do think that’s just about on par with your reward.

Maybe the woman won it in a raffle or something, and had no idea what to do with it and then saw your generosity and thought, “That is what I can do with it!”

In any case, it was extremely generous of her - I hope she too gets good Karma from this and if you do decide to keep it (why not?), enjoy it! But if you ever get a newer version or whatever, most certainly donate it to some kid you see who looks like he could also use a little surprise joy in his/her life.

One ordinary day, with Playstations?

Well that’s awfully nice of you, driving all of those Nazis out of Ada–, say, you’re not just angling for another Karma-Treat are you?

I think you should hunt them down and give them the baby possum.

Kidding!

How seriously cool.

That is incredibly kind of you, Vunderbob. Must be a hellova neighbor!

Who cares how the woman came into possession of the stuff? Seriously, the woman saw a good deed and reciprocated. Honestly, I just think it’s way cool no matter the how or why behind it. And I think it’s awesome that you were rewarded for your kindness, Hal

Hal, that actually made me cry, it was so cool. I think you should do something like that for someone in the future, so that it keeps going.

We do that kind of thing at a couple of coffee places around here- at the drive-through, I pay for my own order and whatever the person behind me is having. Hopefully, they “pass it on.” My friend who started me on this kick said that at her coffee place in Stanton, CA, one of the gals working there said that one morning, it lasted for over 20 cars!

Something has been published about this practice recently, but we were doing it before that (and they didn’t write about us! :frowning:  ).

Nice going, friend. Well done indeed.

Hal, you did a nice thing because that’s how you are. Maybe the lady had one of those days where all she saw around were acts ass-hattery and you just opened her eyes. None of us do those small nice things expecting a reward or gift, but when they come, be thankful and enjoy it.

Side note: Two weeks after I graduated high school, I ran into one of my math teachers at the mall parking lot with a flat tire. I put her spare on and offered to take the tire to get repaired, then run by her place and put the repaired tire back on. When I got done, she invited me in and we had lemonade sitting on her back porch.
Then she offered to thank me in another way.

What? Stop looking at me like that, I was 18 and she was a 29 year old babe, I guarantee you’d have done the same thing.
