I am getting a female cat on Saturday. She is siamese (at least, white with blue eyes), the runt of the litter, and about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.
I can’t think of a name for her, though, and I need your help! What are some of the best names for cats you’ve heard? Not necessarily the most original or strange, just a good, cute name for a cat.
I just put my cat to sleep yesterday. She was 17 years old. She was getting pretty feeble in her old age and we did not want her to suffer anymore. But, in her prime, she kicked butt and took names. She beat down every dog we’ve ever had and definitely outlived any of our pets. She wasn’t much of a fan of other cats either; she was extremely jealous of them and possessive of us. But she was a sweetie and I love her dearly. Her name was Miss Kitty. (My friend even named his cat after her). Mom mom named her after the lady in Gunsmoke. So for an ass-kickin’, uber-cool cat, name her Miss Kitty. (Plus, you’ll make me feel better for losing my most beloved cat).
My adored childhood cat (she lived to be 20!) was named Clementine (also known as Clementine Feline the Great). I would be hugely pleased if anyone were to give the name to their cat.
Well, since you’re in Reno, how about Chip? Or Ante? Or Creepy Old Lady Playing Slots? COLPS for short.
We recently got a cat, and after much deliberation, I named it Siddhartha Vicious since I enjoy studying buddhism, and have an affinity for the Sex Pistols. After a few days, Sid just didn’t seem to fit, so we changed it to Miranda (I’m a lawyer, and we live in AZ), and I adopted the name for myself.
I don’t think you can name an animal before you know his/her personality. Same with people. I never refer to my friends by their real names, I make up cute little nicknames for them.
When my son was about 16 years old he found a gray and white kitten alongside the road near Glacier Lodge at Big Pine, CA. He was into hot rods at the time so he named her Iskandarian which is the name of a specialty racing camshaft manufacturer. We called her Isky and she lived to be 20 years old. If your want your cat to be long lived you couldn’t find a better name.
Live with the kitten a while, the name will come to you. I took in three wild kittens last fall, eventually they got names that fit their personalities. Chester (just looked like a Chester), Twinkle Toes (aka Twinkie) and Sophie (the shy one). As I found out in time, they’re all girls… names all worked except for Chester, but she amswers to it and it still fits.
I agree with the find-out-her-personality-first view. One of my current cats (I’ve loved many ) was named “Smidget” when I got her at the age of six months. I could tell by looking at her tail that this was going to be a BIG cat, and she definitely didn’t have a ‘cute’ personality. So I renamed her Queenie, and it suits her very well indeed.
I have a blue-eyed Siamese mix, and her name is Noelle. Of course, I found her in December, in some holly bushes. So her name was almost Holly.
We had a Siamese-Persian mix, a really gorgeous goddess of a cat, and her name was Angel. Of course, Goddess is a good name. There is also Bast, the Egyptian cat goddess.
Of course you could also call her Lovey (think Gilligan’s Island), which would be especially funny if she has a prickly personality.
Diva is a good name for any female cat. Also Phoebe and Lola.
Pica (pronounced PEE-ka) is so cute and it means small, since she is a runt. My Mom adopted a runt and named her Pica, and I have fun with it, like Toe-Pica-Kansas and Pica Picante and Pica de gallo… she is an adorable kitty.
One more, and then I’ll shut up, I promise… I love the name Moon for a white kitty. It’s beautiful and mystical, just like kitties are.
