Truck is loaded for a trip to the dump. Phase 1 of painting is done. Taz will be glad to be let out.
UPDATE: out cold for three additional hours. I was tired, but definitely not sick or anything - just a bit worn out.
Now, I am definitely no longer that!
I saw that! LOL since “casserole” and “lasagna” are rather suspiciously similar … echoing @nightshadea who asked if the Very Big Zucchini was bitter at all, as we have often heard they can be with increased size.
It was not bitter.
Good morning all. I just spent 45 minutes writing a long post to each and every one of you and then hit the wrong button and it all went away. Every bit of it and darn, it was clever and witty.
Please take my bleary-eyed word for it. I’ll try again later. Coffee, need more coffee:coffee:. Must get my clever, cheerful level up to Mumper standards.
BBBoo - when I plan to make a long post, I’ll try to write it in Word, then copy and paste, just to prevent my wit and wisdom from being lost. Of course, if you use the quote function, that may add some steps. But that’s life, ain’t it?
Painters are packing up. They got a lot done this morning. Tomorrow, they plan to finish both smaller bedrooms as well as the required carpentry work. Yay!!
It sure is FCMooooooom, especially with me and computers. Word, copy and paste is rocket science to me but I’ll see if my roomie who is two generations younger can teach me how. Took me years to learn more then email (but, hey, look at me now!).
Perhaps on Moandays I should just say ‘hi’ and hold the fancy stuff til Tuesday. Or I could just lie to my iPad and tell her it was Tuesday.
Going to go have a bowl of shredded wheat mini bites and see if that improves my level of functioning any.
BBBoo
I like cake. I really like fruitcake, especially Collins Street Bakery fruitcake and Harry and David’s Fruit confection which is fruit and nuts held held together with a bit of batter. I was watching QVC yesterday. It was holiday fuds and they showed a 3 layer vanilla cake. One layer was dyed red, one green, and the middle au natural. It was decorated with green, red, and white sprinkles. It was EIGHTY FOUR DOLLARS. For a cake. Almost a hunnert bucks.
Yesterday I broke my 18 days without candy streak and ate half a Reese peanut butter cup. I threw away the other half.
I’m partial to good carrot cake with cream cheese icing. Give me lots of cream cheese icing and keep your pineapple out of my carrot cake. I have a recipe I clipped out of a magazine years ago which makes a pretty dense cake but damn, it’s good. I’ve probably made it 100 times. Hmmmm, I have carrots, cream cheese and all of the other ingredients on hand …
Here’s some pie for those who don’t want cake: Just save me some apple pie!
If we want to discuss non-pie/cake desserts, give me chocolate anything or occasionally some Jello-pretzel salad (we’re back to cream cheese here).
Still haven’t been able to log on for work. This is bonkers. I was told I should hear back within the hour, but that was about three hours ago.
So I’m kind of just working from memory where and when I can. Given the above discussion about cake and the fact that I can’t do much of anything at this point, I might see what happens when I mix chocolate cake mix with pumpkin pie filling. Just for kicks, of course. Not because I’m ready to eat a whole cake alone. Nope.
Here you go:
That looks amazing! Now I know what I’m doing today - taking over the world with pumpkin.
Well, I spent an interesting weekend - in the hospital.
The daughter unit had left some Pure Protein Bars at our place and I ate one. I’ve mentioned here that I have a newly developed allergy to milk. Well, I should have read the ingredients list, that thing was packed with different kinds of milk products. My mouth swelled up, then my throat. Then I started having trouble breathing. I took an allergy tablet (diphenhydromine) which did nothing.
We decided to head to the nearest medical facility, 45 minutes away in The Dalles. I started itching like crazy, and about 10 minutes from the hospital I went into anaphylactic shock. By the time we got to the hospital I couldn’t get out of the car. They had to bring a gurney out to collect me.
They gave me another 50 mg of dyphenhydromine and the contents of an epi-pen to get me stable again. If I had been in shock much longer I could have died.
Anyway, they kept me over night and let me go Sunday afternoon, with a warning. The heart monitor they had stuck to me showed that I had an incident of ventricular tachycardia. My pulse rate was all over the place last night, but it’s settling down now. I theorize that it was the result of the epinephrine and me not getting my usual heart meds for 24 hours.
I hate foodstuffs that claim to be healthy for you and are secretly stuffed full of poisons like milk and maltitol.
On the other hand, I love good fruitcake.
So, how was your weekend?
In other news, most of the fires here in Orygun are under control and things are looking up. It’s still dreary and very, very smokey but it’s supposed to rain west of the Cascades tonight and much of the rest of the week, so that will help, them. Maybe we’ll get some Easterly winds here on the east side to push some of our smoke over there to get rained on too.
As soon as we get our basement floor poured this week and we can move some of the junk we have sitting all over our back yard back into the basement we have to go back West anyway. I have a dental appointment and Wifey has something and the pups need haircuts and the house there needs attention. It never ends.
Y’all have a good week now. Ya’hear?
Much better than yours! Wowza, close call. Soooo glad you’re ok.
Did you get the talk that now it is even more important to avoid even the slightest allergic trigger? Once you’ve a bad reaction subsequent ones could easily be worse and it already doesn’t get much worse than what happened. Going to carry an epi-pen now? I know they’re expensive but…
And watch out eating things other people make for you. If it doesn’t happen to them they often don’t get it. They mean well but “just a little can’t hurt” or “I didn’t know X had dairy in it”. Happens to my Celiac kid all the time. Something cooked in the wrong pan can have her in agony for days.
Very, very glad you are here to tell the tale.
A relieved from afar Boo
Bumba, please don’t do things like that. Just… don’t. Thanks.
Everyone else, I’ve read, but not retained; irk is taking up all available brainpower. I hope things settle down a bit soon. It’s odd, everything I’m doing there is fine, not especially difficult, and the students are pretty much all great (if frustrating, on occasion), but somehow it all just adds up to AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh.
Bumba; glad you didn’t die…it would really make the week a downer in the MMP…
Seriously, I am happy you’re OK and please, please watch the ingredients from now on, we’d kinda like to keep you around here…
Since we can’t seem to leave cakes alone, last one I had was years ago at PF Chang’s of all places, since I don’t care for Chinese food all that much, I just asked for it…big slice with about 11 layers to it, felt quite full when I had finished.
BBBoo, been there, deleted that. Should do what FCM suggests, but…
Sari, will be interesting how Echo reacts to the…procedure. Do you pick her up tomorrow? And I like the paint, my bathroom is a bit deeper green from Sherwin Williams but it should look good.
Sent the appointment times for team pictures to my parents for Saturday, now all we need is for the weather to continue cooperating. All y’all take care now.
Well jeez Bumba sorry you had to go through all that!
I had a productive morni-- uh, early afternoon, after sleeping like a little dead thing. Floor is swept, heavy groceries put away, dishes are clean, and I have a lil’ poke chop prepped for lunch. It shall be smothered with onions, because I lurves me some onion, and thus have decreed that it shall be so.
Dinner shall be black beans, because I finally procured dried beans after being unable to find anything besides lentils. Y’all don’t eat little red beans up north or sumpin’?
If I keep up this productive streak, I’ve got two pumpkins (part of the aforementioned “heavy groceries”) to cut up, so I can roast the seeds. Roasted pumpkin seeds are the BEST part about autumn, which is mostly my favorite season anyway.
If I get really productive, I have a new curtain rod to hang up. Real-life window treatment in the MMP! It’s a double rod, so I can hang both the short but densely light-blocking one (which fits above Coolio the Window Unit) AND the longer, and prettier curtain that will likely be an important draft blocker in winter.
Finally, in return for inspiring so many of y’all to eat a sweet potato, now all y’all inspired ME to get a box of yellow cake mix, and a can of frosting. (While I can make a cake from scratch, the thought of all the extra washing up makes my heart heavy.) I have cupcake liners somewhere, so cup-cakes it shall be!
Yup. I am now the proud owner of two epi-pens, plus a trainer pen. It was a package deal. The very nice and amazingly cheerful lady at the Safeway Pharmacy hooked me up for $100. Medicare paid the rest (over $500). (I will never vote republican again.)
I usually do read the ingredients list, even though it sometimes requires reading glasses and a magnifying glass, but sometimes I forget. I’m not perfect ya’know. I shall certainly try not to die in the future. When I think about all the ways the universe has tried to kill me in the past, I’m amazed I’m still around.
Welp, back to whatever it was I was doing.
Scary stuff Bumba.
I’m glad you’re okay.
I had similar, but no where near as bad, when I ate some peanut butter. I’d been eating it all my life, not anymore.
I have a friend in Oregon that I am pretty sure had to leave. I missed her call and now can’t get through to her. I’m sure she is okay, but I don’t know about her house, or her rabbits and chickens. My dogs’ breeder is in Oregon. Also in a bad area. I sent her an email but haven’t heard back.
I’ll be going to get Echo shortly. She came through the surgery fine. Dogs don’t spend the night anymore MetalMouse. She was ready to be picked up a while ago, but since I can’t get Ripple from daycare until 4, I’ll wait until then to get Echo.
The procedure cost less than the estimate, so not too bad. I had to go get her a collar so she doesn’t have to wear a cone, but then I saw she has to have a regular collar to attach to the blowup collar. She doesn’t have a collar, and collars don’t work so well on shar pei. We’ll see how she does, she may not bother her stitches at all. The daycare sells regular collars, but I can’t go in to try them on.
I thought about going with a deeper green, but I think lighter is better.
I’ll be glad to get the brats home, then I can relax a few minutes before logging in to irk.
I didn’t know what an MMP is. So I googled:
MMP is the latest (fifth) generation land combat missile system designed for dismounted infantry as well as for integration on combat vehicles.
That sounds about right, a combat missile system used by the magical morning pixies 🧚♂️
