"My Name is Earl" season premiere, 9-21-06

Since I missed it, would someone please post a spoilered recap?

This was me. 20 minutes later I’d think of it and start cackling again.

I’m cackling right now. Hee!

That and Earl doing the English accent, the one that Joy tells him makes him sound like a gay Kermit the Frog. Holy mother of pearl, that was hilarious!

Good call; it would be a tough one to recap.

Really quickly–omitting jokes and sticking to plot: [spoiler]Earl’s list item is: Never took Joy’s side on anything. So this time, he feels obliged to be supportive of her. This first takes the form of supporting her wish for a surprise birthday party (which she’s bullying Darnell to give her). But Darnell takes the “surprise” part literally by throwing the party a month in advance. Joy is not pleased.

But that’s primarily because she’s distracted with a bigger problem: Having seen a giant entertainment center that Brittany & Kevin own, she saves money to buy it herself, only to discover it’s too big for their trailer home, so she tries to return it, only to discover they won’t take it back because she used the receipt for her gum, which eliminated the product code essential for its return.

She tries to use the entertainment center outside, but one night of rain ruins it, so she deposits it at the store (kind of a K-mart place) and swears that one way or the other, she’s getting her $3000 back. Upon exiting the store, she sees a delivery truck being unloaded, so she hijacks it and hides it in the woods.

This is where she enlists Earl’s help, who goes along to be supportive. She wants to sell the truck, but he thinks whatever’s inside is probably easier to sell. However, there’s something they didn’t expect–a store employee has been trapped in the back of the truck for days, living off of junk food. Their attempt to let him “escape” without being seen by him goes badly, so they need to take him to the hospital.

En route, the truck runs out of gas, so Earl walks a few miles to a gas station, only to return to discover Joy chasing (and finally tackling) the near-naked hostage, who escaped when her impatience compelled her to look for food in the back of the truck. With Randy’s help, they try to restore order, but Randy accidentally puts the employee “back in the truck”–in the driver’s seat, so the hostage drives off.

In mad pursuit, the threesome try to catch the truck, when Earl has his epiphany–the best way to actually help Joy is to let the guy go, since memories of his own criminal past remind him that none of this will end well. Joy is not pleased, particularly when the employee recognizes his abductor, and she’s arrested and booked (presumably, to serve a long stint in jail).

This, recap, of course, doesn’t include an assortment of Randy’s skills we learn about–from his graffiti art to his toe flexibility to his memory of Wizard of Oz tunes.

Very good, ArchiveGuy!

Thanks!

I noticed that too. Earl looked like he was seeing her in a new way. Scary.

My husband, ever-thoughtful, didn’t think Randy should ruin his fabulous graffitti–why not just change the R to a C? Problem solved. Thankfully, mr.stretch didn’t turn to a life of crime.

Pretty damn funny, esp. Randy’s surprising dexterity doing a “monkey grab” of a chip… but being dissuaded from trying to dip it in salsa, too. And Earl reminding their hostage, apropos of nothing, that “What you call soccer, we call football.” LOL

Coming this fall to NBC: “REALLY Super Friends: Robin Hood, Superman and Jesus Christ.”

Earl’s off to a great start. All hail Earl!

Batman, I mean. :smack:

Next time I’ll be better prepared…

if you are so enclined, there are copies already floating on the internet if you missed it. ALL OVER

Early in the episode, she was seen spray-painting “JUICY” across the butt of track pants. Ergo, I believe she was “bootleggin” Juicy Couture track suits. Probably selling them at the flea market.

:smack: I had no idea that’s what was going on. “Juicy Couture”? Never heard of it.

OK, finally got to see it. I am in the minority here, but I thought it was a decidedly week first episode. And I agree with whoever said there needs to be much more Catalina!

Ooh ooh!!! Please please pleeeeaaaassseee send me a copy. I’d be more than happy to compensate you for any expenses occurred. My email is in my profile.

My darn SO recorded Grey’s Anatomy (which I already had taping in the other room) instead of Earl (which I had asked him to tape).

DoperChic - I’ll check when I get home - I might have deleted it when I didn’t get any takers besides labtrash. If I still have it I’ll be glad to send you a copy.

You mean “Batman.” Who would have handled the problem much better than Earl, as he’d have been prepared.

DoperChic - You should have mail - just let me know where to mail your DVD.
