Ever since I handled one at Gander Mountain, I’ve been lusting after a double barrel “coach” shotgun (so called because it was the short-barreled, easy-to-handle weapon usually used to protect stagecoaches, from the “shotgun” seat). Can’t think of one thing I’d do with it, but it was lovely to hold, and it’d be a blast to shoot some water-filled jugs with it.

Coach guns are great fun, and mine was worth every cent I spent on it. I use it for hunting rabbits and foxes in bushland, and it performs admirably. It’s also a lot of fun to fire.

As for silly things that I don’t really need but last after anyway?

The two that spring to mind are a Candlestick Telephone for my study, and a Russian Mil-HiND helicopter. I have slightly more chance of obtaining the Candlestick Telephone.

I also want a paper cutter like we had in school. You know, the kind with the thick wooden base and the long cutting arm. They’re much superior to the kind they have today with the little cutting wheel. You can get a long, straight cut with the old-fashioned kind, whereas with the new kind, the paper can all too easily skew around just a bit as you’re cutting, no matter how hard you press on the holding bar. I’ve found the old-fashion kind at Staples for 50 to 70 bucks, depending on the size. They have heavy plastic bases, which aren’t as esthetically pleasing, but I’d settle for one in a pinch, should I have the money and the weakness of will to actually go for it.

Ah, I have one of those. Except mine’s a 1955 DeSoto Firedome. All it needs is engine and transmission work, a rear end, brakes, tires, wheels, exhaust, new wiring, upholstery and a few odds and ends. It was driveable for a while, but everything was on the verge of failure when I put it in the garage. Fun car to parallel park: 4000 pounds, with manual steering and brakes. At least it’s got a hemi!
